It was NO mistake that our Back To School Bash event and our new series on Angels, Satan, and Demons collided together on the same night. Our B2SB event is one of our biggest events of the whole year. We had over 100 middle schoolers and over 200 high schoolers for these two crazy services. We wanted to do a topic that would create some serious interest and intrigue to keep the teens coming back. And of course as always...we believe that the doctrine of Angels, Satan, and Demons ultimately points us to Jesus. Here's why I believe God wanted it. Every fall, as all the students are going back to school, more teens than ever decide to give the church one more chance. We want to be well aware of that, so we normally use that Wednesday night to tell those students who we are and what we're all about (JESUS!). I'm amazed at all that God is doing! Over 3 years ago now we had about 60 students in all. Over 3 years ago we had around 90. Over two years ago we had about 140. Last January we topped about about 170. God has given us so much growth that we've had to go to 2 CBSM services (middle and high school separated). So this week, with both services combined, we had just barely under 200 teenagers! It was an absolute honor to talk about who are as CBSM (Capshaw. Baptist. Student. Ministry). Youth pastors, I would highly recommend that every August and January you take a week or two to recast your vision as a student ministry, strategically speak to your guests and visitors, and watch God get them on board for the glory of His Kingdom. And praise God...we had around 6 teens give their lives to Jesus last night!

Two of our major school systems are back with classes, but two are still not yet. So, I’m doing a two part series on understanding who we are as CBSM and what all we do as a student ministry. This is the first sermon, and it just happens to fit perfectly within the book of Micah which teaches us four main things: 1. Who are WE really? 2. Who really is JESUS? 3. What does God WANT? 4. Who is God REALLY? Our student building was packed! Our band was rockin! And the Word was preached! Definitely check out this study on the book of Micah, feel free to use it in your own youth ministry, and let God work it into your life!

Jonah had a very skewed view of love for God and for people. Jonah did not want to go and tell Nineveh about God’s forgiving love because Jonah didn’t want God to forgive them. Jonah knew that Nineveh was the capital city of Assyria…who was about to attack the northern kingdom of Israel and send them into exile. How could God forgive His enemies?! Jonah seemed to love God but hate Nineveh. I think our problem is the opposite. It seems to me that we don’t witness because we love people and hate God. Could that be your problem? Check out this study on the book of Jonah, listen to the podcast, and let God rock your world as well. He will use you as a great witness!

Its a story that truly happened historically to teach us the most important spiritual truth ever: God’s gracious love through the gospel. We normally don’t like to read the Minor Prophets because they call us out on our sin, and we love our sin too much to let go of it. So we usually skip them. But we need them. We need that confrontation. We need to hear how we constantly cheat on God, and we need to hear about His persistent, relentless, loving pursuit of us. Hosea is a must read!

Lord, I want to go to heaven, but I don’t want to go tonight.” “If heaven ain’t a lot like Dixie, I don’t want to go.” “Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to go now.” “When I get to where I’m going…” One of the latest movies on eternity was called the “Hereafter” produced by Clint Eastwood and starred by Matt Damon. Have our Christian views of eternity been tainted by entertainment’s attempts to describe it? Absolutely! What if I told you that absolutely no one will end up in heaven forever? We have called eternity “heaven” for so long that our view of eternity has become unbiblical. NT Wright rightly said, “Don’t worry, heaven won’t be the end of the world.” I agree with him fully on that because Revelation 21 and 22 says that Christians will live ON the New Earth which will be in the New Heavens. “Heaven” and the dwelling place of God will come down to Earth rather than us going up to Heaven for all eternity. Eternity will be spent in a very physical world, and not some immaterial, spiritual heavenly realm. I told them that if this topic was not understood or believed on the mission field, then the people could not be saved. We here preaching on this in our churches usually no more than once a year. This is devastatingly sad since the majority of the Bible points to it, and it is absolutely necessary for saving faith and a spiritually growing life. What did we talk about? The resurrection of Jesus Christ! Do Christians, believers, or church members truly understand the necessity and the power of Jesus’ resurrection? His resurrection is the most important event of all time. Without the resurrection, Christmas (Jesus’ birth) and Good Friday (Jesus’ death) were failures! So here you go…my attempt at a biblical, theological, comprehendable, fun, and convicting sermon on the resurrection of Jesus to teenagers. ;
