Tibetan Monks Detained Two Tibetan monks are currently being detained by Chinese officials in an undisclosed location. Specific reasons for their detainment are unknown but sources have stated that in the past, the two have written books critical of Chinese policies. According to an anonymous source in an interview with Radio Free Asia, "Nobody knows why they were detained but two years ago Mewod wrote a book called Painful Hope, and Gomkul published a book called My Pitiful World. Sources have stated that Tashi Dondrub and Kelsang Gyasto were taken into custody on July 14th. According to The Tibet Post International, Chinese authorities have increasingly jailed Tibetan writers, senior Buddhist monks, artists, singers, and educators for upholding Tibetan culture since widespread protests swept through the region in 2008.
