Tennis Great Roger Federer Recieves Death Threat in Shanghai
The world's number one ranked tennis player, Roger Federer, is in Shanghai for next week's Shanghai Masters tournament. But the Swiss tennis great and his family are on alert after he received an online death threat. A Chinese blogger, who goes by "Blue Cat Polytheistic Religion Founder 07", wrote, "On October 6, I plan to assassinate Federer for the purpose of tennis extermination." The user also photoshopped an image of Federer decapitated, next to a masked executioner holding an axe. Tournament organizers have increased security for Federer and his family who is there with him. Tournament director Yang Yibin wrote to the Shanghai Youth Daily, saying security has been stepped up for Mr. Federer and his family. Attacks on tennis stars have happened before. In 1993, the then world number one tennis player, Monica Seles, was stabbed in the back during the break between games in the Citizen Cup tournament in Hamburg, Germany. Congressmen Urge Clinton To Release Information on Forced Organ Harvesting in China
There are more calls for the United States government to act over allegations that the Chinese regime has engaged in illegal forced organ harvesting. This time, the call is coming from US lawmakers. This week, 106 members of the US Congress co-signed this letter. They're asking the State Department to release any information it has on the forced organ harvesting allegations. That includes any information Wang Lijun, the former police chief of Chongqing, may have given to US officials after he fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu. The letter comes less than one month after a Congressional Hearing on the subject on September 12. During that hearing, a former prisoner of conscience, medical doctors and a published author presented evidence suggesting that the Chinese Communist Party has been killing tens of thousands of religious and political dissidents for their organs. Victims identified in the letter include Uighurs, Tibetans, House Christians, and practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual practice. In particular, the bi-partisan letter mentions claims that Wang Lijun may have given information to US consulate officials about the harvesting of organs from still living Falun Gong practitioners. Dr. Erping Zhang, the spokesman for the Falun Dafa Information Center, says it's significant that so many Congress members have given their support, and the US government should reveal what it knows. The Japanese government proposed the expanded forum. It came one day after meetings between members of ASEAN. 10 countries including China, the US, India and South Korea joined the discussions on Friday. The keynote speaker, Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Koji Tsuruoka, said regional co-operation was paramount in resolving maritime territorial disputes. While not directly mentioning its own rift over the Diaoyu or Senkaku Islands with China, Tsuruoka stressed the importance of settling such disputes under international maritime laws. [Koji Tsuruoka, Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister] "It is indispensable for any party concerned to resolve disputes over territories in a peaceful manner based on international law. In this case, all parties should clarify their territorial claims in accordance to international law." The Chinese regime has not specified what its multimillion-dollar maritime cooperation offer would be used for ... From: NTDTV Views: 203 2 ratings Time: 01:39 More in News & Politics

High-tech Gravestones Scannable with Smartphones
Your loved ones may be buried, but a new technology is ensuring they won't be forgotten. Austrian-based company Aspetos is using scannable gravestone codes, so anyone with a Smartphone and proper authorization - can unlock the memories of a person's past. Aspeto's Joerg Bauer says these codes can display everything from anecdotes to eulogies. [Joerg Bauer, Spokesman for Aspetos]: "It was developed to help people in grief. From a psychological standpoint, at the same time we know that memory - not departure - is the most important thing in that respect." QR or Quick Response codes are mostly used in marketing and advertising, but special etching technology called grit blasting, is ensuring the codes and the memories last more than a lifetime. World's Tallest Skyscraper Being Built With Toy Blocks
This is the concept art for what could become the world's tallest building. And it's being made the same way your old Meccano or Lego toys were. The Chinese construction firm Broad Sustainable Building is using pre-fabricated components that are slotted to fit together. UK media The Telegraph reports that the company has set an unbelievable construction schedule of only 7 months. To put that into context, Dubai's Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world at over 1 mile high, took 6 years to build. When completed, the 220-story building will have schools, a hospital, 17 helipads and apartments for over 30000 people. CEO Zhang Yue, an ardent environmentalist who made his estimated $1.2 billion fortune in air conditioning, says his construction methods save time, uses less steel and concrete, and is the next step in his goal to make China greener. But he isn't stopping there. Once this building is done, he plans to top it with an even taller one, a one-and-a-quarter-mile high 636-floor skyscraper. Four Tibetans Jailed for Self-Immolation Reporting
You would think that a Chinese citizen burning himself alive in public would be newsworthy%mdashor at least, that it would not be considered a "state secret." Yet that's exactly what the authorities are calling it. According to Radio Free Asia, Four Tibetans have been imprisoned in China for their attempts to spread word of self-immolation protests. The burnings are in protest against perceived Chinese abuses in Tibet. Now it seems authorities are seeking to censor the trend, by any means necessary. Courts in Sichuan Province sentenced 19-year-old Lobsang Tsultrim and 17-year-old Lobsang Jangchub, to 11 and eight years in prison respectively associating with a self-immolating monk. Another court in Sichuan, meanwhile, sentenced two Tibetans in their twenties, Lobsang Tashi and Bu Thupdor, to over seven years in prison just for sending information about the burning protests to foreign contacts. The two men were convicted of "revealing state secrets." Hong Kong Golden Week Purchases Down
It's Golden Week in China now, a time when many mainland tourists venture to Hong Kong to buy luxury goods for less. Chinese purchase everything from luxury clothing and watches to other tech purchases. But according to Joseph Tung of the Travel Industry Council, spending is down ten percent from last year, although the number of tourists arriving in Hong Kong is increasing. Tung estimates that tourists will spend about five to six thousand Hong Kong dollars this year, or about 650 to 750 US dollars. It's down from seven to eight thousand Hong Kong dollars last year. Bloomberg News reports that retail sales on the island are at their slowest pace since the onset of the global financial crisis. Sales were up about 4.5 percent in value for August, but economists expected it to increase by 5.8 percent. Golden Week ends on Sunday. Psy Surprised at "Gangnam Style" Success at Seoul Press Conference
Psy expresses surprise at the success of "Gangnam Style" and says his song "doesn't have much meaning", referring to the abundant media analysis of the video clip. Full script: The kpop song "Gangnam Style" is making world records as the first Korean pop song to make it big worldwide. It's left many, including the artist himself, more than a little surprised. Psy spoke at a press conference in Seoul about the first moment he realized how huge it was becoming. [Psy, Kpop Rapper]: "At that point I was wow what's happening right now?" At the same time, he thinks the song has been overanalyzed - seen as a parody of wealthy Korean's lifestyle. [Psy, Kpop Rapper]: "You know suddenly this song became this big and I got a lot of questions about what this song is about but it's kind of embarrassing but let me say, it doesn't have any meaning actually. I'm just staying Gangnam Style, Gangnam Style, Gangnam Style, which doesn't have that much meaning. It's about some lady and some guys; "dress classy, dance cheesy" or whatever." Psy will be busy in South Korea with work lined up on commercials, a TV program and the F1 Grand Prix. He says he's working with his manager Scooter Braun to focus on publicity in the US and plans to visit US fans there in mid-November.
