China's Tianjin Fire Death Toll Rises to 58 A huge fire at a shopping mall in China's northern city of Tianjin on June 30th claimed ten lives, according to the official death toll. But many Netizens have expressed disbelief at this figure. They say it's much higher. Some have been collecting lists of those who died. Their number has reached 58 so far. The Epoch Times reported the scene of the fire has been heavily guarded—from the burnt out shopping mall, all the way to the local crematorium. Tianjin residents warned passersby not to be conspicuous when asking about the fire, otherwise plainclothes police would arrest them. Other locals are frightened and refuse to give details about the fire. Informed sources told the Epoch Times that a number of people have been arrested for talking about it, and the victims' families are under surveillance. Ji County detention center has become overcrowded with the number arrested, so police have begun taking detainees to Tianjin City.
