Marcia answered my question, "At your highest profile trial, the one with the most publicity, what were you thinking 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after the verdict was read. Watch part 1 which is Episode 500 (woot, 500 episodes!) called "Springnet 500", it's much better to catch this in sequence. And at the end of Episode 501 Marcia poses for a little video with me. Fun times. Meet Rachel Knight, a wisecracking lush with a law degree and a strong anti-authoritarian bent. Knight is at the center of Marcia Clark's debut novel, Guilt by Association. Drawing on her experience as the head prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, Clark takes her readers on a fast-paced and suspenseful journey into the life of an L.A. prosecutor. Moderator Scott Montgomery is the crime fiction coordinator for MysteryPeople, the mystery bookstore with Austin's BookPeople. At the store, he teaches the monthly History of Mystery class and co-hosts the Hard Word Book Club. He also writes for Crimespree magazine, The Weekly Lizard blog, and has moderated panels at Bouchercon, the world's largest mystery conference.

Classified as a suicide by detectives, Keira’s death opens up a slew of questions for Hayley – Why was Keira murdered? Who killed her? What type of things has Keira been doing behind Hayley’s back? Ridden by guilt for not being there in Keira’s last hours, Hayley takes it upon herself to clear her friend’s name and track down the killer. But she can’t do this alone…. she’s going to need help. So Hayley flips on her webcam, and video blogs to the world, asking everybody watching to help her solve this murder mystery. The big question is, can she trust her Internet audience? Or is she telling them too much? Throughout her two and a half month investigation, Hayley will encounter a host of seedy and quirky characters and venture deeper into the “rabbit hole” than she’d ever imagined. As she gets closer and closer to the truth, danger will start to lurk, and Hayley will realize that her life might be in danger.

This is a short film I completed more than a year ago but has received little love in terms of marketing. After the film premiered at the Annapolis Film Festival last fall, promoting this film fell behind other projects that were in production. It belongs on the big screen but it certainly works on the small one, so here it is. I had been running a blog that was dedicated to the film but I am no longer posting on it. The downside of aloha and 'ohana is that people sometimes use the good feelings to (try and) manipulate you. As I write the show notes, I realize this idea is bouncing around from here in Hawai'i where I was talking with Jenn of MightyJ and Doctor Trey today all the way to NYC where I was reading Bill's blog at ReelSolid.tv . It happens not just with friends and family but in business situations too. "If you loved me, you would..." is how it goes in the personal realm. "Can't you give me a deal..." is the biz version. Of course it gets down to the energy. Nothing wrong with doing favors for friends and colleagues, but that's different from the manipulation that comes packed with guilt, pressure, and veiled threats now isn't it?
