Wilson, Lucas & Bruce The Explosions -- Jamie Baugh on bass, David Lester on rhythm guitar, Bob Mercer words and harmonica, Tom Harrison on drums and Alex Varty on lead guitar. The single came out in 1978. On June 9th 1975, three prisoners who were about to be returned to solitary confinement at BC Pen took 15 hostages, the standoff with prison officials lasted 41 hours and ended with the emergency response team storming the hostage takers. In the process the guards shot and killed one of the hostages, Mary Steinhauser, a young correctional officer who had gained the respect of prisoners by implementing courses for prisoners in solitary. I made this film on Prison Justice Day, 2009. Bob Mercer added a comment:
"Walls," the play (and 1984 indie movie broadcast on SuperChannel, CBC and CITY TV) also told the story of Clair Wilson, Dwight Lucas and Andy Bruce , although in thinly fictionalized form. Playwright Chris Bruyere changed the names of those involved but in most respects the condensed storyline mirrored the actual events.
Tom Shandel, the director/co-producer with Bruyere of "Walls" later was a co-producer of "The Corporation."
David Lester of The Explosions later cofounded Mecca Normal."
