He had been suffering from cancer. Gazzara made his name in the 1959 courtoom drama Anatomy of Murder. He played a US Army officer on trial for murdering a man accused of raping his wife. SOUL TRAIN CREATOR, DON CORNELIUS, WAS FOUND DEAD WEDNESDAY MORNING, FROM A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND. LAW ENFORCEMENT SOURCES TELL THE AP, POLICE RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A SHOOTING ABOUT 4AM AT CORNELIUS' HOME IN SHERMAN OAKS CALIFORNIA. HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT CEDARS-SINAI MEDICAL CENTER AN HOUR LATER. THE SOUL TRAIN ICON HAD REPORTEDLY BEEN SUFFERING FROM MANY HEALTHY ISSUES, INCLUDING A STROKE AND A CONDITION THAT REQUIRED BRAIN SURGERY. CORNELIUS CREATED SOUL TRAIN IN 1971, AND HOSTED THE SHOW UNTIL 1993. THE SHOW BECAME THE LONGEST-RUNNING DANCE SHOW ON TV AND INTRODUCED TELEVISION AUDIENCES TO LEGENDS LIKE ARETHA FRANKLIN, MARVIN GAYE AND BARRY WHITE. SOUL TRAIN IS CELEBRATED FOR BRINGING AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC AND STYLE TO THE WORLD FOR 35 YEARS. MUSIC ICON QUINCY JONES TELLS THE AP, "I am shocked and deeply saddened at the sudden passing of my friend, colleague, and business partner. Don was a visionary pioneer and a giant in our business.
