Lost And Nameless Orchestra - "The Red Haired Boy": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
"Foot stomping, heart racing, exciting music..." As this fan attests, there's something about dueling fiddles, vigorous guitar playing, and an air-tight rhythm section that compels your body to move. Tastefully pairing a wide dynamic range and an intimate connection with the listeners, the Austin-based fiddle-driven folk rock quartet, Lost & Nameless Orchestra gets you out of your chair and onto the dance floor. Founding members Chris E. Peterson (fiddle / lap steel / mandolin / bass) and Patrick Conway (acoustic & electric guitars / vocals) met in St. Louis in 1993 and formed an instant bond playing fiddle tunes and Patrick's original songs. Their musical travels took them throughout the USA and Europe until the band settled in Austin, TX in 2006. The band has since grown to include 15-year old musical prodigy Kimberly Zielnicki (fiddle / bass / vocals / ukulele) and Nathan Quiring (keyboards / accordion). All four members are highly skilled and well trained musicians with a sincere love for making music together. The band's unique chemistry on stage creates an intimate atmosphere in the room and draws listeners into the music. As the intensity builds, it is not uncommon to catch band members dancing on chairs and fueling the fire of excitement in the room. After a standing residency at Flipnotics, a calendar full of shows all over Texas and Arkansas, and their first tour under their belt, Lost & Nameless Orchestra is currently in the studio recording their debut full ... The Dunwells - "I Could Be A King": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
THE DUNWELLS -- BLIND SIGHTED FAITH Utterly natural. There's no more fitting description for both the music of The Dunwells as well as the story of their magical rise from the pubs of Leeds, England to an American record deal and a stunning debut album in just two short years. The group is two brothers, two cousins and totaling five best mates who simply love to sing and play music, and do so together. When they make music, the results exemplify the equation that the sum of the parts can be even greater than the whole. Striking an organic blend between acoustic and electric roots music laced by luscious vocal harmonies by all five members, their songs and sound feel both bracingly fresh while at the same time as warm and familiar as a dear longtime friend. Blind Sighted Faith, the debut album on Playing In Traffic Records, is a timeless yet contemporary collection of 11 captivating and indelible numbers that transcend genres to offer a fresh, richly rooted harvest of listening pleasure. From its opening track, "I Could Be A King," a regal rocker with splashes of modernist Britpop shine, the set is a sumptuous banquet of musical modes. One moves from moments of graceful reflective repose like "Only Me" to the swirling mesmerism of "Follow The Road." The band offers a panoramic collection that seamlessly melds elements of Celtic and American folk, rock, blues, pop and soul into a trademark sound all their own. Whether it's the majestic prayerful plaint of "Oh Lord" or the ... From: sxsw Views: 410 7 ratings Time: 03:48 More in Entertainment

Johnny Saito - "On The Raft": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
24-year-old Saito Johnny, currently of Tokyo, Japan, is swiftly gaining international popularity for his uniquely Japanese blend of bluegrass, country, rock and pop. In 2011 he was hand-selected by Taylor Swift to open for her on the Japan and Hong Kong legs of her tour, and it's easy to understand why: although young, his skills as a writer of songs (whether acoustic ballads or fun, uptempo numbers) are matched only by his dexterity on the banjo, mandolin, and guitar and his sweet voice. He started making music in Sendai, Japan as a teenager, and started paying his dues early, eventually working himself up to sold-out solo shows by the time he was in college. After graduation, he moved to Tokyo to give his music the chance for an international platform. And he's succeeded- along with the aforementioned selection by Ms. Swift, he played Summer Sonic (Japan's largest music festival) with his band ( Taro: Mandolin/Iwami Keigo!: Bass / Techno Matsumoto: Fiddle) and started performing with them in the clubs in Japan in 2011 and just released his debut album "I am Johnny" nationwide in October the same year. 2012 will be a big year for this Japanese country phenomenon! Treetop Flyers - "It's About Time": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
"'Pure Country Soul' is about right," reckons Reid Morrison of Treetop Flyers, whose beautifully tangled roots soak up a timeless musical current. "We're not full-on country or Southern rock or soul. We have this cauldron, and we put all those influences in." Based in West London (where locals have witnessed a neo-Americana scene developing), the five-piece Flyers' rock-revved, sepia-toned soul'n'roll sound has been gathering pace since 2008. In terms of where the sound comes from Morrison cites influences such namesake Van Morrison, The Band, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, The Coral, Midlake and My Morning Jacket, "anything that feels good and makes us want to get up and play," Reid vouches. It's harmony heaven round here these parts. Beside lead singer Morrison, drummer Tomer Danan, guitarist Sam Beer, and bassist Matthew Starritt all sing, and if they could get guitarist Laurie Sherman to overcome his shyness, they'd have one more. Everyone contributes to the songwriting, which spans robust bar-band crunch and an aching tenderness, a liberated freedom and an encroaching darkness. Instant proof comes on their debut single "Things Will Change", which is joined on a four-track EP by "Long Cold Winter" and acoustic versions of "Rose Is In The Yard" and "Disappearing Kind". All five members have been in bands before: Reid fronted the more country-skiffle Morrison Steam Fayre in west London while ex-pat American Tomer was part of New York ...
