Reform School Vs. Nicki Minaj - "Starships"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 00:58:36 05/21/12
This week the girls check out the latest video from hip-hop phenom Nicki Minaj for the song "Starships."
I love this song. I'm obsessed.
You know, I haven't even gotten sick of it yet? It's been playing 50 times a day on the radio.
I know.
It's really catchy.
I've seen this video. It's strange.
It's weird to see Nicki Minaj smiling. That sounds weird to say...
She's usually so angry, like...RAWR!
This looks like something from Shakira with the tribal men.
She shows up as a hologram. Her body looks awesome, I have to say.
We all know her butt is huge. Way too big for her body. Because she's so small.
Butt everywhere.
At least she's toned.
That green wig is hideous. That looks like Medusa.
You're rich. You can afford a nicer wig.
If you're gonna have topless men, why don't you have hot topless men?
I guess this is Nicki Minaj's version of an alien.
I really like this kaleidoscope effect. It's really cool.
I like the neon lights.
It's like the happiest song on earth.
The video's kind of a little crazy.
It's well done.
Final Grade: B for the video, A for the song

Reform School Vs. The Beastie Boys - "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 22:13:24 05/13/12
This week the girls check the video for "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" from the one and only Beastie Boys. Recent inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Beastie Boys are one of the longest-lived Hip Hop groups in history, with more than a quarter century of commercial and critical success. They're counted among the top 100 acts of all time by Rolling Stone, and their influence is still relevent today in the worlds of Hip Hop, Punk, fashion, art, politics, film-making and the recording business. The Reform School Girls, however, are having none of it. > This is super old. I remember watching this video when I was in fifth grade.
I've never seen this video.
Whenever I think of the Beastie Boys, I think of that ugly hat.
So, fun fact. We were told that Slayer's guitar player is playing guitar in this video.
This song...the only good part is this part:
YOU'VE GOT TO FIGHT! FOR YOUR RIGHT! TO PARTY!
This is really weird.
Not good at all.
It's not like anyone throws whipped cream pies at parties.
Let's just break everything.
Okay. Is this over yet?
I feel bad for the guy and his family, and everyone - but I don't like them. I don't like the video. I don't like the song. I don't like them at all.
Sad that he's dead, of course, but that's not what we're here to talk about.

Reform School Vs. Cinderella - "Nobody's Fool"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 22:56:34 05/06/12
This week the girls are again taking a trip back to the days of hair metal with a look at the video for Cinderella's song "Nobody's Fool."
"Nobody's Fool" is the second single from rock band Cinderella, released in 1986. It made it to number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100.
The music video features a Cinderella story, complete with wicked step-sisters in clock hats, and a midnight transformation. The storyline is so well hidden, however, that it is completely lost on most viewers who don't remember the band's previous video for "Shake Me" which showed the first part of the story. The Reform School Girls are no exception.
Why would you call yourself Cinderella?
Omigod, this is so weird.
That's the ugliest car I've ever seen.
Do they have pizzas on their heads?
That's a woman.
What? I'm confused.
There's another shirtless 80s video.
That isn't a phone, that's your fingers.
I'm bored. Where's the guitar solo?
This is so dramatic.
His sleeves...that's what I would wear when I was eight on Halloween...like a sorcerers costume...
This song has no melody. Have we gotten to the chorus yet.
What is this girl doing?
I'm bored.
They all look the same.
She was a slut, now she's pure because of this song?
It makes no sense. What was up with the clock-head girls?

Reform School Vs. Warrant - "Cherry Pie"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 21:24:55 04/27/12
This week the girls go back in time to the days of big haired rock as they check out the "classic" hair metal anthem "Cherry Pie" from Warrant.
In 1990, it would have been hard to miss the video for Warrant's "Cherry Pie." Featuring Model Bobbie Brown, the blatantly sexism and sexuality in the video got it banned from some networks but also brought the band overnight fame.
Strangely enough, the song was an after thought. When the album was nearly finished, Don Ienner (Columbia Records President at the time) called Jani Lane asking if he could write a Rock anthem similar to Aerosmith's "Love In An Elevator." Lane wrote the song in about 15 minutes, on a pizza box. Once recorded, the song became the title of the album, and the entire design and marketing followed suit. The track was such a huge hit, that it overshadowed the rest of the album.
This holds true for the Reform School girls, who seemed to like everything except the creepy big huge teeth and drummer Steven Sweet's hair.
I don't know anything else by them.
I don't either.
Oh, God. 80s.
80s hair.
If you lived in the 80s these guys would be hot.
He looks like the girl in the video - like they could be sisters. I don't know who's hotter.
Oooh! He's drumming on cherry pies!
Her boobs look like they're just about to fall out.
If you saw some guys walking around like that now, you'd be like "who's this freak?"
Is cherry pie a sexual innuendo?
Okay, that was funny. I like the song.
The video was okay.
Hot girl. Hot guy.

