Nobel Laureate: "Stop the Killing in Yemen"
For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ me.lt Human Rights activist and co-laureate of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, Ms. Tawakkol Karman, came to Brussels on December 1st to expose human rights violations against peaceful protesters by the authoritarian regime in Yemen. She calls for immediate action to stop the killing in Yemen, and to not be deceived by Saleh's signature on a step-down agreement. On December 1st, the President of Women Journalists Without Chains presented details of the previous days bombing and shelling, carried out by Yemeni authorities in Taiz, to the office of International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) in Brussels. Tawakkol Karman is calling for the EU and international communities to take immediate action. [Tawakkol Karman, President, Women Journalists Without Chains]: "Because of their silence, now the people in Yemen are killed in the streets." That attack killed 9 people. This happened 10 days after Yemen President Saleh signed the agreement to step down. Since 2005, Tawakkol Karman has been fighting for freedom and democratic rights in Yemen. She was prominent in the beginning of this year's demonstrations against the dictatorship in Yemen. She won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Ai Weiwei pays bond to fight tax bill
www.euronews.net China's most famous critic, Ai Weiwei, has paid a bond of nearly one million euros as he sets about appealing a huge tax demand. The dissident artist has been accused by the government of owing back taxes and of late payments. The bond he has handed over was raised by his supporters, who claim the case against Ai is part of Beijing's efforts to silence him. It does not include a fine, which is also being demanded. In April, the dissident was detained without charge and held mainly in solitary confinement until his conditional release in June. Human Rights Watch Concerned over China's Secret Detentions Law
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt We've been telling you about a new revision to China's criminal law that could make currently unlawful secret detentions legal. It would allow authorities to hold suspects at undisclosed locations for up to 6 months without telling anyone where they are. Now Human Rights Watch, which has been monitoring the Chinese regime's secret detention facilities, is speaking out against the new law. China's campaign to silence dissenters like artist Ai Weiwei through secret detentions could be pushed further into the shadows if proposed crime law changes go through. The comments were made by a prominent rights advocacy group on Thursday. China has clamped down hard on dozens of prominent critics and dissidents including human rights lawyers, bloggers and civil activists... locking them up incommunicado for weeks and even months at a time in undisclosed locations. [Sophie Richardson, China Director, Human Rights Watch]: "Instead of at least the spirit of its international legal obligation, we've actually seen the Chinese government take the shocking steps of trying to legalize this practice rather than eradicate it. There's a new proposed legislation, revisions to criminal procedure law, which would allow people to be held in certain kinds of cases for up to six months at an undisclosed location." Despite international criticism, the Chinese regime has continued to run so ... From: NTDTV Views: 38 2 ratings Time: 02:39 More in Nonprofits & Activism
