Dr Liu Kaiming, director of a Shenzhen-based civil think tank, says Feng's case highlights the rights abuses under the banner of family planning. [Dr Liu Kaiming, Director, Institute of Contemporary Observation]: "This incident exposes the family planning system, and the huge number of basic human rights violations that took place there over the past three decades. The system has an abundance of power...the fact that an administrative organ can determine birth, and the existence of a life is against modern political ethics." Photos of Feng and her aborted fetus posted online outraged the Chinese public, with many posting scathing remarks of family planning authorities. Jiang Yalin, who has a child sickened by China's 2008 melamine milk scandal, says the people responsible for forced abortions should be held accountable.
