PSG to Open Champions League Against Dynamo
PSG train ahead of Champions League match against Dynamo Kiev. Full Story: Paris Saint-Germain trained on Monday, getting ready for its first match in the group stage of the Champions League. The French club opens up against Dynamo Kiev at home on Tuesday, with people wondering if the expensive signings will pay off in the Champions League after a slow start to the season. PSG spent some 160 million euros on new players this season, including much on Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Brazilian Thiago Silva, signed from AC Milan along with Ibrahimovic, is expected to make his debut on Tuesday. The center back signed for 47 million euros, but has out since suffering an injury at the Olympic Games. PSG is expected to win Group A, which also features Liga Sagres champions Porto and Dinamo Zagreb. China's Navy Flexing its Muscle in East China Sea
China's People's Liberation Army has been conducting live ammunition drills in the East China Sea during the last week. The fleet's main forces, including dozens of warships, fighter aircraft, submarines and missile units, carried out 16 combat training programs ranging from anti-missile techniques to searching for and attacking submarines, according to a captain of one of the warships. This is in response to the Japanese government signing a contract last Tuesday to purchase the Diaoyu or Senkaku Islands, although there is a dispute as to who is the true owner of the islands. The disputed group of islands, known as Diaoyu in China or Senkaku in Japan, are part of an untapped and extremely rich natural resource. While China claims to have indisputable sovereignty over them, due to historical reasons, they are under Japanese control. BASE Jumpers Dive from World's Longest Suspension Bridge in China
Sunday's BASE jump form the Aizhai Bridge was the largest BASE jumping event in Asia. It attracted over 40 people from 13 different countries including Germany, Great Britain, China, and Spain. BASE jumping became popular in the early 1980's when Carl Boenish filmed the first base jump in Yosemite National Park. BASE is an acronym that stands for: Buildings, Antennas, Spans, (or bridges) and Earth (or cliffs). It requires jumping from any of these, pulling a parachute at the last second. Jumpers are evaluated and scored based on the poses and stunts that they do in mid flight. BASE jumping is considered an extreme sport that is not for the faint hearted. Although securities are in place to break these divers' fall, the sport is still dangerous. This jumper from Canada lost his ability to walk eight years ago after jumping from over one-thousand feet and missing the landing pad. [Lonnie Bissonnette, Canadian BASE jumper]: "I didn't know. I had some problems with this strap. It was too short. So I fought a lot to try to get this strap to connect here for the landing. And by the time I finished fighting with the strap it was too far away for the landing pad, so I had to land in a good spot over there." Fortunately, no one was hurt during this Sunday's BASE jump from the Aizhai bridge. US and China File Coinciding WTO Complaints
As the US Presidential elections are heating up, China is becoming a central topic. On the campaign trail on Monday, US President Barack Obama said he would go after China for unfair trade practices, mostly centered on the auto industry. President Obama made the announcement in Ohio, one of the centers of US auto manufacturing and a key battleground in the upcoming US presidential elections. It also comes after repeated accusations that Obama has been soft on China by presidential contender Mitt Romney. Just hours after the US President announced his plans to take action against China at the World Trade Organization, Beijing moved first, filing its own complaint against the US. The Chinese regime is challenging the countervailing duties that the US imposes on Chinese goods. The US enacted the anti-dumping laws earlier this year, targeting countries like China that are deemed as "non-market economies." According to the Washington Post, the challenge from China's Ministry of Commerce covers goods worth around 7.2 billion US dollars, and includes things like tires, paper, kitchen appliances and wood flooring. Later, the United States filed its trade complaint. It accuses China of providing at least $1 billion worth of illegal subsidies from 2009 to 2011 for exports of cars and car parts. This is the third complaint this year that the Obama administration has filed against China at the WTO. For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add ... US Defense Chief Urges Calm in China-Japan Conflict
US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta arrived in Beijing earlier today. The United States is urging Japan and China to settle their increasingly angry dispute over islands claimed by both sides, saying it's in everyone's interests to have good relations between Asia's two biggest economies. The dispute between Japan and China is over a group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. It has led to violent attacks on well-known Japanese businesses such as carmakers Toyota and Honda, forcing frightened expatriates into hiding and sending relations between the two countries into crisis. [Leon Panetta, US Defense Secretary]: "We're concerned by the conflict that is taking place over the Senkaku Islands, and the message that I've tried to convey is a message that we have to urge calm and restraint on all sides." The dispute over the islands%mdashcalled Senkaku by Japan and Diaoyu by China%mdashintensified last week when China sent six surveillance ships to the region, believed to have potentially large gas reserves. Panetta said the United States would stand by its security treaty obligations to Japan, but will not take sides in the row. [Leon Panetta, US Defense Secretary]: "It's in everybody's interest, it is in everybody's interest, for Japan and China to maintain good relations and to find a way to avoid further escalation." Panetta arrived today after visiting Tokyo on Sunday. His stay in China has been extended by a day to allow for a meeting with future Chinese leader Xi Jinping ... Chinese Riots Escalate Amidst Growing Tensions
