Washington, DC: Falun Gong Calls for an End to Persecution in China It's an annual tradition, but not through choice... [Keith Ware, Rally Organizer]: "We have this rally every year and we hope to stop doing this rally." It's a means to an end. Practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual practice from around the world are outside the US Capitol building in Washington, DC, seeking help to end the persecution of their fellow practitioners in China. [Keith Ware, Rally Organizer]: "We hope to influence some of the political leaders of the United States, to show them that we are a strong body here and that they should do the right thing, they should talk to their Chinese governmental counterparts to tell them that Falun Gong should not be persecuted." The Chinese communist regime has been persecuting Falun Gong since July 1999. [Ted Poe, US Congressman]: "Party leadership established an office whose sole mission it was to get rid of you, thousands of you. Your friends and family members have been arrested, starved, tortured and abused by the communist Chinese. The communists have even killed many of your family members and your friends." Yet this persecution in China has not changed Falun Gong practitioners' drive to spread the practice they feel is beneficial to society.
