Bo Xilai Dismissed From Communist Party
Bo Xilai, the former communist party chief of Chongqing, has been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and is facing criminal charges. That's according to an official announcement posted by state-run Xinhua News Agency. It came on Friday evening before a week-long national holiday. According to Xinhua, Bo committed corruption and abuse of power, took "massive bribes" both directly and through family members. He allegedly violated Party discipline, and had inappropriate sexual relations. Xinhua said the investigation revealed Bo's (quote) "suspected involvement in other crimes," which may mean more charges against Bo when his case goes to trial. The seriousness of the accusations against Bo surprised some on the streets of Beijing. [Sun Peizhu, Beijing Resident]: (Male, Mandarin) "I was very surprised. At the beginning, when Bo Xilai led the 'patriotic singing campaign' in Chongqing, I thought he was a really great person. I would never have thought that he would be like that, so I am very surprised." The report also seems to show that the Party's investigation on Bo goes all the way back to his time as mayor of Dalian, governor of Liaoning province, and commerce minister. That's a change from the previous investigations of Bo's right-hand man Wang Lijun and his wife Gu Kailai, which focused on events in Chongqing and the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. According to Xinhua, Bo's expulsion from the Party will be ratified at one of the last meetings of the ... From: NTDTV Views: 67 2 ratings Time: 01:49 More in News & Politics

100-Year-Old Frenchman Makes Cycling Record
A 100-year-old Frenchman completes 300 laps at a cycling track in Lyon, France in record time. He's caught the attention of scientists who want to know the secret to his longevity. Full script: Biking 62 miles in one afternoon would be a challenge for most young people, let alone someone who will be 101 next month. But that's what Robert Marchand achieved this Friday to the amazement of onlookers, and the scientific community. [Robert Marchand, Cyclist]: "Next time, please play some military music. And with military music, one wins." Marchand completed 300 laps at a cycling track in Lyon, France today. And he did it in 4 hours, 17 minutes and 27 seconds. It's a record for a man of his age, according to officials from the French Cycling Federation who were there. Despite the former Fireman's toughness, he did say it was painful. [Robert Marchand, Cyclist]: "What made me suffer the most is the hands and the arms -- they get pins and needles -- and my backside. I've only got skin left." Marchand weighs 112 pounds and says he was a boxing enthusiast in his youth. He now lives alone, drives a car, makes his own meals and cleans his apartment with no help. His uncommon vitality has piqued the interest of scientists who examine Marchand every three months. They are trying to understand the secret to his longevity and wellbeing at 100 years old. Cliff Diving Championship in Oman
Hunt wins Cliff Diving World Series Full script: Cliffdiving is definitely not a pastime for the faint of heart. But it's not just about adrenaline and thrill-seeking, either. And at this year's Cliff Diving World Series, the competing divers show how they have sculpted the sport into an art. Jumping from a height of almost 90 feet, these artists do flips, twists, and somersaults all before hitting the water. Defending champion Gary Hunt just won his third-successive title on Thursday when he won the final stage of the 2012 competitions in Oman. [Gary Hunt, Cliff Diving World Champion]: "It was really the best competition I've ever done. I've never scored over 500 and to do it today when it counts I just can't believe it. I'm still a bit in shock." Five thousand fans watched on as Hunt performed his trademark 'triple quad' dive for a total of 506.85 points. The Brit defeated the nine-time world champion, Orlando Duque, who came in second in Oman, and in the overall championship. NASA's Curiosity Finds First Evidence Of Water On Mars
NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has found clear evidence of water on the Red Planet, scientists report on Thursday. Full story: NASA's rover Curiosity has found clear evidence of water on Mars, scientists reported on Thursday. Analysis of a slab of rock indicates that there was once a fast-moving stream of water. Images taken by Curiosity show rounded stones cemented into the rock. Planetary scientist Rebecca Williams says these stones are too big to have been moved by wind. [Rebecca Williams, Planetary Science Institute, Senior Scientist]: "These gravels that we are seeing here are one, the rounded shape, but also the size. These are too large to be transported by wind. The consensus of the science team is that these are water-transported