Rolling Stones Suprise Gig for Paris Fans
The Rolling Stones play an intimate concert at a small venue in northern Paris before embarking on a 50th anniversary tour. The Rolling Stones played an intimate surprise concert in a small Parisian venue on Thursday. This marks the start of their 50th anniversary world tour that will cross the Atlantic Ocean next month. After stepping out of his Mercedes sedan, rock idol Mick Jagger signed autographs for his waiting fans. The Stones played a 75-minute set at Paris' Trabendo, a 700-capacity venue in the north of Paris. They kicked off with the classic 'Route 66,', and closed with 'Brown Sugar'. After queuing in front of the Virgin Megastore on the Champs Elysees earlier that day, fans were overwhelmingly happy with the show. Celebrity concert-goers included supermodel Natalia Vodianova, who left the concert smiling from ear to ear. [Natalia Vodianova, Supermodel]: "It was incredible. Really, really amazing." This fan said the concert was better than the first Stones show he saw in the late-1970s. [Don Device, Concert-goer]: "The first time I saw them, it was in 1979, it was the worst concert I've ever seen. So I would say much, much better." Earlier this month, the Stones announced that they would perform four concerts -- two in London and two near New York. The band is behind a string of hits including "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Honky Tonk Woman" and "Angie". The Rolling Stones had their humble beginnings on July 12, 1962 at the Marquee Club in London's Oxford ... From: NTDTV Views: 861 4 ratings Time: 01:55 More in Music

Hundreds of clowns sing, dance and laugh their way along Mexico City's streets during the 17th Annual International Clown Convention. Full Story: One the funniest group photos you're likely to see. Dozens of clowns brought mirth and color to Mexico City for the 17th Annual International Clown Convention. Their aim is to gain support and respect for their art, which Mexican clown Sergio Cabas says is a labor of love. [Sergio Cabas, Professional Clown]: "Being a clown is a vocation. It's a profession. One needs to be sentimental and have a love for art. Not only for the children, but for the entire family, in a society that today is plagued by a lack of values, by violence." Most, but not all, of the clowns are from Latin America. [Robert Oran, US Clown]: "It's very interesting, especially for me being an American, to see everything from a Latin American perspective. More than anything I think it's just the fellowship with the other clowns. For me, that is the best part." According to the Latin American Clown Association, there are some 10000 professional clowns in Mexico%mdashand they're putting their best foot forward. Tel Aviv Displays Cardigan-Covered Trees
A joyful and extraordinary sight was revealed to the passersby on one of the boulevards in a major city in Israel: trees covered with colorful cardigans. The initiator of the project is Ms. Alona Arobas, who runs Internet forums on knitting, and also works at the Tel Aviv city council. [Alona Arobas, Secretary of a Green Party Member at Tel Aviv City Council]: "2012 was pronounced by Tel Aviv municipality as the 'Year of Art,' and the art of knitting was never presented here before. Tel Aviv is characterized by much openness to arts in general: They loved the idea and were very enthusiastic, and so they approved an experimental pilot." Choosing the position of the trees in the boulevard was important so most visitors would be impressed with the sight of trees covered with knitted dresses. [Alona Arobas, Secretary of a Green Party Member at Tel Aviv City Council]: "We knitted according to specific measurements. We first arrived at the scene and measured the selected trees, and then we knitted the dresses for several months." This unique project was very challenging for Alona and her colleagues, and the responses from passersby proved it was a great success. [Elad, Tel Aviv Resident]: "I think it is very beautiful, and also because winter is getting closer it gives a sense of warming." [Taj Newman, Passerby]: "I love it, I love the colors and I love they are on trees because I think that it helps emphasize the beauty of the tree as well. You see the art she made and you ... Tiny Dinosaur Discover in Argentina
