That's why Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron founded Sravasti Abbey?an American Buddhist monastic community dedicated to learning, practicing, living, and teaching the Buddha's principles. The Abbey aspires to fulfill its motto, "creating peace in a chaotic world." Already, Sravasti Abbey's programs are filled to overflowing. To teach everyone who wants to learn residents as well as numerous visitors Sravasti Abbey must expand its residence facilities. The Friends of Sravasti Abbey is embarking on a special fundraising effort to raise $1.1 million to lay the infrastructure for the Abbey's Master Plan, build its first monastic residence, and construct a retreat cabin in 2008-2009.
