NBA star Tyson Chandler was diagnosed with asthma in 2004, but that hasn’t stopped the 7’1” New Orleans Hornets center from working to rise to the top of his game. By partnering with his doctor, Tyson has kept his asthma under control. Today, asthma affects 6.8 million children in the United States (nearly 1 in 15) and is the most common chronic condition affecting children. Tyson wants to help raise awareness among parents of children with asthma that the disease does not need to get in the way of their child's goals. Chandler hopes his personal story will help dispel the myth that having asthma should limit physical activity. This year the New Orleans Hornet is an ambassador for the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge. This nationwide competition sponsored by Merck & Co. Inc. allows boys and girls to test their fundamental basketball skills. The Skills Challenge runs from December 2008 to May 2009 and is free for boys and girls, ages 9 to 14. Participants will compete in a time-based, half-court obstacle course to demonstrate their fundamental basketball skills and physical fitness. The Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge will feature more than 700 local, regional and national competitions. The goal of the competition is to generate enthusiasm around basketball. Materials will also be available to help educate parents about asthma control.

[Kim Sei-Hyeok, General Manager Of Taekwondo Team]: "Taekwondo is our national sport, it originated in Korea, so we are under pressure to get many gold medals. It's natural for us to win gold medals, we'll be treated as traitors if we don't, that's what our media says." After a disappointing Athens Games, where they won two gold medals, the team returned to Beijing to win golds in all of the four categories they were allowed to participate in. Each country is only allowed to send representatives for maximum four out of the eight categories in taekwondo. The team is training everyday to keep in shape and is focusing on their strengths. At 18, he drove out to Mammoth, CA and weaseled his way into the Superpark Competition, beating out the competition when he launched a backside rodeo over a 110-foot gap jump. After that performance, Rice was asked to be a part of his first sports action film, Transcendence. Since then, he was won countless awards, including two X-Games Gold Medals and starred in the critically acclaimed snowboarding films: First Descent, Art of Flight and That's It, That's All.
In 2012, Travis launched the first-ever Red Bull Supernatural in Bald Face, British Columbia, where he invited the 18 best back country snowboarders in the world to compete in natural conditions. It was the ultimate contest for the best all-around snowboarder and Travis aptly paced the competition.
The future is bright for Travis Rice, with everyone waiting to see what he will do next, not just as a snowboarder, but as one of the sport's true innovators.

The Academy's scholarship program has recently opened its doors to Chinese vocalists. Our correspondents bring you the story. One of the winners of the New Tang Dynasty Television vocal competition, bass Li Yong from China, is on his way to Italy on an artistic scholarship. The Sicilia Opera Academy put up the scholarship to give talented vocalists the opportunity to perfect their craft in Italy with renowned baritone Maestro Marcello Lippi. [William Grosso, President of Sicilia Opera Academy]: "So I thought I would open the doors of my cultural association, which is also an opera academy, to Chinese singers, or Chinese nationals, who wish to deepen the study of singing in a Western country such as Italy, which is also the home of this type of vocal art."
