The Hangover Stars Want Tons Of Money
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 00:40:11 02/02/12
The stars of The Hangover films are demanding at least 10 million plus a share of the profits to do a third installment of the hit comedy franchise – and sources familiar with the negotiations say they’re almost certain to get what they want.
For the first Hangover film, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms each got paid around 500,000. For the second, they negotiated 3 million each and they are on their way up. A Warner Bros source admits it will happen saying "they're holding all the cards.
Much was made of Jim Carrey's daughter Jane's recent appearance on American Idol – in particular the praise lavished on her for braving the auditions. But insiders say all was not what it seems and that Carrey Jr didn't exactly have to slum it.
A source tells is that, Her audition was pre-arranged with the producers. She did not wait in line for hours or days outside like many others.
Insiders say that Carrey is almost guaranteed to make it to the live finals with producers hoping her father will show up. For his part, dad Jim is thrilled.
The ongoing war between Halle Berry and her ex Gabriel Aubrey is getting nasty with the pair back in court again after their daughter Nahla nanny accused him of pushing her while she was holding the child.
Aubrey is telling friends that the childminder tripped, nevertheless, Halle wanted the court to remove all his access.
She's always sung about being a good girl gone bad ‚Äì but one suspects that even Rihanna might soon regret her latest style choice. The singer has got the words, Thug life‚ tattooed onto each of her fingers.
Normally, we're fans of her edgy style but we reckon perhaps it's time for her to stop smoking whatever's in those hand-rolled ciggies she's been spied with recently.

Foggy Florida Pileup Leaves One Girl Without Family, Country Or Health Insurance
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:27 02/02/12
On Saturday morning Lidiane Carmo woke up in Florida, where she was attending a church conference with her father, mother, and sister. Carmo was the youngest in her family, and they had traveled to Florida with her pastor father, her aunt, uncle and cousins as well as several other other church members.
On Sunday morning, Lidiane woke up in a Florida hospital with broken bones and internal injuries after the van they were traveling in was involved in Sunday's horrendous highway pileup on I-75 near Gainesville, Florida. Her father, mother, sister, uncle, aunt and cousin were killed. She is the sole survivor in her immediate family.
Lidiane's parents came to the United States from Brazil 12 years ago, bringing five-year old Letiticia and three-year old Lidiane with them. They had legal visas which have since expired.
Lidiane is now an orphan. She has no health insurance. She has no legal status to remain in this country. And she has no family beyond those remaining members of her father's church. She is the sole survivor.
If we had a DREAM Act in place, Lidiane could petition for citizenship here since she entered the country legally. But we don't, and because of Republicans' insane need to pander to bigots and racists, we're unlikely to see it without a completely different Congress.
I'm writing about Lidiane because she puts a very human face on what they're doing when they block the DREAM Act. I wonder if any of these crazy Republican candidates could gaze into her frightened, hurting eyes, and tell her she has to go back to a country she doesn't even know. I think they could, and that should concern us all.
Congress forced a clause into the Affordable Care Act which excluded undocumented immigrants from coverage. The exclusion wasn't simply from federal funds for subsidies. They are barred from purchasing insurance on the state-based exchanges and the national exchange. Barred. Even if they pay with their own funds. Barred.
Today a 15-year old child is in a hospital in Florida, suffering from severe injuries, bereft of her family, in Rick Scott's state. What will become of her?
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: >
As for Lidiane's status, one expert had reassurance for her friends and surviving relatives.
Charles Kuck, an Atlanta immigration attorney, told the AJC that Lidiane would not be deported because of a federal law granting special status to juveniles. Lidiane can become a ward of the state and be issued a green card, allowing her to stay, Kuck said.
"This child will be fine," Kuck said. "She's clearly an orphan at this moment."
But the Brazilian consulate was not as reassuring: >
At the church Tuesday night, a representative from the Brazilian Consulate in Atlanta addressed crash survivors and others in the congregation.
"I want to give you my love and our support," Ana Claudia Rodrigues, deputy consul general for the consulate, said through a translator.
But when crash victims asked about help, Rodrigues said she could only convey their concerns to the Brazilian government. Immigration issues are not up to the consulate, Rodrigues said, but the U.S. government.
"She didn't answer any of our questions," Weberson Barbosa, a crash survivor still on crutches, said Tuesday night. "We need someone to really view our pain and take action."
