Pajaro Valley Teachers Challenge District’s Bargaining “Teacher, speak out!”, the Community TV series featuring education news and opinion from the teachers’ perspective, examines the contentious and by all accounts unproductive labor negotiations in its latest episode. Titled “A Passionate Impasse,” the episode will premiere New Years Day, Friday at 5:30 PM on cable channels 25 and 71 followed by a repeat Monday at 7:30 PM. Panel members, including union negotiators and classroom teachers, challenge the district’s candor relative to available funds, reviving the Nixon-era theme, “What did they know, and when did they know it?” Joining producer and moderator Peter Nichols on the panel are: Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers President Francisco Rodriquez, Chief Negotiator Jack Carroll, and Kindergarten Teachers Mamiche Young from Freedom Elementary and Karen Richmond of Valencia Elementary. The seventh episode of the on-going series demonstrates the producers’ commitment to an enhanced viewer experience with new theme music, upgraded production values and increased graphic support. Nichols claims this is the series’ most elaborate production to date. “Teacher, speak out!” is a co-production of Peter Nichols and the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers. Upcoming shows will probe drop out prevention and recovery, the devastating cuts to adult education, and the over-reliance on high-stakes testing.
