Fireworks Blaze in Beijing on Lantern Festival
For more news and videos visit ➡ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ http Add us on Facebook ➡ on.fb.me Amid the lively Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations, a large fire caused by fireworks destroyed a dormitory in Beijing on Monday night. Around 6 PM, sparks originating from fireworks were blown onto the roof of the building, igniting the blaze in west Beijing's Haidian District. The fire was put out about an hour later. No injuries were reported. Firefighters recently warned that it was dangerous to set off fireworks due to the dry and windy in Beijing over the past few days. Every year, numerous fires are ignited across China during the New Year celebrations by amateur fireworks displays. During the Lunar New Year, a firework ban is lifted in most urban areas across China for the 16 days between the Lunar New Year's Eve and the Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival, which was celebrated yesterday, marks the end of Lunar New Year. From: NTDTV Views: 31 1 ratings Time: 00:49 More in Entertainment

Cisco Innovators: JP Vasseur and The Internet of Things
JP Vasseur, Cisco Fellow, author and leader in the area of IP and the Internet of Things shares his thoughts on innovation and what it has allowed him to do. Full Transcript I'm JP Vasseur I'm a Cisco Fellow, I'm part of the Engineering organization and I'm in charge of different technologies, especially technologies related to the Internet of Things. Internet of Things Defined The Internet of Things is not about things connected to the internet, it's about reusing two decades of technologies we defined for the internet in order to connect small objects, such as sensors and actuators and enable new services. So the history of the Internet of Things is quite interesting. We've been talking about it for the past 10 years and up to 5 years ago it was very siloed, very proprietary. What changed the game dramatically was this the momentum, you know, in using, reusing actually internet technologies and standardizing protocols based on IPV-6 in order to have the building blocks and that's exactly where we are today. Passion Inspired Innovation The reason why I am so passionate about it is because when you think of what it means, connecting new objects, it really allows you to change our day to day life by enabling new services. That's going to change the way you drive your car, the way you save energy, the way you manage healthcare, and so on and so forth, and so the number of services is basically endless. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra: Wake up and bring in changes in U.P
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 04:40:58 02/06/12
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been campaigning for Congress in Inhauna (Tiloi assembly) in Amethi on 5th February 20012. While addressing an election rally she requested voters to exercise the right to vote cautiously and intelligently so as to bring in positive changes in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told “So you will have to think whether you require a Government which is concerned for you and committed to serve you with devotion or a Government which wastes crores of rupees to build big buildings, to construct palatial buildings and factories for the leaders, look after their own selfish interests and dragging you backward. The entire strength is in your hands… If you want to bring about changes then you will have to wake up..You did injustice with your region in the past 10 years..Had you elected a Congress MLA in last 10 years, there would have been much more development in UP with the help of at least with the MLA funds..”.

Lowrider - "Hold On": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Adelaide's iconic Lowrider are a testament to the fact that the most integral part of being a successful band is making good music. With no gimmicks, special effects or record label backing, this foursome managed to build a reputation as one of the country's most incredible bands without so much as an EP to their name. Two lauded albums and hundreds of live shows later, Lowrider are undoubtedly one of the most critically acclaimed acts to emerge from Australia over the past decade. With impossibly smooth, effortless vocals juxtaposed with an honest, gritty ensemble of beats, bass and keys, Lowrider create an immaculate fusion of soul, funk and contemporary pop music which truly transcends time. Lowrider are a collective, a real band and an indication that musicians still get in a room and jam even in the digital era. Forming around the middle of the past decade after meeting through Adelaide's tight knit music community, the foursome (comprising of brothers Paul and John Bartlett, Scott Duncan and Joe Braithwaite) organically created a distinct sound, drawing influence from the likes of icons Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield through to modern contemporaries John Legend, Portishead and Erykah Badu. Word began to spread and before long, Lowrider were selling out intimate shows across the country and moving thousands of units of their highly acclaimed debut EP from word of mouth alone. In 2008, they followed this up with one of the most lauded Australian ... From: sxsw Views: 101 1 ratings Time: 03:44 More in Entertainment

MAKU SoundSystem - "Canto Negro": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Individually and collectively, MAKU SoundSystem (MAKU) has been searching for a musical voice, experimenting in jazz, rock, hip-hop, and folklore. After a year of trying to build MAKU and delving into individual and cultural past, members simply came to accept themselves. MAKU is an immigrant experience, a life style, the musical expression of who and what already exists. MAKU was born between the years 2009 and 2010. Most of its band members are Colombian immigrants who live in New York City. MAKU is an extension of a strong movement of musicians in Colombia and the diaspora that are exploring the textures of traditional music, native instruments and fitting them into a diverse urban landscape. MAKU live presents an 8-musician ensemble in a show full of pure energy, digital imagery and explosive drumming taking the audience to far away gypsy lands, underground punk shows, and the Carribbean coast, "starting somewhere in the afro-colombian and ending in the jazz-punk stratosphere". In the short time span that MAKU has been together the band has independently produced two albums: Vamos Bien(2010) and MAKUMBALA (2011). . Vamos Bien(2010), MAKU's first album, fuses modern and traditional sounds and captures MAKU's original search and experimental core. Quickly following Vamos Bien (2010), MAKUMBALA (2011) was recorded over bleeding mics and rolling tapes and released on 7'' vinyl. More than just popular cumbia rhythms, MAKUMBALA(2011) keeps true to its cultural heritage with ... From: sxsw Views: 98 3 ratings Time: 09:00 More in Music