Lidiane's family, before the crash Yes, they really do. I wonder. Would Ron Paul tell this family to rely on charity? Would Mitt Romney tell this family to rely on charity? Would Newt Gingrich summon the neighborhood council to testify to Lidiane's character? Oh wait. She hasn't been here long enough.
Something is really broken in a country where a 15-year old child can suffer like this while politicians preach family values and American exceptionalism. Really broken.

Ledit RenArt - Fair Welcome
[LESS INFO] 12 VIEWS | ADDED 21:02:47 01/08/12
This is a Virtual Political Performance Act questioning several US intern political issues. 1 ) We saw this years "navy back home" done by two woman. Now, this is the tip of the iceberg and we are soon to see some other social changes to come in this century. Far fetched is human cloning. Can one pretend it is not actually being tested in the shadows ? Far fetched ; fair enough. But far from science fiction today is artificial insemination, woman being paid to carry out those babies for 9 month and delivering them, anonymous sperm donning and in vitro conception of human life. Wan't it or not, this is now and the family paradigm will change with it. A divorce was considered a sin 50 years ago : how will we make room for these new realities ? Will it get to a point where some will say : "well, I'm fully biological and your not, buddy" ? If ever you'd cannot have children because of some reason and, as any one of us could, wan't children of your own, you'd decide to consider such a technique in order to have children, how would like those new human beings, these children, to be treated ? 2 ) Regarding guns : there is no doubt about the dangers about buying guns freely. In other words, everybody should question this culture of violence and a few aspects of the American Constitution : I'm sorry to announce that we are in the 21th century now, not in the 17th and the revolution has been done with guns back then, so what's with the guns today ? Why guns ? What's with the militias ? Against what threat ? May all americans ask... 3 ) Regarding the occupations, do you consider that the youth could have been helped through this experience, especially into getting started in life with an interesting job for those who were hosting the crowds, acting, playing music, doing theater, requesting their right through peaceful matter ? Should the youth throw the towel before the elder do ? 4 ) Why all of this ? Why not ? What for ? What really is today, entertainment, politics... ? Should you not question what's been written here, for your own sake, at least ? This is not reality ; only an essay on what tomorrow could be, good or bad. Fair Welcome and thank you very much. Thank you very much. Oh yeah, and one last question : do you think publicity and technology are a good mix with politics ? Don't be afraid to cast your vote ; don't be afraid of democracy.

What 'Occupy Our Homes' Could Change
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 15:00:01 12/06/11
Amy Goodman reports on "Occupy Our Homes" for Democracy Now
This week 60 Minutes gave viewers a good look at some of the widespread criminality that created the Wall Street mortgage boom and led to our ongoing financial crisis. They also saw some of the overwhelming evidence of illegal activity on the part of big banks, and were reminded that none of those banks' executives have been prosecuted.
As ugly as the situation is, there is some logic behind the government's actions - and its inactions. They're acting on a tragically incorrect (but internally coherent) set of assumptions that can be summed up in one sentence. It goes something like this:
"To preserve the health of the American economy, banks must be allowed to keep preying on their consumers."
That's it. That's the logic.
But there are two exciting "Occupy" developments this week that could change the equation - "Take Back the Capitol" in the District of Columbia, and Tuesday's "Occupy Our Homes" events around the country. Think of them as complementary actions: One is taking place at the site of our greatest government power. The other is bringing the action to homes where people have been victimized by bankers.
People may not realize it, but there's power in those homes, too.
The Logic of Injustice
Despite their destructive behavior, the people who bailed bankers out and are giving them a free pass for their crimes aren't necessarily evil or corrupt. Well, okay, people like this guy are. But others have merely been so infected by misguided economic thinking that they really believe that the only way to save the economy is to keep shafting consumers and pampering mega-bankers.
The thinking goes something like this: Our largest banks are too big to fail, and since we lack the will or the motivation to break them up or regulate them we must protect them at all costs. We've propped them up with TARP, quantitative easing, and $7.7 trillion in secret Federal Reserve loans, but they're still shaky as hell. If we prosecute any of their executives, their stock prices will fall and they'll collapse again. And they'll take the entire economic system with them.
