Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish - MON JAN 17, 2011 at Temple B'nai Torah, Bellevue WA Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, a PALESTINIAN DOCTOR who tragically lost three daughters and a niece during Israel's military incursion into Gaza in January 2009.Dr. Abuelaish's new book 'I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey' was published last year by Random House Canada. Dr. Abuelaish is a Palestinian Obstetrician and Gynecologist from the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.Abuelaish has earned medical degrees from several prestigious universities including the University of London and a Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. Throughout his career, Dr. Abuelaish has been a STRONG ADVOCATE FOR PEACE and has frequently spoken out condemning all forms of violence.On January 16th, 2009 Dr. Abuelaish's home in Gaza was struck by Israeli shells, immediately killing three of his daughters as well as his niece.A fourth daughter, Shada , was severely injured and rushed to Chaim Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv after Israeli news anchors aired Dr. Abuelaish's call for help. Despite his tragic loss, Dr. Abuelaish remains committed to the idea that medicine can serve as a bridge for peace. When he contiunued to do so, rather than calling for revenge after his tragic loss, he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.Dr, Abuelaish is a close personal friend of Cantor David Serkin-Poole, Cantor of Temple B'nai Torah.
