25 years after a Union Carbide plant leaked toxic chemicals into the air killing at least 10,000 and affecting the health of half a million others, there has been little progress in cleaning up the site and the toxic waste continues to contaminate water supplies. The Union Carbide factory that spewed 40 tons of deadly methyl isocyanate into the air in the dead of night on December 2 1981, the factory is deserted and run down - its windows broken and its metal structures rusted. The disinfectant lining the roads and the freshly cleared vegetation are the only signs of the government's plans to throw open the factory to the public that were shelved by a court ruling. visit ebrunews.com for more info & news...

[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 16:27:44 12/01/09
Four police officers were shot and killed Sunday morning as they sat working on their laptops at a Washington state coffeehouse in what authorities called a targeted ambush. Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said officers were looking for one male suspect who fled on foot, but haven't ruled out an accomplice. Troyer said the four officers killed - three men and a woman from the Lakewood Police Department - were in uniform and catching up on paperwork at the beginning of their shifts when they were attacked at 8:15 a.m. Investigators believe the officers were targeted, and it was not a robbery. Troyer would not release their names. visit ebrunews.com for more info & news...

Europe Meets Bioethanol Demand
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 18:10:57 11/24/09
Europe's largest bioethanol refinery is nearing completion in the north east of England. Owners of the plant say it will meet one third of the UK's bioethanol demand once it's up and running. They say that's the equivalent of taking 300,000 cars off the road. The world is running low on fuel and some now hope bioethanol will help top up the shortage. The European Union has set a target that requires each member state to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through energy by 20% by the year 2020. The UK aims to have 15% of all petrol and diesel sold in the UK come from renewable sources by 2020. Within that figure the road transport fuel target is 10%. Once up and running, owners Ensus, say it will produce more than 400 million litres of bioethanol - that's one third of the UK's bioethanol demand. visit ebrunews.com for more info and news.

World’s Largest Atom Smasher Back On Line
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 16:58:30 11/24/09
Scientists will soon get insights into the origins of the universe after switching on the world’s largest atom smasher for the first time since the 10 billion US dollar machine suffered a spectacular failure more than a year ago. There was cheering among scientists as the giant machine began circulating beams of protons in a significant leap forward for the Large Hadron Collider located deep underground in a 17-mile circular tunnel under the Swiss-French border. The European Organization for Nuclear Research has taken the restart of the collider step by step to avoid further setbacks as it moves toward new scientific experiments - probably starting in January - regarding the makeup of matter and the universe. It has undergone a year of repairs after it was heavily damaged by a simple electrical fault. visit ebrunews.com for more info and news.

Usa Meteor Illuminates The Night Sky
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 19:14:58 11/20/09
A streaking fireball briefly illuminated parts of the Utah sky to daylight-level conditions early on Wednesday, surveillance footage showed. The video from outside security cameras at the University of Utah's Milford observatory shows a blinding flash of light around 12:07 a.m. (0707 GMT), followed by clear images of the object streaking away. Although it's too early to say definitively how large the object was and how fast it was going, Seth Jarvis, the director of the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City estimated that it was about the size of an oven and was travelling at about 80 thousand mph (148 thousand kph). It broke through the Earth's atmosphere and was probably around 100 miles above the ground when it became visible, he said. It almost certainly broke up before it reached the ground, he said. visit ebrunews.com for more info and news!

'Avatar' Video Game In 3 D
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 18:56:01 11/20/09
3-D gaming is about to hit the stores in time for the holiday season market. 'Avatar: The Game' , which piggy backs off James Cameron's sci-fi movie "Avatar" , throws players into the fictional world of Pandora - all in 3-D. Both will be released in December. Unlike most film-related videogames, 'Avatar: The Game' was commissioned three years ago while Avatar the movie was in basic production. This enabled the developers to create a very intricate game, with lots of detail and an elaborate storyline. The big news is that this video game is in 3-D, which makes it something of a pioneer in the gaming world. Kevin Shortt, story designer for 'Avatar: The Game', says Ubisoft's early start in development means the game won't lack for quality - a criticism given to many film-based games. What will really get gamers' attention is that, just like the film, the game is released in 3-D. visit ebrunews.com for more info and news!

[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 18:38:25 11/20/09
On Wednesday, the US called for intensified efforts to combat piracy and warned against paying ransom to free ships and crew members. U.S. deputy ambassador Rosemary DiCarlo expressed concern that ransom payments have contributed to the recent increase in piracy. Deputy DiCarlo spoke at an open meeting of the U.N. Security Council Wednesday on the fight against piracy. and said that the US is encouraging all countries to adopt a policy of "no concessions" when dealing with "hostage-takers, including pirates." The previously scheduled meeting coincided with Wednesday's second attack by Somali pirates in seven months against the U.S.-flagged ship the Maersk Alabama, which was thwarted by private guards onboard.