Demonstrations continued outside the Japanese embassy in Beijing on Monday, after two days of often violent protests that swept across China. Protesters are angry over Japan's purchase of the disputed Senkaku or Diaoyu islands last week. Police used pepper spray, tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters, who turned on police and began attacking them. But not everyone supported the escalation of violence by Chinese citizens over the weekend. [Liu, Lawyer]: "This happened because the Japanese caused the problem, because Japan did such incomprehensible things, so Chinese people are expressing their feelings of patriotism and their fury towards the Japanese is understandable, and necessary. But some people within the protests were violently beating, smashing and looting which is bad for our own countrymen." With many protesters calling for China to declare war on Japan, others were hoping for a peaceful resolution. [Sui Qiwen, Retiree:] "I support Chinese people protesting our country's position, and I support our country sending out a tough message. But we don't want to see a war, or other unnecessary actions, and hope that we can maintain the peace we have built over such a long time. We have to give Japan a serious warning." On Sunday, more than 10000 protesters surrounded a Chinese owned hotel in Guanzhou that hosts the Japanese consulate. The Communist Party, who rarely allows street demonstrations, appeared to be treating protesters lightly, as hotel signs were ... From: NTDTV Views: 31 3 ratings Time: 02:52 More in News & Politics

Xi Jinping's Resurfacing Quells Rumors
Xi Jinping, who's tipped to become the next leader of China's ruling Communist Party, ended days of speculation on Saturday, after appearing in public in Beijing since going missing earlier this month. State-run Xinhua News Agency issued a brief report in English with a photograph showing Xi attending an event at the China Agricultural University. Prior to his public appearance, there had been no official mention of Xi for two weeks. It sent the rumor mills flying on China's internet, with speculations about his health, and even an assassination attempt. Xi appeared to be well on Saturday. Xi Jinping's unexplained absence also raised questions about the current state of the Communist Party leadership, which is in the midst of a tough political crisis ahead of a power transition. NTD's senior China analyst, Wen Zhao, says Xi's appearance will quell some of those concerns. [Wen Zhao, NTD Senior China Analyst] "By showing him in public, and attending events, [the Communist Party] is trying to show that he is still healthy, and there are no issues with him taking over as the next leader. They want to calm people's heart and pave the way for a smooth 18th Party Congress." Now that he's back, Xi will meet with visiting US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. He's also slated to attend an event at the 9th China-ASEAN expo later this month. Beijing has not given an explanation for Xi's absence. This official secrecy is drawing unease in the international community over the lack of ... From: NTDTV Views: 15 0 ratings Time: 01:44 More in News & Politics

Wang Lijun Tried in Secret, One Day Ahead of Schedule
Wang Lijun, the former police chief of Chongqing, was put on trial in secret today, one day before his publicly announced trial date. Several western media, including the Telegraph and the Associated Press, have cited interviews with Wang's lawyer, who said Monday's hearing was for charges involving state secrets, charges of defection and bending the law for personal gains. The secret trial took only a few hours, according to Wang's lawyer Wang Yuncai, no relation. She says the remainder of the charges against Wang%mdashtaking bribes and abuse of power%mdashwould be heard on Tuesday. Wang Lijun unveiled the shaky inner workings of the Communist Party when he fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu in February. It was the first in a chain of events that saw the downfall of the once powerful politician Bo Xilai. Bo's wife, Gu Kailai, was convicted last month of murdering British businessman Neil Heywood. Wang's secret hearing on Monday involved his alleged cover up of that murder. State-run media had earlier reported Wang's trial would be open. The BBC reported today that foreign journalists would not be given access to the proceedings on Tuesday. It is almost certain Wang would be found guilty of his charges. State-run Xinhua had reported that evidence against him was "clear and abundant". Attention will now be directed to how the Communist Party leadership deals with Wang's former boss Bo Xilai. He was sacked as the Party Secretary of Chongqing and kicked out of the 25-member Politburo ... From: NTDTV Views: 21 2 ratings Time: 01:40 More in News & Politics

Berdych happy to end Argentina's at-home winning streak as he leads Czechs into Davis Cup final. Full story: Tomas Berdych lead the Czech Republic into the Davis Cup final, beating Carlos Berlocq in three sets on Sunday, setting up a matchup against Spain. 6th ranked in the world, Berdych had little trouble, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 and ending Argentina's at-home winning streak. [Tomas Berdych, Czech Tennis Player]: "I'm extremely happy for me, for my team, for the Czech Republic, for all the people who are at least with us, thinking of us. We made it. The fourteen years of the winning streak of Argentina at home is pretty long time and we are the first who made it so it's just incredible and I'm extremely happy to go for the final." Argentina's chances of making its second consecutive final faded quickly. Juan Martin del Potro, world number eight, could not play Sunday's match. He beat Radek Stepanek on Friday, but the match aggravated a wrist injury. David Nalbandian, an Argentine team leader for years, was also absent with an abdominal injury. Tomas won all three points for the czech, beating Juan Monaco on Friday in five sets, and winning in three in doubles with Stepanek. Argentine captain Martin Jaite expressed that they had to look ahead. [Martin Jaite, Argentina Captain]: "We are sad but, truthfully, things don't end here. China Focus - Were Chinese Authorities Behind Anti-Japan Protests?