That leads to some grotesque miscarriages of justice. Nobody at Wells Fargo has been indicted for money laundering, for example, despite the fact that the bank has paid millions to settle charges of laundering cash for the Mexican drug cartels that have murdered more than 35,000 people. As an experienced bank investigator working for the Senate observed, "There’s no capacity to regulate or punish them because they’re too big to be threatened with failure."
The Bailout Nobody Knows
And banks don't just need protection from their own criminality. They also need protection from their own lousy management. Their balance sheets are filled with toxic risks from their long run of incompetence, negligence, and greed. That's where you and I come in. Some powerful folks are afraid the banks will fail if they're forced to write off the bad loans on their books, or to stop profiting from loans sold deceptively or irresponsibly.
TARP may be over, but there's another massive bank rescue going on. Who's funding it? We are. Every time we pay a usurious interest fee on a credit card, we're propping up the banks. Every time we make another month's payment on an underwater mortgage, we're propping them up too. Every time we pay an overpriced consumer loan of any kind, we're making another payment into the consumer-funded bailout that's keeping the big banks afloat.
It would be great if politicians in Washington stopped using American consumers to subsidize banks that shouldn't even exist. But they haven't. That's where "Occupy Our Homes" comes in.
Occupy Our Homes
Tuesday, December 6, has been declared a National Day of Action to Occupy Our Homes . Its goal is to focus attention on the corrupt banking practices that led to the mortgage boom and today's ongoing economic misery for most of the 99 percent.
It's also a day for helping people in our communities who have been victimized by predatory lending, criminal bank forgery, unfair or illegal foreclosure practices, and other bank abuses that victimize the public. Occupy Minnesota has already occupied an illegally-foreclosed home, and plans to do the same thing with another home tomorrow. Here in Los Angeles, where an inspiring victory has already taken place, OccupyLA will help two brave families re-occupy their illegally foreclosed homes .
One of those homes belongs to a three-earner family that includes a gainfully employed woman with cerebral palsy named Ana Wison. Ana's household clearly seems capable of making its mortgage payments, but her bank's foreclosing anyway. And in one of ironies that have become all too common, the bank in quesion is none other than that Mexican drug cartel money-laundering outfit, Wells Fargo.
The Occupy movement hopes to focus the public's attention on people like Ana Wison. In the words of the Dylan song : "Things should start to get interesting right around now."
Demonizing the Victim
Resisting illegal foreclosures is a good first step. It brings attention to Wall Street's criminality, venality, and plain old inhumanity toward the people they call their"customers" - but treat like serfs.
It does something else important: It counteracts the brainwashing, driven by Wall Street and dutifully echoed by the media, which has demonized the victims of bank misbehavior. (We were trying to fight that brainwashing back in 2008, without much luck.) The Occupy movement has already won several battles in that war. If the public's attention can now be focused on people like Ana Wison, that can be a powerful blow against the Wall Street/corporate media "they deserve it" hype.
What about the millions of people who have suffered because of the banks' predatory mortgage lending but aren't behind in payments or in the foreclosure process? We need to re-open the debate about the fairness of forcing any underwater homeowners to pay underwater principal on homes that their banks knew, or should have known, were going to decrease in value. After all, the same conglomeration of banks and corporate media that demonize homeowners as "greedy" and "irresponsible" spent most of the last twenty years convincing people that real estate was a sure-fire investment.
Banks made an extraordinary amount of money off the bubble they created. The total mortgage amount outstanding in this country went from $6.2 trillion in 2002 to $11.9 trillion in 2009, a meteoric rise. And while banks feed off the Federal Reserve's unusually low rates, they've renegotiating very few home loans.
Consumers also owe nearly three quarter of a trillion dollars in credit card debt, much of it being paid at unconscionable rates of 12 percent to 29 percent - while their banks enjoy rates from 0 percent to 3 percent, thanks to the government institutions created by those same consumers.
Occupy Our Homes. Occupy Our Credit Cards. Occupy Our Payday Lending ...
What will happen if consumers stopped blaming themselves? What if they demanded that the banks take responsibility for their irresponsible and/or predatory lending? What if they refused to stop this country's perverse economic role reversal, where customers have become the ATMs while banks keep making the withdrawals?
If 10% of America's homeowners declared a mortgage strike it would rock the banking world. If everybody paying exorbitant credit card interest declared a moratorium on payments all at once, Wall Street would change forever.
