Recently, on a bright summer afternoon, I sat down with photographer Aliza Eliazarov to talk about her project “Sustain,” an ambitious photographic survey on the new farm movement taking place in America today. The project has taken Ms. Eliazarov across the country countless times in a quest to meet these new farmers and to document their relationships with the land and with more sustainable modes of food production, capturing their work and livelihoods in images of arresting beauty and contemplation. Check out the video to learn about this project and hear Ms. Eliazarov’s reflections on the new farm movement and its farmers. Ms. Elizarov is a Brooklyn based photographer and teacher and a graduate from the International Center of Photography. An exhibit of “Sustain” will open Friday, September 16, at the Tribeca Art Gallery. The reception will be followed by a performance of Nation Beat, Maracatu NY and DJ Greg Caz to celebrate the release of Nation Beat’s new album, Growing Stone, which pays tribute to family farmers throughout the world.