Paleontologists in Argentina have found a model replica of a theropod genus of dinosaur, known as alnashetri cerropoliciensis. The most famous therapod is undoubtedly the the massive, meat-eating Tyrannosaurus Rex. But the carnivorous alnashetri is about the size of a hen and is thought to be much older than its giant cousin. [Sebastian Apesteguia, Paleontologist]: "There are approximately five species but what's surprising is that the Alnashetri, which is this new little dinosaur, is much older than the ones we have found up until now. It's older than the other ones we have found in Argentina and older than ones found in other parts of the world. As a result, it gives us the opportunity to re-evaluate the origins of this group," The fossils of the tiny dinosaur were discovered in Argentina's Rio Negro Province in the Candeleros Formation%mdashthe site of a vast array of fossil finds. [Sebastian Apesteguia, Paleontologist]: "Also we have found other carnivorous dinosaurs like the buitreraptor, and a large quantity of fossils that makes it a very important discovery region. As a result, we go back as often as we can and we find surprises like the Alnashetri and other animals that we are also getting ready to exhibit." The Alnashetri is believed to have lived about 97-million years ago. Chinese Residents Protest Sinopec Plant Expansion
Residents of the city of Ningbo in China's Zhejiang Province are calling for a large protest this weekend over the expansion of a local oil refinery and chemical plant. After two weeks of demonstrations in the Zhenhai district, protesters are now calling for a bigger gathering in Tianyi Square in central Ningbo. Ningbo residents are concerned authorities may be hiding information about the environmental effect of the expansion of China's largest oil refinery and an associated petrochemical plant operated by Sinopec. The center of the debate is over the production of the toxic chemical paraxylene, or PX, which can damage the central nervous system, liver and kidneys if inhaled in large amounts. Chronic exposure may even result in death. The chemical plant is already producing 500000 tons of PX per year. Authorities say the expansion has met the requirements of an environmental assessment, and will increase annual oil refining capacity by 15 million tons. Chinese Ships Enter Japanese Waters Near Senkaku Islands
The controversy continues over the ownership of the Senkaku or Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea today. Chinese surveillance ships entered a 13 mile zone of water claimed by Japan Thursday morning, resulting in a protest from Tokyo. Japanese authorities told the Associated Press that China has been building up its air force operations in the area. The Chinese ships refused to leave, according to the Japanese coast guard. Chinese ships haven't entered those territorial waters since October 3rd. Senior Chinese and Japanese diplomats held discussions over the matter a few weeks ago. After Japan bought the islands from their Japanese owner in September, tensions between the two countries spiked. Both countries sent patrol boats to the area, raising concerns of a broader conflict. Violent protests occurred throughout China, with calls for boycotts on Japanese goods. Japanese automakers have been hit especially hard since the protests in which Japanese cars were vandalized. Bo Xilai Stripped of Immunity
The axe is falling on Bo Xilai. Earlier today, state-run Xinhua news agency officially announced that Bo has been expelled from the National People's Congress. With the expulsion comes a loss of immunity from prosecution, paving the way for his high-profile trial that could come ahead of the 18th Party Congress. Bo is facing a myriad of charges including corruption, sexual crimes, being an accessory to murder, as well as other unspecified charges. The allegations against him date all the way back to his time as mayor of Dalian in Lioaning province in the 90's. Many suspect that his trial is just a formality, and the final decision against Bo has already been made. [Lan Shu, Political Commentator]: "The CCP would like to deal with Bo's case like how it dealt with Wang Lijun and Gu Kailai. So the lawyers are really there for show, like for Wang and Gu. So authorities would need to appoint someone to control what goes on." Lan Shu also says the Chinese Communist Party will block Bo from choosing his own attorney, because they still want to control what gets leaked about Bo's crimes. International rights groups have accused him of being involved in the persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice and the alleged forced organ harvesting of them and other prisoners of conscience. [Lan Shu, Political Commentaor] "This forced organ harvesting in a state-led crime, and was not done by just one person. That's a Lot of Snow!