Think about it: "Occupy ALL Our Homes." "Occupy Our Credit Cards ... Our Payday Loans ... Our Buy-and-Drive Loans ..." I'm not saying these are necessarily the right tactics, although they very well may be. But what's most important is that we understand that consumers have far more power than we usually realize - provided we act together.
Many of Washington's leaders will cringe at the thought, of course. "That could hurt our biggest banks," they say. It would be tempting to reply, You say that like it's a bad thing. Here's a better response: Then start planning to break them up in an orderly fashion. We're done living a life of indentured servitude just so we can subsidize their greed.
Those are the discussions that we should be having. If powerful people on Wall Street and in Washington aren't worried about Occupy Our Homes , they're not paying attention. But with any luck, they soon will.

Today's daily dose of wingnuttery was so rich I hardly know where to begin, so I'll just dive in. We begin with Pat Robertson, who is very, very worried about President Obama's visit to Indonesia.
Via Right Wing Watch : >
Robertson: You know Lee the thing that somehow concerns me, they say he’s going back to the place that he spent his childhood, he spent four years in Indonesia, I don’t know if he was trained in a madrassa, one of those Muslim schools, but nevertheless that is his inclination. His father was a Kenyan socialist and he talks about the roots of his father. So he’s got an African and an Indonesian background. I don’t know what his mother was doing; she just sort of flitted around. But nevertheless, this may give him a warped perspective of what needs to be done to make America the greatest nation on earth.
Yes, of course. The President is going back to the country where he spent a few childhood years. Funny how Robertson never thinks about whether those childhood years were as great as he thinks they were, because you know, every 9-year old looks back with fondness on local children pelting him with rocks for being a black guy, after all.
Pat Robertson, king of the smarmy insinuation, pandering to the Christian loyalists waiting to lap it all up.

Rick Perry says President Obama, the son of a teen mother who frequently was absent from his life and often was stretched financially, grew up the easy way. It’s the latest in a series of winks at conspiracy-minded conservatives deeply suspicious about the president’s background.
Perry’s comments came as he discussed his new ad attacking Obama for saying US policymakers have grown “lazy” about honing America’s competitive edge, a comment that Republicans have inaccurately suggested was aimed at American workers. Asked by FOX News host Sean Hannity about the spot, Perry launched into a highly personal attack on Obama.
“It reveals to me that he grew up in a privileged way,” he said. “He never had to really work for anything.”
He added that “we need a president who has been through their ups and downs in life, and understands what it’s like to have to deal with the issues in our economy that we have today in America.”
Why that dirty, lowdown, food-stamp sucking President! Rick Perry's going to set the record straight about him, because you know, those poor folks just don't ever work for anything. They just wait for the government to hand it to them, right?
Finally, we have Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood editor-in-chief, John Nolte spewing a series of tweets hoping for violence against OWS protesters.

Reform School Vs. New Kids On The Block - "You Got It (The Right Stuff)"
[LESS INFO] 5 VIEWS | ADDED 05:04:12 09/04/11
It's another rewind for the girls this week as they take a look at a early video from New Kids On The Block for their song "You Got It (The Right Stuff)."e
The New Kids on the Block were formed in the early 1980s when songwriter Maurice Star went looking to form a "white version of New Edition." He first found Donnie Wahlberg, who recommended his younger brother Mark and his friend Danny Wood. The trio convinced Jordan and Jonathan Knight to join us as well, and the quintet was born.
The NKOTB's second album "Hangin' Tough" was released in 1988, and by the early part of 1989, thanks to heavy video play on MTV, "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" was a sudden hit. It reached #1 on both the British and Australian charts, and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Before the year was over, the album would climb to #1 on Billboard, and go platinum 8 times.
"Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh" was a refrain that you couldn't avoid in 1989. It was everywhere.
So how do Martina and Jackie like this one?
"They're so little! What year was this? I'm so used to seeing them now..."
"This is soooo 80s. Look at the ripped pants in the back."
"Here's what's missing in so many music videos today - choreography. That's what music videos were all about back then."
"Now it's all storylines and plots - which is good, but I feel like if you're watching a video for the fun of it, you want it to just be dancing and singing."
"They're so hot - with their little leather jackets!"
They gave the video a "C" overall. As Martina put it, "Kinda blah. Sorry."