Century of Olympic Posters Gets London in Games Mood
For more news and videos visit ➡ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ http Add us on Facebook ➡ on.fb.me A rare collection of Olympic posters gathered over the past 100 years go on display in London. The posters promote sport and showcase the changes in art, politics and culture over the decades. An exhibit of Olympic posters over the past century opened in London's Canary Wharf on Monday showcasing how artistic trends and politics have changed over the last 100 years. Posters have been a prime means of communication for the modern Olympic Games, designed to herald the event and build up excitement for the sporting spectacle. They are a visual document of sport and art, politics and place. [Hamish McDougall, Spokesman, Canary Wharf Group]: "There are some really fascinating examples going back to the 1920's and 1930's of different political attitudes to diversity to nationalism, which speak a story about history." The exhibit is on display in Canary Wharf tower, the building where the London 2012 Olympic bid was put together. [Hamish McDougall, Spokesman, Canary Wharf Group]: Posters have been used throughout the history of the modern Games, interestingly they have employed some of the best pop artists over that time. Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, artists of this calibre are being used to produce these things and ideally they are telling a simple message but telling it in an artistic way and sometimes quite a subtle and sophisticated way." Educational games

Educational games - TEDxManhattanBeach - Sean Bouchard - Chocolate Covered Broccoli: Building Better Games Talk title: Chocolate Covered Broccoli: Building Better Games As many parents know, kids who struggle to engage with learning in the classroom can spend an extraordinary amount of time and energy playing video games. Over the past thirty years, the educational games industry has attempted to wrap educational content around games to make the content more palatable. The result have been unpromising, with games that are like eating "chocolate-covered broccoli." We've been assuming that games and educational content are two different things. To revolutionize education with games, we need to shake that assumption. All games are both fun and a learning experience because as you learn the game, you begin to win. Games can be a powerful tool for education when we create dynamic game systems that challenge kids, call them out, and personalize a subject to give it meaning for the individual student. Sean Bouchard is a game designer and developer. He's currently working with the University of Southern California's Game Innovation Lab on the Collegeology Games project, which seeks to produce a suite of digital and non-digital games which help to improve college access for under-served youth. Sean also works with the indie game studio Crater House on small-scale experimental games. He's also worked as a programmer at the Institute for Creative Technology, examining the therapeutic potential of virtual worlds. His focus is on narrative design and motivating social interaction.

Arkansas Woman, 73, Forced to Attempt Bank Robbery and Michelle Obama's Transition Stages as First Lady

Welcome to CRWENewswire News Update, I'm Christina Collins. Todays News Update: Arkansas Woman, 73, Forced to Attempt Bank Robbery and Michelle Obama's Transition Stages as First Lady The search began Monday for man suspected of holding a 73-year-old woman and her husband hostage at their home, then forcing her to attempt to rob a bank with what she thought was a bomb strapped to her ankle. Mrs. Betty Davis told employees at the bank in Fayetteville about the device, and authorities were able to safely evacuate the building before a bomb squad removed it from Davis' leg. Davis told police that a man, the couple could only vaguely describe as a white male of an indeterminate age had been holding her and her husband captive in their Washington County home. Sheriff's deputies dispatched there found her husband tied up but unharmed. The couple's pickup truck was missing, but sheriff's deputies found an abandoned truck believed to be the couple's. Washington County sheriff's Lt. Emily Augustine said Monday night that investigators believe the couple's story as the evidence they have supports the witness statements so far. According to a new book by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor titled "The Obamas," scheduled to hit stores on Tuesday, claims of Michelle Obama wanting to stay in Chicago with their children and not move to the White House after her husband's historic win in the 2008 presidential race are revealed. The book describes Obama as alone, frightened with uncertainty of what to do next during her first days as First Lady. She worried about her children running into White House tourists during play dates and said that sometimes it becomes difficult to live in what we call a bubble. Mrs. Obama's trip to London in 2009 when she visited with young girls found then that she was having an epiphany, truly understanding for the first time through the eyes of those admiring girls what it meant to be first lady realizing the responsibility and the impact and potential of her role. An advisor told Kantor that everyone was waiting for a black woman to make a mistake. However Mrs. Obama moved past that and took on the fight against childhood obesity while becoming a defender of her husband's drive to reform health care. Former aides say eventually, Mrs. Obama came to not only embrace, but love her role as first lady. The Changing Role of the Mobile Developer
Being a mobile developer today looks nothing like it did five years ago. These days developers are finding themselves in board rooms and being consulted on platform strategies, revenue models, UX design and customer service. Mobile developer portfolios are greatly strengthened when a candidate can point to an app in an appstore and discuss not only the coding challenges he or she overcame, but also answer the business and marketing questions that are sure to come up. Without an app, developers must still find a way to differentiate beyond code. Developers who have adapted to this new reality are thriving and many are building their own companies with much success. In this presentation, Pete Erickson, will discuss the shift that's taken place over the past three years and share his insights into the future role of the mobile developer. About Pete Erickson: Pete Erickson is a nationally recognized leader in the technology scene facilitating and speaking at events across the country. Pete currently oversees operations at Disruptathon and MoDevDC.