Reform School Vs. The Guild - "I'm the One That's Cool"
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 18:56:37 04/18/12
This week the girls watch the music video by The Guild called "I'm the One That's Cool".
Felicia Day and some of her fellow cast members from The Guild have produced several music videos now, including "Do You Want To Date My Avatar," "Game On" and the latest, "I'm The One That's Cool."
In case you're unfamiliar, The Guild is an original web series that Day created, wrote and stars in, loosely based on her own life as a gaming enthusiast. It has won numerous awards for Best Series, Best Actress, Best Ensemble Cast, etc.
"I'm The One That's Cool" depicts the band members being tormented during high school, and their revenge (being the cool kids) today.
Day is about as cool as you can get - valedictorian of her senior class, an accomplished violinist who was accepted to Julliard, a double major (math and music performance) at U.T. Austin. She first rose to prominence as Violet on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The Reform School girls found the song catchy, but the video not so cool.
>
Girl singer...I like that.
She looks like Donna from That 70s Show...
But, like, uglier...
This is catchy, I guess.
I like it!
Who's that fat girl?
I like the song.
This is something, like you'd think if Avril Lavigne made a mix-tape before she got famous.
I don't know how I feel about it.
I'm bored. Can this be over now?
So, her 8th grade crush pushed her in the pool. That's so mean.
So, they were just playing Rock Band?
Average...C...Sorry.

Reform School Vs. Dio - "Holy Diver"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 22:48:07 04/13/12
This week the girls check out this old hit by Dio, "Holy Diver".
Holy Diver was released in August of 1983 as the first single from Dio's debut album of the same title. The video depicts Dio as a barbarian wandering through the ruins of a church with a sword, striking shrouded figures and turning them into rats. Following the September 11th attacks, the song was placed on the list of post-9/11 inappropriate titles distributed by Clear Channel. It's widely noted as one of the top Hard Rock songs of all time.
Here's what the Reform School Girls thought.
>
I don't know what this is.
Me neither, but we've been told that it's great.
It looks old.
Looks like a horror movie.
Hi. I don't want to look at tree branches. I'm bored.
Me too. Fail.
That only took twenty years to start the friggin' song.
So this guy has a sword.
Oh. My. God.
I have to admit that I love this kind of music.
I just can't handle the voices.
Ew! Rats! Gross!
This guy looks like my butt.
I can't believe it starts and ends like this. It's so stupid.
I love the song - but the video - like an F+.
A for effort, kind of...

Reform School Vs. Demi Lovato - "Give Your Heart A Break"
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 23:46:26 04/06/12
This week the girls check out the brand new video from pop star Demi Lovato for the song "Give Your Heart A Break."
Demi Lovato talks about the song: "Last year I began working on a song about a different kind of love," she said. "It's a song about showing someone you love that you're the one right in front of them. This is a song about faith."
The video tells a story of a young couple who have an argument, break up, and the woman's extraordinary efforst to win him back.
Here's some of what the Reform School girls have to say.
We love Demi.
She's beautiful. She's talented.
It's not fair!
I like how she looks really natural. She's not wearing a lot of makeup.
She's learned to love herself.
I want to find something bad to say and I can't.
It's perfect.
Too bad boys aren't really like that in real life.
Ooh. They're naked. Hey!
Scandalous.
Aw. Cute!

Band Members:
Justin Hawkins – vocals, lead and rhythm guitar, synthesizer, piano
Dan Hawkins – rhythm and lead guitar
Frankie Poullain – bass
Ed Graham – drums
I Believe In A Thing Called Love was the third single from The Darkness' debut studio album, Permission to Land, released in the Summer of 2003. It ranks number 94 on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs, and received an ASCAP Award in 2005 for one of the Most Performed Works in the USA.
Here's what the Reform School girls have to say.
>
I love The Darkness. This song is so good.
They're not hot.
Basically they're fighting off aliens.
Ew. What was that thing.
The song's so good, but this is making me repulsed.
Omigod. His teeth are actually awful.
Where are the aliens?
I want more aliens.
This is horrible.
That was hilarious.
I love this song. It was funny. I was smiling and laughing.