My Thoughts On A WOMAN SAYS A 3D PORNO MADE HER PREGNANT (MY REVIEW)
[LESS INFO] 43 VIEWS | ADDED 09:11:52 08/09/11
"An American woman claims she became pregant after watching a 3D porno. US military man Erick Jhonson came home from a stint in Iraq to find that his wife was pregnant. Clearly he assumed she had an affair, but his wife Jennifer claims the other man was actually someone a little less physical. It seems he actually buys her story, however. I see it as suspicious. The films in 3D are very real. With todays technology, anything is possible, he said. What's even more interesting is that both Jennifer and Erick are white, but the child is black. Jeniffer claims the kid looks like the black pornstar she had been ogling. She also claims this was one of the first times she's watched porn and only went with friends for the 3D effect. TechEye did a survey of one person and found 100 percent would say the same thing in a similar situation Even though my husband believed in me, my marriage could be at risk, Jennifer said. But he knows Im faithful. It just shows you what joining the military does to your head. Jennifer explained that a month after watching the movie, I started feeling dizzy and the results were positive. That must have been one good porno. 3D movies have gained renewed popularity since Avatar, but there have been some concerns raised over how bad they may be for your eyes. Now you'll have to worry about conceiving in the cinema. You may have jumped when an object in film was thrown at the camera, but now you'll have to be careful of other, far more uncouth things flying at you. TechEye recommends contraception for your next trip to the cinema. You never know."

BORN IN THE USA?
A conservative group that thinks President Obama is lying about being born in the United States unveiled what it claims is shocking new evidence today. A kindergarten picture, painted by a then four year old Obama, shows a man, or possibly a woman, standing next to what appears to be a zebra, or a painted horsey. “Ain’t no zebras in Hawaii,” said Birther leader Harvey Darnel. “So clearly, he must have been born in Africa.” There was no immediate comment from the Whitehouse.
SHAKE RATTLE AND DEATH TOLL
An American businessman suffered a slight shin-bruise after a devastating earthquake rocked the country of Chad earlier today. A spokesman for the embassy says Orly Fast from Iowa, will be medivac’ed state-side later today. The spokesman added that the trip the airport could be dicey, but he hopes the toppled buildings, dead bodies and scores of refugees won’t upset Mr. Fast, who’s frankly, a bit shaken by the recent events.
LADY GAGA'S MOM FIRES BACK AT SINGER
Lady Gaga’s mother had some strong words for her daughter today, even as her hit song, “Born This Way” continues to climb the charts. “She most certainly wasn’t born like that,” said too-literal Gaga Momma Cynthia Bissett. “Can you imagine something that spiking coming out of anyone’s vagina? With that stuff in her hair, she could perform her own C-Section.”

DW-TV: Hanna von Hoerner is certainly an exceptional woman - but what about today's career women? What chances do they have in a corporate world? Let's discuss this question with Heiner Thorborg who is an executive search consultant and headhunter. How often is it that you place women in jobs over men, and for what positions? Heiner Thorborg: Still relatively seldom because there aren't so many obvious choices around and there are far more men than women. However my clients repeatedly ask for female candidates so it's up to the search profession to change methodology, to change approach and to really look for good, capable, qualified women. DW-TV: How big a role does gender play when hunting / looking for the right person to fill a vacancy? Heiner Thorborg: Absolutely because the pressure has become so hot over the last couple of years. The quota is right around the corner. Europe talks about a quota, the German government is still reluctant but the quota is there. So they understand, they got the message. Now they're changing and they really look actively for women. When you talk about supervisory boards, whenever a seat becomes available, it's going to be filled by a woman. DW-TV: Here in Germany we are currently experiencing a heated debate about whether or not to introduce a gender quota - I take it you are against such a quota - why? Heiner Thorborg: Definitely against it. Because a quota means force. You're forcing either the woman into these positions and maybe they don't want it sometimes. Or you have to force males out and in a free economy that to me is a no-no. DW-TV: But so far very few women made it to the top in German DAX companies. How else can you deal with that situation if not using force like a quota? Heiner Thorborg: Well you don't have a quota in the active management board anywhere in the world. Nowhere. Norway is always cited as an example but we only talk about the board of non-executive directors, not executive directors. Because at that level - executive directors - it's almost impossible to force it onto the company and to increase the women's share to 10, 15, 20, 30 percent. So no. DW-TV: Okay. So no quota but some kind of force or incentive. Heiner Thorborg, thank you very much for joining us. (Interview: Monika Jones)

Alleyne & Temus talk about the meaning behind the song "Fingers & Toes (Dontae's Theme)" from their latest album PUSH "The song is about how hip hop has changed so much over the years. It went from being underground to being pop. This generation is different from the generation Temus and I grew up in. Through this song, our album and others like us we can bring the real hip-hop back...if not for this generation the next one... Enter Dontae, Temus' son. His birth represents a new beginning, a new path so check his fingers and his toes and let's hope that he grows...that's pretty much the meaning behind the name of the song." - Christopher Rudder Fingers & Toes (Dontae's Theme) LYRICS (Temus) For 2009, everybody still looking for a chance to shine but I just had a son and I'm feeling fine, economic times got me on the grind. Our Studio Guest is Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Daimler AG CEO