gravels in a vigorous stream." It is thought that the rock is from the floor of an ancient stream that was once between ankle- and knee-deep. But this does not definitely prove there was once also life on the Red Planet. California Institute of Technology's lead scientist says understanding the chemistry is crucial. [John Grotziner, California Institute of Technology, Lead Scientist]: "As we go forward now we bring the rest of the payload in. We look at more rocks, we get more context and the question about habitability goes beyond the simple observation of water on Mars to recreating the environment in greater detail with an understanding of the chemistry that was going on at that time to ask if this the kind of place that microorganisms ... Traffic Police Help Deliver Babies in Thailand
Bangkok police deliver babies in traffic jams. Full story: Ever been stuck in rush hour traffic? How about while in labor? It seems to be a regular problem in Bangkok, enough so that traffic police have received midwife training to deliver babies. And it's paid off: since the training began 19 years ago, 107 babies have been delivered by traffic cops in the Thai capital. Almost half of those were delivered by officer Mana Jokkoksung. His 47th delivery occurred on August 20th, in the back seat of a taxi during morning rush hour. The 45-year old is now confident in his delivery skills, but remembers the first ones being tougher. [Mana Jokkoksung, Traffic Officer]: "I have to pull myself together and try to concentrate and think of the processes that I've learnt from doctors. I think of what to do. The first few times was still nervous." With a baby delivered once a month on average, 107 police officers were trained in basic aide for pregnant women. Mana says the training is worth it. [Mana Jokkoksung, Traffic Officer]: "When I delivered the baby and the minute that I hear them cry, I feel relieved. After that, I feel proud because all the people applauded and gave me compliments." This week, Mana visited a mother he helped give birth in August. The 19-year-old mother, gave birth to her child while in a taxi in rush hour. Rare White Humpback Whale "Migaloo" Spotted Off Gold Coast
Migaloo, the rare white humpback whale, was spotted on Wednesday (September 26) by a helicopter off Australia's Gold Coast. Migaloo is the first all white whale humans had ever seen, making him one of the world's most famous whales. Migaloo, which means "White Fella" in the Aboriginal Australian language, has been monitored since he was first spotted in 1991. His all white color makes him easily visible and yearly sightings of the great creature have become an event for coastal Australians. According to the White Whale Research Centre, Migaloo is part of an east Australian humpback population that numbers up to 17 thousand. He is currently on his annual migration from Queensland to the Antarctic. To follow him on his journey you can go to www.migaloo.com.au For more news and videos visit ☛ ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me From: NTDTV Views: 352 10 ratings Time: 00:57 More in Pets & Animals

Two Versions Of Leonardo's Mona Lisa?
The Mona Lisa Foundation present their controversial theory that there are in fact two versions of Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece... Full Story: A younger vision of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" was presented in Geneva on Thursday. The Swiss-based Mona Lisa Foundation say the portrait is an earlier version of arguably the world's most famous painting. [Markus Frey, Mona Lisa Foundation, President]: "What is the purpose of the Mona Lisa Foundation? It is our quest to collect and present all evidence showing that the great artist Leonardo Da Vinci did in fact paint two versions of the Mona Lisa portrait. Thus it is the ultimate goal of our endeavors to give that stunning earlier version the place in art history which it deserves after such a long period in obscurity." The portrait on display in Geneva shares many similarities with the established Da Vinci masterpiece, although the woman presented here is much younger. Leading Italian Da Vinci specialist Alessandro Vezzosi is cautiously backing the "two versions" theory. He describes the complicated research involved. [Alessandro Vezzosi, Leading Italian Leonardo Da Vinci Specialist]: "Clearly, attributing a painting is asn extremely complex process, which requires converging investigations, results and interpretations, inspections and judgements, all shared by experts." If the "two versions" theory is proved correct, it would be a major sensation in the art world. But other experts are strongly skeptical. Oxford ... Bo Xilai, the former communist party chief of Chongqing, has been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and will face criminal charges. According to Xinhua, Bo committed corruption and abuse of power, took "massive bribes" both directly and through family members, violated Party discipline, and had inappropriate sexual relations. That's a change from the previous investigations of Bo's right-hand man Wang Lijun and his wife Gu Kailai, which focused on events in Chongqing and the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. According to Xinhua, Bo's expulsion from the Party will be ratified at the seventh plenum of the 17th Party Congress, which will be held on November 1. Mexico Gunfight Kills Eleven
