And that tradition remains alive today... with people paying tens of thousands of dollars for prized catches from the lake. A fish weighing nearly 43 pounds set a record-high price of $47550 at an auction in northeast China's Jilin Province. The second biggest fish sold for $20450, at the annual winter fishing festival that opened Thursday. More than 30 people bid at the auction. The winter fishing season will last until the eve of the incoming Chinese Spring Festival, which is January 22nd. The money raised from the auction will be used to protect the ecosystem of Chagan Lake and its surrounding areas. The heaviest fish caught in the first day brings luck and auspiciousness in local culture. In ancient times, Chinese emperors treated their guests from far away with these massive fish. Back in 2010, a 42 pound first fish sold for just under $46000. Chagan Lake is the largest inland lake in Jilin Province. The high water quality and well-protected environment has made the lake a haven for fish and shrimps. People here have made a living fishing in Chagan Lake for thousands of years, especially during the long, severe winters. When food supplies run short during the extremely cold period, fish becomes ... From: NTDTV Views: 398 3 ratings Time: 01:41 More in Entertainment

About Robin Williams...
ROBIN WILLIAMS (Lovelace / Ramon) is a celebrated performer who has received myriad honors for a body of work spanning standup, television, stage and film.
Williams won an Oscar® for his performance in Gus Van Sant’s “Good Will Hunting,” and garnered previous Academy Award® nominations for his work in “The Fisher King,” “Dead Poets Society” and “Good Morning Vietnam.” He has also received six Golden Globe Awards, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Additionally, he shared the National Board of Review Best Actor Award with Robert De Niro for “Awakenings” and, in 2004, he received the prestigious Career Achievement Award from the Chicago International Film Festival.
Williams was also recently honored with a 2011 Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance for his Broadway acting debut as the lead character in Rajiv Joseph’s critically acclaimed play “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.” His additional stage credits include a landmark production of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot,” directed by Mike Nichols and co-starring Steve Martin, and “The Exonerated,” which tells the true stories of six innocent survivors of death row.
His stand-up comedy, which marks the genesis of Williams’ career, has also garnered acclaim and awards. From 2008 to 2010, he performed his sold-out comedy tour “Weapons of Self Destruction” in 65 cities in the U.S., as well as London, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, grossing $40 million. Taped over two nights in Washington D.C., it also aired on HBO, becoming the network’s highest rated stand-up comedy special that year and earning three Emmy Award nominations, including one for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. His sold-out 26-city, one-man tour in 2002 also culminated on Broadway and was filmed for HBO after Williams’ 16-year absence from stand-up. “Robin Williams: Live on Broadway” garnered five Emmy Award nominations. In addition, he has won five Grammy awards for the audio recordings of his stand-up shows and his children’s record, Pecos Bill.
Williams has also received numerous nominations for his work as an actor in television, most recently in 2008 for a special guest appearance on “Law and Order: SVU.” His first Emmy nomination was for his performance as Mork from Ork on the popular television series “Mork & Mindy,” where he first captured the world’s attention.
Trained at New York’s Juilliard School, Williams made his cinematic debut as the title character in Robert Altman’s “Popeye.” He followed up with starring roles in Paul Mazursky’s “Moscow on the Hudson,” and “The World According to Garp,” George Roy Hill’s adaptation of John Irving’s acclaimed bestselling novel.
Most recently, Williams was seen starring in the dark comedy “World’s Greatest Dad,” which premiered to critical praise at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival; in “Old Dogs,” opposite John Travolta; and as Teddy Roosevelt in the hit “Night at the Museum” and its sequel, “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.”
His filmography also includes the dramatic thrillers “Insomnia,” directed by Christopher Nolan, and Mark Romanek’s “One Hour Photo.” Among his many box office successes are Chris Columbus’ “Mrs. Doubtfire”; Mike Nichols’ “The Birdcage,” for which he earned a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award®, shared with the cast; Tom Shadyac’s “Patch Adams”; Steven Spielberg’s “Hook”; and Joe Johnston’s “Jumanji.”
Williams lent his voice talents in creating the memorable character of the Genie in the blockbuster adventure “Aladdin,” Fendor in the 2005 animated feature “Robots,” and Ramon and Lovelace in George Miller’s Academy Award®-winning “Happy Feet.” Additionally, he was the voice of Dr. Know in Steven Spielberg’s “AI: Artificial Intelligence.”
Offstage, Williams takes great joy in supporting philanthropic efforts around the world. Headlining a number of USO tours, he has traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan four times and is perhaps best known for his affiliation with “Comic Relief,” which was founded in 1986 and has, to date, raised over $50 million for America’s homeless.
About the movie... The sequel to “Happy Feet,” the Academy Award®-winning animated smash hit, “Happy Feet Two” returns audiences to the magnificent landscape of Antarctica in superb 3D.
Mumble, The Master of Tap, has a problem because his tiny son, Erik, is choreo-phobic. Reluctant to dance, Erik runs away and encounters The Mighty Sven—a penguin who can fly! Mumble has no hope of competing with this charismatic new role model.
But things get worse when the world is shaken by powerful forces.
Erik learns of his father’s guts and grit as Mumble brings together the penguin nations and all manner of fabulous creatures—from tiny Krill to giant Elephant Seals—to put things right.
“Happy Feet Two” is directed by George Miller, who won an Oscar® as the creator of the original “Happy Feet.” The film features the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, Alecia Moore (P!nk), Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Sofia Vergara, Common, Hugo Weaving, Richard Carter, Magda Szubanski, Anthony LaPaglia and Benjamin “Lil P-Nut” Flores, Jr.
George Miller co-wrote the screenplay with Gary Eck, Warren Coleman and Paul Livingston. Miller is also producing the film, along with Doug Mitchell and Bill Miller. Chris deFaria, Philip Hearnshaw, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers. The cinematographer is David Peers and the animation director is Rob Coleman. The film features vocals by P!nk, with music by John Powell.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Kennedy Miller Mitchell production, with Dr. D. Studios, a George Miller film, “Happy Feet Two.” The film will be presented in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D, and also in 2D. It has been rated PG for “rude humor and mild peril.”