[LESS INFO] 29 VIEWS | ADDED 22:30:00 01/25/11
What was the driving force behind the development of the automobile - its symbolizing freedom and passion or a desire for high speeds? How important are the pioneering achievements of the early days today? What visions does our guest have for the car of tomorrow? What about electric-powered cars and how healthy is the German car industry?DW-TV: And here is the man who's in the driver's seat at Daimler and also he's the head of Mercedes Benz, - Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche. Thanks for having us here and you're already standing here with the prototype. What's so revolutionary about this three-wheel?" Dieter Zetsche: Well first of all it's the first vehicle with a combustion engine being propelled by itself. On top of that Carl Benz had the intention to invent a new vehicle with the combustion engine. Whereas Gottlieb Daimler used existing vehicles like a carriage and just added an engine. He did the same with a rowing boat for instance or even something like a zeppelin. DW-TV: So both clever ideas -- a different approach. And it was a woman who made the car popular. Beate Benz we saw that in the report. Because people didn't really embrace the idea of the car. Why? Dieter Zetsche: First of all she had the courage to use it on a longer distance for the first time as women are typically more courageous. On top of it in the beginning people were just afraid. They were afraid that the engine could explode that they could crash into something else. Even the German Emperor was convinced that the horse would forever dominate. He was wrong, especially on this point. DW-TV: As we know now. A lot has changed over the last 125 years. What drives the industry? Dieter Zetsche: All the tremendous advantages automobiles offer. Starting with a higher degree of freedom -- of going to where you want to go. On top of that lots of emotion going around the car. So its a rational and an emotional product and that's probably the tremendous reason for the success. DW-TV: Is this something you can relate to personally? Dieter Zetsche: For sure. You're not surprised by that I guess. I like the idea of being able to do what I want when I want as far as location is concerned. I very much enjoy driving and I have a private place where I can behave and do what I want to do in public. That is a very nice situation. DW-TV: Freedom of course comes at a price. People have to be able to afford a car. The financial crisis was felt in the car industry worldwide. But business is picking up again. Even gas guzzlers sell well again in the United States. Why is that are people just ignoring financial reasons? Dieter Zetsche: Well they have recovered financially. Our customers just lost the mood to buy a car. They still had the money. Meanwhile they have both back. Things are looking much better going forward. And on top of that emerging markets are developing extremely fast, the automotive markets, and that's another big reason why the industry's recovering fast. DW-TV: Emotions run high when it comes to cars. Mr Zetsche that was the case with these Sliver Arrows here. Beautiful cars here. Are they silver for a certain reason? Dieter Zetsche: Just before a race was started Mr Neubauer figured that the car was too heavy. So he came to the great idea to just scratch the paint from the car. And up came the aluminum which was silver obviously. And that was the birth of the Silver Arrows. DW-TV: A legendary car that was also very fast. Cars were about speed for a long time. Then safety. Now it's the environment. And actually your museum is preparing a new display dedicated to emission free mobility. Hydrogen, e-cars. What exactly have you planned? Dieter Zetsche: At the forefront of this development of reinventing the car, there is not one silver bullet but we have to pursue different technologies. Electric cars will be the main theme. But it can be energy storage in batteries or hydrogen for a fuel-cell car. DW-TV: When you say you're driving this invention now, how do you explain the criticism that comes from many sides that the German car industry, including Daimler, is lagging behind when it comes to these cars? Dieter Zetsche: Well once in a while there is criticism that is not well founded. Actually we were basically the first to have already three years ago 100 Smart electric cars in Berlin. And already producing now the third generation of electric cars for the Smart. We have the fuel cell car already in production, 200 units this year. We're at the forefront and not lagging. DW-TV: But there's competition now from other industries including utilities now when it comes to the electric car. What do you make of that? Dieter Zetsche: Well we have to work together. It's about infrastructure, it's about the energy which has to become CO2-free which is not the case in general today. So we need new co-operations different from the past and therefore it's good they join the party. DW-TV: One way forward. Each show we ask our viewers to ask or answer a question, to tell us something. This time they ask a question which we would like to ask you in return. The question comes from Rajsh Nath, Calcutta, emerging market India of course. And he wants to know Mr Zetsche many foreign and domestic car companies see India as a market mainly for smaller cars. So does Daimler plan to introduce a smaller car in India? Dieter Zetsche: Not smaller than the cars we're offering in other parts of the world. We have compact cars and the C-Class already industrlaized in India since many years. And we are very successful there so we serve the premium market. Interview: Monika Jones

Pope Benedict declares pedophilia was 'normal' back in the '70s

You can watch the entire movie here.