The ground in Golog Tibetan Autonomus Prefecture lies soft and clean under an unusually heavy snow. The snows were brought by strong cold front that hit northwest China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday. Within four hours, over 3 inches of snow packed the ground. Neither animal nor man seems too happy about the sudden cold front. Traffic was a nightmare. The Jiuzhi section of Provincial Highway 101 became unnavigable as cars tried to work their way through ice and snow. The Qinghai Meteorological Station says more rain and snow is on the way for the next three days. Traffic and livestock departments have been warned to make the necessary preparations. NYU Medical Ethics Director Urges US to Release Information on Organ Harvesting in China
This February, the Chinese Deputy Chief of Chongqing, Wang Lijun fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu with confidential documents. Some of the documents are believed to contain classified information on the state-sanctioned practice of organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience. The US State Department has not released the classified documents, but it did acknowledge accusations of forced organ harvesting in its latest human rights report on China. Arthur Caplan is a Professor of Medical Ethics and the Director of the Langone Medical Center and School of Medicine of New York University. He says the release of any information on forced organ removal is the first step in stopping the practice. [Arthur Caplan, Ph.D, Director of Medical Ethics, NYU Langone Medical Center]: "Having this release of information is very important. I am very pleased that these Congressmen have called for this release and I hope that the state department responds quickly." He also says the evidence that this is happening in China should not be in question. [Arthur Caplan, Ph.D, Director of Medical Ethics, NYU Langone Medical Center]: "When the government themselves began to put up on websites statistics on things like liver transplantation they were showing big numbers, rapid increase. A lot of websites up in the 2006, 2007 period saying "Come here, we can get you a transplant in two weeks or 30 days." Nobody can do that in a cadaver system. Petitioners Refute Xinhua's Claim of Declining Numbers
Every year, tens of thousands of Chinese people travel from around the country to Beijing. But it's not for fun. They're there to air their grievances; hoping central authorities can help them. They are China's vast number of petitioners. They turn to petitioning offices around the country when local courts or officials either cannot or choose not to address their plights. Their complaints range from labor disputes to environmental damage to forced home evictions. When local offices fail, they turn to Beijing. On Thursday, Chinese state-run Xinhua News Agency said since 2005, petitioner numbers have fallen for seven years straight. It says this signals the petitioning system is improving, and the public's rights are being protected. But not everyone agrees, especially petitioners themselves. [Yi Dengzhen, Petitioner from Hubei Province] "It's wrong, wrong. There are more and more petitioners. The old issues don't get resolved. New issues come up, and there are actually more petitioners now." Keeping the number of petitions down is a major focus for China's communist authorities. Chinese leaders see them as a source of instability, and local governments are either punished or rewarded depending on how they keep a lid on petitioners. Petitioners frequently report being illegally detained and abused by authorities. Local governments are known to set up checkpoints around Beijing, and intercept individuals from their jurisdiction before they make it to the capital. A ... Discovering China - HK Dancer Icey Lam Speaks About NTD's Dance Comp
Acclaimed dancer, Icey Lam, has been performing with the Hong Kong Dance Company for 14 years. Lam has danced in over 80 major productions, playing lead roles. She has coached many famous dance groups in Hong Kong and has been invited to Japan, Korea, and Taiwan for cultural exchanges. Upon hearing of NTD Television's International Chinese Classical Dance Competition, Lam felt happy and called on dancers all over the world not to miss this opportunity. [Icey Lam, HK Dancer]: "Now NTD can gather many people from all over the world, I feel this is a ground-breaking opportunity. Besides taking part in the competition yourself, you can also observe contestants from other places. This is a hard opportunity to come by. I hope you can enthusiastically enter the competition." She says the impact of NTD holding the preliminary rounds of the competition in Hong Kong is huge. [Icey Lam, HK Dancer]: "It is a great thing, because kids in Hong Kong already have less and less contact with traditional Chinese culture. If it is not promoted now, I really fear less and less people will know, understand, and be interested in traditional Chinese culture." This year, NTD Television will hold the North American preliminaries, semi-finals, and finals of the competition from October 25th to 27th. From: NTDTV Views: 71 1 ratings Time: 01:30 More in Shows