One Direction are a British-Irish boy band consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Their debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful", was released in September 2011, and the album, "Up All Night," followed in November 2011.

"What Makes You Beautiful" won the Best British Single award at the 2012 Brit Awards, which was held on 21 February 2012.
Comments:
Okay, I just have to say that I love this band.
I love boy bands.
It's a very feelgood song.
...and they're telling us how beautiful we are.
...and they're British!
Weren't they from X-Factor?
Yeah. They came in third.
His hair though needs to go.
He's perfect.
Oh! Marry me right now.
I know.
I'm in love. I think they're all legal too.
I can't handle the red capris though. You're a man. Do not wear capris.
That makes my heart flutter.
I'm so in love.

This week the girls check out a video from Northern Virginia pop act Crash Boom Bang for their song "V.I.P."
Band Members: Vocals: Omar Ruiz (@crashboomomar) Guitar: Chaucer (@chaucediggy) Drums: Mauricio Rivero (@mauriciocbb) Bass: Raul Rivero (@karizmo) Website: http://crashboombangmusic.com/ From the Band: "When writing “V.I.P.”, we wanted to create the ultimate pump-up, pre-game anthem, so we wanted the video to reflect this. Everything about the video is over the top, from the Ferrari to the yacht to the V.I.P. table service. It’s okay to be yourself, it’s okay to be young and free. That’s what we wanted to get across in the video. Hope you enjoy! HINT: The video is supposed to be satirical." The Rerform School Girls' Critique:
I'm excited this looks good.
I like the sound of this already.
Omigod - everything about him is ridiculous.
Why is he the lead one? The other guys are hotter than him.
I like this.
So, they're all Asian, I just realized.
I never heard of them but I like the music.
I can't take him seriously.
You know how dinosaurs have really short arms? They can't clap or anything? That's how he looks.
Oh, they're on a yacht.
They need to calm down.
Word to the wise, all bands: don't pick the ugly guy to be the lead singer.
I would totally like rock my iPod with this though.

Reform School Vs. Lil' Jon (ft. LMFAO) - "Drink"
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 20:27:40 03/12/12
This week the girls check out the new video for the song "Drink" from Atlanta rapper Lil' Jon featuring LMFAO.
This week the Reform School Girls learn that Lil' John's latest song with LMFAO is exactly the same as his last song with LMFAO except with nursing home residents, puppets and cartoon characters.
Drink = Shots
Martina: Seriously, anything Lil Jon is hilarious.
Martina: What is this? Like, old people getting drunk?
Jackie: Hey, there's my grandpa!
Martina: Drink, drink, drink! This is exactly like Shots.
Jackie: Old people getting freaky? I wanna go to a party like that.
Martina: EW! I can't handle the old people making out.
Jackie: Okay. So far this song actually pisses me off.
Jackie: Would you audition for this video if you were old though?
Martina: Hell yeah!
Martina: I want my money back.
Jackie: This song is awful.
Jackie: First of all, if you're in a nursing home you don't have that much energy.
Martina: Second of all, could we be original and write a new song?
Martina: I am pissed. I feel gypped.
On the other hand, it was entertaining.

Reform School Vs. Taylor Swift - "Safe and Sound"
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 21:16:46 03/04/12
This week the girls check out the first single from the upcoming "The Hunger Games" soundtrack. This is Taylor Swift featuring the Civil Wars with the song "Safe and Sound."
Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars team up for an eerie, haunting centerpiece to the soundtrack for The Hunger Games. If you're familiar with the story, it's easy to imagine Katniss and Prim with this song in the background.
Although the Reform School girls like Taylor Swift, this particular song didn't work for them.
* "Another Emo Taylor Swift song."
*
* "I think she's really talented for her age. She writes her own songs."
*
* "I can tell already that I'd never turn this song on on purpose."
*
* "I really don't like her bangs. They drive me insane."
*
* "They (The Civil Wars) are out of place here."
*
* "It sounds like she's yawning."
*
* "This is the worst song I've ever heard in my life."
*
* "The good thing about this is that they're not showing clips from the movie."
*
* "This song is like a really long, run-on sentence."
*
* "Every other single she's made, I've liked."
*
* "Final Grade: F"
*
* "I'm still a Taylor Swift fan. I love her. But this was really boring."

