However, it was visibly evident the two men were still working out the intricacies of their new found musical relationship. Yet, performing last night at LA’s Roxy Theatre , for Myspace Music’s “The Release,” it was a different story. After dropping their debut album, Distant Relatives, on Tuesday, and performing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, the lyrical genius and reggae royal son made those in attendance Thursday evening realize their familial ties were more than just a maketing ploy. The two appeared calm, focused and on point all evening. In short, this could be a collaboration that (hopefully) lasts for more than one stellar album. Although they have now been performing together for nearly a year, the two musicians describe the project as one that is still new, and also immensely rewarding. “This is like a really big step forward for me,” Nas said, while describing the project in an exclusive video interview. “It’s not something you would expect.” After a stellar opening performance by Cut Chemist, the duo performed several tracks from their new album (which is doing quite well on the charts)—including the first single, “As We Enter,” “Strong Will Continue” and “My Generation.” The two also ran through some of their own material on Thursday, including Nas‘ “Nas Is Like” and Marley’s “Jamrock.” If you couldn’t make it to last night’s show, check out our exclusive pictures below by Michael Park Photography. http://www.myspace.com/music/blog/2010/05/nas-and-damian-marley-at-the-release-in-la/ Location: The Roxy - LA, CA Filmed/Edited by Decon Creative Group Photos by: Michael Park Photography.
