Ich schlängele mich seit dem vergangenen Wochenende durch den iOS-Kugelhagel. ‘Retro Gaming Fanboy’ Thomas Meier spielt die PAL-Version auf Xbox seit Februar (Affiliate-Link) und sammelte zuvor bereits Erfahrungen mit der japanischen Veröffentlichung. Genau deshalb habe ich ihn gebeten, ein paar Worte zum Shoot’em-Up, mit Fokus auf die Xbox-Fassung, an dieser Stelle zu verlieren.
Knapp zwei Jahre nach der Japan-Veröffentlichung auf Xbox 360 und knapp vier Jahre nach dem Spielhallen-Release hat es der Horizontal-Shooter Deathsmiles endlich nach Europa geschafft. Für das japanische Videospielstudio Cave ist es erst das zweite horizontale Shoot’em-Up – Progear No Arashi, Kandidat Nummer 2, hat nie seine Wurzeln zum Automaten aufgegeben.
Wir Europäer bekommen die längere Wartezeit mit Bonus-Content der Mega Black Label Edition entschädigt. In Japan musste man für den spielbaren Zusatz-Charakter, die Extra-Stage und einen weiteren Schwierigkeitsgrad noch einmal satte 1200 Microsoft Points investieren. Außerdem enthält die deutsche Version den Soundtrack auf CD sowie Desktop-Accessoires wie Hintergrundbilder und Artworks.
Das Setting siedelt sich in einer kunterbunten ‘Gothic-Fantasy’-Umgebung an. In den sechs verschiedenen Spielmodi darf man sich auf allerhand skurrile Gegner freuen, zu denen unter anderem der Sensenmann, überdimensionale Drachen und eine riesige Kuh namens Mary zählen. Der Arcade Mode ist die unveredelte Low-Res-Spielhallen-Adaption. Die anderen Modi wurden überarbeitet und bieten feinste 2D Grafiken in hochauflösender Pixeldichte.
Feinde greifen aus allen Richtungen an und füllen in exzellenter Bullet-Hell-Manier den ganzen Bildschirm mit Geschossen. Um den Kugeln und Gegnern Herr zu werden nutzt man zwei Knöpfe fortlaufend: Feuerrichtung link und Feuerrichtung rechts. Hält man beide Buttons gedrückt, bildet sich ein Abwehr-Kreis um den Charakter. Jeder Feind, der diesen Ring versucht zu durchbrechen, erhält eine saftige Bleipulver-Abreibung. Wenn es einmal ernst um euren Lebensstand werden sollte, greift ihr zu ‘bildschirmreinigenden’ Bomben.
Abgeschossene Gegner hinterlassen Bonus-Gegenstände. Hat man von den Items 1000 Stück gesammelt (in den verschiedenen Spielmodi schon ab einer Anzahl von 100), kann man durch gleichzeitiges Drücken der beiden Feuerknöpfe den vernichtenden ‘Power-Up-Modus’ aktivieren. In einem Zeitfenster, bei dem ein Countdown von 1000 auf 0 herunterzählt, lässt sich der Highscore in ungeahnte Dimensionen schießen. Gegnerkontakt beendet die Punktejagd. Das mag sich einfach anhören, verlangt aber eine gehörige Portion Zielwasser.
Video-Replays lassen sich abspeichern. Der erreichte Highscore wird auf Xbox Live vorgezeigt. Der Soundtrack weiß zu gefallen und passt perfekt zur explosiven Umgebung. Der letzte Endboss wird sogar zu einem Musikstück aus Phantom der Oper bekämpft. Die japanischen Sprach-Samples der Zwischensequenzen hat man in der Pal-Version leider vergessen. Auch die Übersetzung der Geschichte, nicht gerade ein elementarer Bestandteil eines 2D-Shooters, wirkt falsch durch den Sprachwolf gedreht.

"Just a review on these two cases, plus the items in the starter pack. Hope you enjoy it! Leather Flip Style Rating: 9/10 Pros: A very sturdy, and reliable case. Nice leather stitching, and the leather itself. It has a really nice chrome to make it look very sleek, and the case opens differently than what most of up would expect Cons: The volume rockers and the lock button are hard to reach, and it's a bit difficult to put the iPod in for the first time. Info: Has all the ports open, and inside the case is a small slit for a credit card or something. On the back there is a cut-out for the Apple logo to shine through. Don't worry it's deep so it won't damage it. Overall great case! ---------------------------------------------------------- iPod Touch Starter Pack Rating: 10/10 Pros: Comes with everything you need! The silicone case is great, it's not flimsy, and it is anti dust. All their Silicone cases come with a screen shield and cleaning cloth, which is pretty nice. Everything else is good. Cons: The neck strap is a bit useless Info: Comes with a silicone case, clear screen shield and cleaning cloth, USB Wall charger, dock adapter, a pair of headphone buds, and a lanyard neck strap. "This is a review on the Agent18 EcoShield for the iPod Touch 2G and 3G. This product retails for 29.95 (might qualify for free shipping), and comes with a screen shield, a movie stand, and the case itself. It is a 2-part eco friendly case, and has a nice plastic feel to it. All ports and buttons are fully exposed, so you don't need to worry about it not fitting in your iHome, or your headphones not fitting. Also it covers the chrome all around, and has a small cut-out for the bottom of the home button. Most of the ports are more open on the back allowing it to have a good feel when you press the buttons or a more comfortable touch. The movie stand is great, being a sturdy metal stand. Again Agent18 never ceases to amaze me with the great touch of their screen shields.
