Elderly Civil Rights Activist Faces Foreclosure, Eviction
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 23:00:37 02/08/12
I've lost count of the number of reports I've read in recent years of an elderly person facing the trauma of losing their home to foreclosure and being taken by ambulance to the hospital on eviction day due to the effects of stress on their physical health. Or those who would rather end their own lives rather than face the possibility of being put out on the streets in their senior years.
The story of 78-year-old Helen Bailey is especially poignant this Black History Month, as she was active in the civil rights movement and marched with Martin Luther King.
Change.org has started a petition calling on Chase Bank to make a settlement with Ms. Bailey, and cancel any scheduled foreclosure auction: >
Helen Bailey is a 78-year-old grandmother who participated in the civil rights movement, worked as a childcare provider for autistic children, and was a community volunteer. She has paid her mortgage since 1999, but now she can't keep up the payments. All she wants is to stay in her home until she dies, in the neighborhood where she feels safe and has lived for nearly quarter of a century. She could have refinanced with a company willing to let her live in the house for free until her death, but Chase Bank would not reduce her principal by $9,000. She's been paying 7% interest, well above most rates, so Chase could have decided they had made enough. Instead, they have started foreclosure and Ms. Bailey could end on the street.
Since then, Ms. Bailey's lawyer has found an alternate buyer for her home. This sale would provide Ms Bailey with an exit from her current mortgage and allow her to pursue other options for housing. We request that Chase:
· accept the offer of $85,000
· write off any deficiency between the loan balance and the offer
· waive all interest, legal fees and penalties accrued since the initial refinance offer
· cancel any foreclosure auction scheduled
It has been estimated that at foreclosure, Chase may lose over $30,000 compared to this settlement offer. Therefore this option makes the most sense financially for Chase and given Ms Bailey's specific circumstances, there is little moral hazard in this solution.
If you'd like to add your name to the petition calling on Chase to keep Ms. Bailey in her home, you may do so online here .

While New England Cries, Gronkowski Dances

Welcome to RideThePine.com
Living in New England, a bunch of my friends and family members were so distraught after the New England Patriots loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 they were almost brought to tears. You know who wasn’t too upset. Rob Gronkowski . Ankle looks a 100% dude. Good thing you went all in on that hail mary...oh wait .
When I first wrote this episode, I didn’t want to come off as bitter that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl. I was even going to call Eli Manning elite. But the more I watch the highlights the more I can’t not be bitter. I can’t do it. Here is my only compliment for the Giants and Eli Manning. They don’t make mistakes, and when they do make mistakes they never pay for it. They never pay for it.
Lets look back through the timeline of New York Giants Super Bowl victories.
1990 NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers , they do the unthinkable and knock out Joe Montana . The Niners still dominated that game until an unbelievably rare Roger Craig fumble starts the Giants final drive which leads to a game winning field goal. The Super Bowl just a few days later, wide right by Scott Norwood. Giants are default Super Bowl Champions.
2007 NFC Championship game, Brett Favre makes one of the worst throws in football history throwing an interception in overtime that turns into a Giants field goal win. Super Bowl just a few days later, David Tyre’s helmet catch. Giants score touchdown, Default Super Bowl.
2012 NFC Championship game, two fumbled punt returns by 49ers Kyle Williams lead to Giants score and a trip to the Super Bowl. Now think back to all of the mistakes the Giants made in Super Bowl 46. Giants burn two timeouts early in the second half, because they can’t get their stuff together. Never comes back to hurt them. They fumble three times, but don’t lose possession on any. Wes Welker , who never drops a pass, dropped the game clincher.
Its like the whole Giants organization has a huge horseshoe up their ass. And to be clear, I’m not saying that the Patriots were the better team. Outside of a ten minute stretch when Tom Brady completed 16 straight passes, they played like poo.
The Giants were the better team but they never WIN Super Bowls, they just find ways to not lose Super Bowls and become champions by default.
And there is a difference.
The one thing you have to be impressed with is the class the Giants show in victory, right Brandon Jacobs .
Daddy, what’s decapitation?
Although Gisele Bundchen wasn’t much better after being taunted by Giants fans, yelling out that “my husband can’t fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.”
At least she was more upset than Gronk .

South Korea: Calls for Law Change to Protect Foreign Wives
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me In South Korea there have been calls for a change to immigration laws to protect the human rights of foreign spouses. It's addressing the growing number of foreign brides coming to the country. NTD's Jarrod Hall has the story. Irena is an Uzbekistani living in South Korea. She came here six years ago to live with her Korean husband. She is one of a growing number of foreign brides marrying South Korean men. "The first time I met him I hadn't really thought about marrying a Korean, but when I saw him I liked his shy face and his personality. That was what attracted me. So we came to Korea and got married." Men in Korea's rural areas often have difficulty finding wives. These men are increasingly turning to international marriage brokers. Kim Yejin is social worker in Daejeon City who works with foreign brides. "The low birth rate is a big problem for Korea at the moment, that's why the government is encouraging inter-country marriages." There are concerns that these women are currently vulnerable to abuse and recently the National Human Rights Council called to reforms to Korea's immigration laws to protect them. "Most of the women who marry Koreans are from China. Many also come from Vietnam, The Philippines and other South-East Asian countries. Also Russia and Uzbekistan." "Currently, when a foreign bride comes to Korea she must go together with her husband to ... From: NTDTV Views: 17 1 ratings Time: 02:09 More in News & Politics

Type 1 Diabetes Kids - UCTV: Growing Up with Type 1 Diabetes
A childhood diagnosis of type 1 diabetes can be devastating. But it doesn't have to be with the right about of family support to help the child cope and adjust to their new life. Dr. Steven Edelman talks with noted pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Sherry Franklin and her daughter Victoria, who has type 1 diabetes, for a unique perspective on how to live successfully with the disease. Series: "Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD)" [11/2011] [Health and Medicine] [UCTV Show ID: 20828] Original Title: Taking Control of Your Diabetes: Growing Up with Type 1 Diabetes
Background Information
Diabetes mellitus type 1 (Type 1 diabetes, T1DM, IDDM, or, formerly, juvenile diabetes) is a form of diabetes mellitus that results from autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. The subsequent lack of insulin leads to increased blood and urine glucose. The classical symptoms are polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst), polyphagia (increased hunger), and weight loss. Incidence varies from 8-17/100,000 in Northern Europe and the U.S., with a high of about 35/100,000 in Scandinavia, to a low of 1/100,000 in Japan and China.[4] Eventually, type 1 diabetes is fatal unless treated with insulin. Injection is the most common method of administering insulin; other methods are insulin pumps and inhaled insulin. Pancreatic transplants have been used. Pancreatic islet cell transplantation is experimental, though growing. Most people who develop type 1 are otherwise healthy. Although the cause of type 1 diabetes is still not fully understood, it is believed to be of immunological origin. Type 1 can be distinguished from type 2 diabetes via a C-peptide assay, which measures endogenous insulin production. Type 1 treatment must be continued indefinitely in all cases. Treatment is not intended to significantly impair normal activities, and can be done adequately if sufficient patient training, awareness, appropriate care, discipline in testing and dosing of insulin is taken. However, treatment remains quite burdensome for many people. Complications may be associated with both low blood sugar and high blood sugar, both largely due to the non-physiological manner in which insulin is replaced. Low blood sugar may lead to seizures or episodes of unconsciousness and requires emergency treatment. High blood sugar may lead to increased fatigue and can also result in long term damage to organs.