There must be something very wrong at the Vatican. The Pope's new scapegoat for the Church's sex abuse scandal is the 1970s.
Belfast Telegraph: >
Victims of clerical sex abuse have reacted furiously to Pope Benedict's claim yesterday that paedophilia wasn't considered an “absolute evil” as recently as the 1970s. In his traditional Christmas address yesterday to cardinals and officials working in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI also claimed that child pornography was increasingly considered “normal” by society. “In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said.
“It was maintained — even within the realm of Catholic theology — that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a ‘better than' and a ‘worse than'. Nothing is good or bad in itself.”
The Pope said abuse revelations in 2010 reached “an unimaginable dimension” which brought “humiliation” on the Church... read on
I watched this gut wrenching documentary last night called Deliver Us From Evil , about a serial pedo-rapist that the Catholic Church enabled for three decades. I cried along with Mr. Jyono, who thought Father O'Grady was a friend to his family only to find out after O'Grady was arrested in another county that he had raped his daughter for seven years. Clearly the Church covered it up, as video testimony shows, and instead of dealing with the problem, sent him out of town so he could hunt for new victims. It would be as if the Attorney General of California, after arresting Ted Bundy for being a serial killer, decided to give him a bus ticket to Iowa and told him to just stay away from girls -- while the AG then offered support with prayers to Bundy and maybe even a pension plan if kept quiet. What would Ted do?
I've been covering the child abuse cases that have been revealed in recent times along with finding out the Vatican and their hierarchy , instead of acting like the moral authority they claim to be, covered up the hundreds of abusers and actually allowed them to destroy future families for decades. And so much of this happened under Cardinal Raztinger's (Pope Benedict XVI) watch . >
The office led by Cardinal Ratzinger, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , had actually been given authority over sexual abuse cases nearly 80 years earlier, in 1922, documents show and canon lawyers confirm. But for the two decades he was in charge of that office, the future pope never asserted that authority, failing to act even as the cases undermined the church’s credibility in the United States, Australia, Ireland and elsewhere.
Bishop Geoffrey Robinson, an outspoken auxiliary bishop emeritus from Sydney, Australia, who attended the secret meeting in 2000, said that despite numerous warnings, top Vatican officials, including Benedict, took far longer to wake up to the abuse problems than many local bishops did.
Digby writes: >
I'm fairly sure that pedophilia was considered an absolute evil in the 1970s. It was just covered up --- mostly because of institutions like the Church which made even the thought of sex so shameful that even innocent victims of abuse were afraid to admit it. But whatever "context" he's thinking of, in normal society sexual exploitation of children wasn't part of it except on society's fringe (just as it is today among certain fundamentalist sects .)
{}
There are many examples of our leadership and elite institutions and leadership failing, but I think this one is the best example. When even the Church that has made human sexuality a purely procreative necessity within sanctioned marriage is making excuses for pedophilia among its priests because of "the times" then it's fairly clear that any institution can be thoroughly corrupted to its very core. It tends to create just a little mistrust among the people.
You can see why blowhard Catholic sex-abuse apologists like Bill Donohue are around. To him, these child molesters weren't even pedophiles. They make plenty of cash off of doing their best to beat back any criticism directed at the Church.