Violence is on the rise in the Mexican state of Guerrero, as ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier are killed in a gunfight. Full story: Violence is rising in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The following footage contains some graphic images. Ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier died in a gunfight on Wednesday, after an armed group ambushed soldiers. It is not yet clear which criminal organization the attackers belonged to. Guerrero, a poor state home to beach resort Acapulco, is one of the worst hit areas for warring drug gangs. Last year, military reinforcements began to restore order, but now the violence is returning. In August alone there were 225 murders in the state. Corruption is also rife - 18 local police were arrested on Monday on suspicion of links to organized crime. In the past 6 years in Mexico nearly 60000 people have been killed as drug gangs fight each other as well as security forces. Reducing this criminal violence is one of the biggest challenges awaiting Enrique Pena Nieto, who will replace Felipe Calderon as president of Mexico on December 1. Paris Auto Show Opens Amid Slumping Market
The Paris Auto Show opened on September 27, but the slumping European car market is the show's big story. Full story: The Paris Auto Show got off to its usual fanfare start on Thursday. But this year, the weakened economy is hijacking enthusiasm in the automotive world. While some new cars are turning heads, from the Opel Adam city car to the McLaren P1 supercar, European carmakers are preparing for a future of uncertainty in the European market. Labor challenges and low sales are hurting the European sector, while the rest of the world's automotive market has seen some growth recently. Falling demand for cars means too much production capacity. Manufacturers are hanging on, hoping for recovery. But even unpopular efforts, like closing down assembly plants, have not been enough to improve bottom lines. The author of "Engines of Change," noted the different mood of this year's auto show. [Paul Ingrassia, Author of "Engines of Change"]: "The industry is very sick. Usually at a car show, the cars are the story. This year the economy is the story. There is a lot of over capacity in the middle part of the market. So companies such as Renault, Opel, and especially Peugeot and Fiat, they are all have too many cars, too few buyers, especially because of the economic recession that seems to be setting in." Many are hoping for a 2015 recovery, but some expect it to take even longer, giving carmakers a long, difficult road ahead. But some, including Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, are ... Countdown Begins for Space Skydive Attempt
October 8th is the jump date for Felix Baumgartner, as the Austrian will attempt to break the world record for the highest altitude skydive. With the capsule tested and ready, the countdown has begun for Felix Baumgartner's world record breaking, supersonic space jump from 23 miles up on October 8. Baumgartner will jump from 23 miles up, or 120 thousand feet, surpassing the current record of 19.47 miles set in 1960 by United States Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger. Full story: [Felix Baumgartner, Skydiver] "Doing something like this, breaking the speed of sound, breaking Joe Kittinger's record has always been my dream since I was a little kid. And I'm so happy that Red Bull are supporting this idea for so many years." The Red Bull Stratos space capsule passed its high-altitude simulation testing after it was repaired of damages from the last test. The 42-year-old Baumgartner already jumped from it 13 miles up in a successful test in March, and again from 18 miles in July, but in the latter jump, the capsule was damaged after a hard landing. [Art Thompson, Technical Project Director] "We're going to have about a week and a half of preparation to get the capsule into place and all the flight systems in place. And then on October 8 we're going to open the flight window." That's when a giant balloon will carry the daredevil in a fully pressurized suit above New Mexico. After reaching an altitude of 23 miles, near the edge of the stratosphere, he will jump. He is expected to ... From: NTDTV Views: 537 20 ratings Time: 02:13 More in Sports