Join Steve Samblis on the Red Carpet for the movie "Detachment" starring Adrien Brody, Marcia Gay Harden, James Caan, Christina Hendricks, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, Tim Blake Nelson, Bryan Cranston, William Petersen Synopsis
Director Tony Kaye ( American History X ) creates a unique and stylized portrait of the American education system seen through the eyes of substitute teacher Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody). Henry wanders in and out of students' lives, imparting knowledge where he can in the short time he has with them. Then a new assignment places him at a failing public school run by Principal Dearden (Marcia Gay Harden) and alters his insular world. Henry's stoic front is slowly chipped away by three women who impact his view on life: a student (newcomer Betty Kaye), a fellow teacher (Christina Hendricks), and a teenage runaway (Sami Gayle).
Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. He assembles an astounding ensemble cast that includes Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, Tim Blake Nelson, William Petersen, and Bryan Cranston, but it is Brody who carries the film on his able shoulders. He magnificently captures Henry's complex psychology, using great nuance and intimacy to express the feeling of living in a world of people who either choose to ignore or are just ignored themselves. Tribeca Edition
The Perfect Family - staring Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter, Richard Chamberlain, Elizabeth Peña, Sharon Lawrence
About the movie... Suburban mother and devout Catholic Eileen Cleary (Kathleen Turner) has always kept up appearances. When she runs for the Catholic Woman of the Year title at her local parish—an award she has coveted for years—her final test is introducing her family to the board for the seal of approval. Now she must finally face the nonconformist family she has been glossing over for years. Her gay daughter, Shannon (Emily Deschanel), a successful lawyer, is about to marry her life partner Angela (Angelique Cabral). Her unhappily married son Frank Jr. (Jason Ritter) is cheating on his wife with the local manicurist. And Eileen's own marriage to a recovered alcoholic is pulling at the seams….
This heartfelt dysfunctional family comedy boasts a memorable performance from Academy Award® nominee Turner as the conflicted and comical matriarch, alongside a bright ensemble cast including Richard Chamberlain and Michael McGrady. Newcomer director Anne Renton keeps the pacing taut and crafts an honest, modern family tale. Writers Claire V. Riley and Paula Goldberg infuse just the right amount of seriousness and levity into their script, reminding us that family is never truly perfect. Brought to you by www.icplaces.com

Vanishing on 7th Street
(Magnolia Pictures )
Release: 02/25/2011
From director Brad Anderson (Session 9, Transsiberian, The Machinist) comes VANISHING ON 7TH STREET, a terrifying, apocalyptic thriller that taps into one of humankind’s most primal anxieties: fear of the dark. An unexplained blackout plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, and by the time the sun rises, only a few people remain—surrounded by heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. A small handful of strangers that have survived the night (Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and newcomer Jacob Latimore) each find their way to a rundown bar, whose gasoline-powered generator and stockpile of food and drink make it the last refuge in a deserted city. With daylight beginning to disappear completely and whispering shadows surrounding the survivors, they soon discover that the enemy is the darkness itself, and only the few remaining light sources can keep them safe. As time begins to run out for them, darkness closes in and they must face the ultimate terror. Against Me!, Alkaline Trio, Death on Two Wheels, SantaCon, and Joey Ramone
[LESS INFO] 40 VIEWS | ADDED 03:00:00 12/26/10
As we approach the end of the year on our new broadcast home, we thought it only fitting to feature what you %ndash the proud and passionate JBTV viewers %ndash have called your favorites of 2010.
Leading the views and votes is Against Me%rsquos interview with JBTV host Brendan Kelly and their performance on our HD sound stage. Shot the afternoon of July 3, while the band was in town supporting Silversun Pickups at the Aragon Ballroom, Against Me! blisters through a stripped down set of anthemic pop-punk singalongs including pre-New Wave faves %ldquoPints of Guiness Make You Strong%rdquo and %ldquoI Was a Teenage Anarchist,%rdquo as well as material from their latest release, White Crosses.
In the audience that day was WWE Superstar, CM Punk. Never one to shy from cameras, Punk obliged when we asked him to shoot a post-show interview. Trust us %ndash you don%rsquot need to be a WWE fan or follower to appreciate this former world champ%rsquos reminiscence on growing up watching JBTV and attending sweaty, sold-out shows at Metro as a youngster.
Our friends from Atlanta, Death on Two Wheels, have been such a steadily requested segment since the band delivered this staggering in-studio performance last Spring that it only makes sense to bring them back for another wicked run on JBTV. On the road in support of their most recent EP, Again for The First Time, Do2W offers up their powerful blend of classic and modern rock, fronted by one of the most dynamic personalities (Trae Vedder) making music today. We dare you to watch this segment and not look to see when Death on Two Wheels is coming to town.
Also this week %ndash
Host Tobias Jeg is live at the 2010 Vans Warped Tour with Dan and Derek from Alkaline Trio. Wondering if last week%rsquos JBTV exclusive segment with Matt Skiba at Bottom Lounge triggered a ton of Trio love? Toby and Brendan are both on double duty this week as the Static Age duo invades Santacon Chicago. Because you can realistically watch A Christmas Story 4, maybe 5, times before you can recite each line along with the movie on Christmas Day, JBTV%rsquos got ya covered. 9 PM. NBC Chicago Nonstop (5.2). December 25th.
Thank you for making 2010 the greatest year in JBTV history! Have a safe and happy Christmas from our family to yours.
