I have found this very useful if you need to print or save what is showing on your monitor. I have found some websites that don’t allow printing or saving, with this method I have been able to work around this. I have also used this method when I need screen shots for presentations.The disadvantage is if you can’t read it on your monitor, you won’t be able to read it when you print or save the image.Software can be downloaded from Portable Freeware:http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=775

TIFs are better for editing & archiving, but can be a bit large in size. JPG has problems because they use what is called "Lossy Compression" to reduce the size of the file & that can effect the quality of the image. Tools: * Open * Magnifing Glass * Shorcut keys "+" "-" to zoom in & out PART 3 (6:14) Scanning & Acquiring A Photo How to open a file, scanning, and screenshots (copy what is on you monitor). When scanning look for what is called a "Twain", that is scanner driver. Tools: * Rotating with the "Transform" option, good for 90 degrees or 180 etc. * Cropping with the "selection Tool". * Saving as JPG & TIF (for compatibility issues use "none" compression for the TIF images).

One problem with old copy machines it left photos with white lines going down the image. With GIMP http://gimp.org/ (a free open source program), I hope to show a way to improve this. It is far from a perfect fix but helps. In this video I use the Destripe, and Gaussian Blur filters to help improve the pictures.