Reform School Vs. M.I.A. - "Bad Girls"
[LESS INFO] 7 VIEWS | ADDED 19:35:27 02/16/12
This week the girls deconstruct the latest video from the always interesting M.I.A. and her song "Bad Girls."
Maya Arulpragasam (a.k.a. M.I.A.) has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Grammys and the Barclaycard Mercury Prize. Her single "Paper Planes" is legendary, ranking as the seventh best-selling song by a Brit in the digital era. The video for her latest, "Bad Girls," was released to much adulation. But you won't hear any praise from the Reform Schoolmarms.
They're somewhere in the Middle East where it's really hot outside.
"Chain hits my chest when I'm banging on the dashboard."
Why are you even banging on the dashboard?
So, her outfit's weird. It's like half Lady Gaga and half Hipster/homeless person.
Do you know English?
"List fast, die young. Bad girls do it well."
The horse dances better than she does.
She's trying to be not mainstream. Too Late. You're in Madonna's video. Everyone knows who you are.
I will never watch this again when we're done here.
Ew. What is that jacket? Nobody should wear furry orange jackets.
Why is there just a random ginger there now?
Gingers are terrorists, apparently.

[LESS INFO] 5 VIEWS | ADDED 17:07:24 02/10/12
The girls view this interesting music video by the band, Cake, and their song, "Mustache Man."
Why would you name your band Cake?
Nice T-Shirt. My dad used to have one of those with the bikini on it.
People with those bigass mustaches, doesn't food get stuck in there?
Ew! Omigod!
He kind of looks like Chloe Kardashian.
Ew! This guy with the hairy cleavage...I can't...
So this song kind of sucks.
What's happening is the video is so good it's overpowering the song.
If this is the frontman for Cake, I'm not interested.
Will Ferrell should be in this video.
So far there are no attractive people in this video.
Okay! Is this over yet! Hi!

Reform School Vs. KDrew - "One"
[LESS INFO] 9 VIEWS | ADDED 20:58:19 01/28/12
This week the girls check out a video from New Jersey native KDrew for his song "One".
Kevin Drew's dad was a DeeJay back in his native New Jersey, and by the time he was 14 he started borrowing dad's digital workstation and 8-track recorder to remix songs. His freshman year of high school he signed up for chorus, but dropped out after some taunting from his pals on the basketball team. His music wouldn't go away though, and by the time he was a senior he was back in the choir and writing catchy songs for the entire school to sing at pep rallies. He hasn't stopped writing and performing since.
"One" is his new single and video. The girls checked it out and here's some of what they said.
* Oh, he's hot.
* My God, he looks like Colby O'Donis.
* Hey!
* Hey, K Drew!
* He looks very Jersey Shore...like, Guido...but like, cute Guido, not gross Guido.
* It's a good song so far.
* What if we only had one what?
* We're so mean.
* All I can look at when a person has a butt chin is their butt chin.
* The song is catchy, but I've only heard it once and I'm already kind of over it.
* Yeah, like if they played it on the radio, I'd be like "okay, shut up now."
* The video: It's decent. He's hot, so let's give it a B.

Reform School Vs. Jessie J - "Domino"
[LESS INFO] 11 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:00 01/20/12
This week the girls check out the latest single from British pop songstress Jessie J for her song "Domino."
Jessie J began performing and formal performance education in her native United Kingdom at a young age, appearing in her first West End production by the time she was eleven. An alumnus of the London School for Performing Arts and Technology (also known as The BRIT School), she graduated in 2006 along with fellow singer/songwriter sensations Adele and Leona Lewis. Jessie first came to prominence as a songwriter for the likes of Miley Cyrus (Party In The USA) and Chris Brown. She was part of the girl band Soul Deep for several years before embarking on a solo career.
Her first album, Who You Are, features the singles Price Tag and Domino, which both hit number one on the UK charts. Domino is her highest charting US single so far, peaking at #15.
She's often been compared to Katy Perry, but also to artists as diverse as Rihanna, Kristen Chenoweth and even Alice Cooper.
The Reform School girls both loved this one, giving it an A-Plus. Here are some of their comments.
* People are saying that she's starting to sound more like Katy Perry.
* This is my favorite song of the whole album, and omigod that jumpsuit!
* Crazy!
* She's not as famous as I'd expect her to be.
* White girl moves.
* Yeah. It's like, I'm a good singer but I can't really move.
* All her outfits I LOVE.
* A-PLUS! For the song, the video, your face, your clothes.
* You're hot!
It also really ought to be noted that Jackie couldn't help singing along some of the time, which wasn't a bad thing.
