"Make Believe" is an experimental, found-footage short which makes new narratives from the interweaving of thematically related media. Using mainly footage from the genres of fantasy and sci-fi, it also poetically connects these things to “real” life. While doing this, it explores the contingency of truth upon reality, of meaning upon truth, and of aesthetic upon meaning. “Make Believe” aims to serve as a dialogue between the original creators of the footage used and viewers\artists who may manipulate this media, and who by doing so become active participants in a culture that is otherwise pure spectacle. It is a testament to the fact that art and culture should be freed from the shackles of our stringent copyright laws and loosed into the realm of creativity, play---and fantasy. "Make Believe" uses footage from the television show "The X-Files;" the films "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "Sink or Swim," by Sue Friedrich, and stills from the graphic novel "The Sandman" by Neil Gaiman.