The Chinese public has taken up the anti-Japan cause on a massive scale. Tens or even hundreds of thousands of protesters in dozens of cities across the country. They're angry about the Japanese government's announcement last week that it will buy the Senkaku islands%mdashcalled the Senkaku islands in Chinese%mdashfrom their private owners. The islands are in the East China sea, near Taiwan, Japan, and China%mdashand claimed by all three. They're valuable for shipping lanes and fishing%mdashbut it's pretty obvious from this footage that there's more to it than that. As the protests continue, there are reports that Chinese authorities are supporting, or even instigating, the demonstrations. Who's behind the protests, and will they escalate further? UN Expands List Of Syrian War Crimes Suspects
United Nations human rights investigators report a new list of Syrians suspected of committing war crimes. Full Story: United Nations human rights investigators reported on Monday a new list of Syrians suspected of committing war crimes The secret list will be used to prosecute suspects in the future. The independent investigators speak of "an extraordinary body of evidence". [Paulo Pinheiro, Independent Human Rights Investigator]: "We have collected a formidable and extraordinary body of evidence which will remain in the custody of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Information collected, where consent was provided, will be available for future national and international justice mechanisms." The report says that Syrian government forces and allied militia have committed war crimes including murder and torture of civilians, in what appears to be a state-directed policy. [Paulo Pinheiro, Independent Human Rights Investigator]: "A second confidential list of individuals and units believed to be responsible for violations is being provided to the High Commissioner of Human Rights. The Commission considers it improper to publicly release the names due to the lower standard of proof employed by commissions of inquiry as compared to a court of law." Pinheiro did not mention if there were any Syrian rebels on the list. But he did say that the increased presence of Islamist militants in Syria tends to radicalize rebels who have already committed crimes. The ... Hezbollah Call For More Protest Over Anti-Islam Film
As protests against US embassies spread around the Muslim world, we take a deeper look at some of the causes behind the unrest. Full Story: Hezbollah TV shows the head of Lebanon's militant Shia movement calling for more protests against the US Hezbollah is an Islamic militant group based in Lebanon, and is supported financially by Iran and Syria. Demonstrations against US interests have spread around the Muslim world in recent days. This includes Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Yemen, Kashmir, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Jerusalem and the West Bank. The protests are mostly aimed at US embassies, and have been fueled by a crude anti-Islam film made in California. The worst violence was in Libya. The US ambassador and three other staff members were killed when an armed mob stormed the consulate. Evidence has been growing that the attack was pre-planned by Islamist militants. Now US officials have intercepted communications between al-Qaida and the Libya based militant group Ansar al-Sharia. It is thought that the attack was planned for the 11th anniversary of 9/11, using the anti-Islam video as a cover up. Mohamed al-Magariaf, the president of Libya's parliament, says military action may be used against the militants. Outside of Libya, the worst violence was in Sudan, where protesters targeted US, British and German embassies. Prince William, Kate Middleton in Solomon Islands
Prince William plays soccer with some locals while he and Kate tour the Pacific Islands. Full Story: Prince William played soccer with some children of Solomon Islands on Monday, while he and Catherine continued their tour of Asia and the Pacific. The two arrived after exploring Borneo over the weekend, travelling amidst a row over topless photos take of Kate Middleton, published by French magazine Closer. Lawyers for the royal family announced they plan to sue the photographer who took the snaps of the couple sunbathing in a private villa in Provence, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are seeking an injunction against Closer. Despite this, Italian magazine Chi today published more photos from that set. Max Clifford, a British publicity guru, said that the royal family is right to go to court. [Max Clifford, Publicist]: "If they let it die down people would think 'Well, we can get away with this' and maybe other people will be tempted. At least the official message is coming out from the royal family, from William and from Kate: 'We are not happy about this. This is not right, please give us and allow us a little bit of a private life.' So for that reason alone I think they are doing the right thing." The controversy did not make the couple camera-shy.
