As the wars and rumors of wars continue, it maybe time for us to step back and take a breath. Surely, at this point, we are hesitant (understatement) to trust the opinions of those in power. The People are well aware of the widening gap that exists between our will and the will of our governments. We are are also aware that our differences are amplified and manipulated, and that our similarities are easily overlooked. On that note, I received a bit of inspiration from a fellow podcaster, Christian of the Documentally podcast. Earlier in the week, Christian emailed me a link to a video highlighting the people and the imagery of Tehran , Iran. As I watched the video, I had somewhat of an epiphany. People are people, to quote an old Depeche Mode song. It takes effort and desire to learn about one another. Past nationality, past ideology, past our fears and insecurities, we are basically the same. It reminds me of a poem by the 13th century poet Rumi , often quoted by Deepak Chopra . I can’t remember the entire poem, but one part plays in my mind. When asked about the differences that exist between people, Rumi stated that the most simple way to view humanity is to remember that “I am that, you are that, all this is that, and that’s all there is.” I hope you enjoy the video.
