You might have heard of the recent demonstrations in Egypt against president Mubarak. Well, those protests were partly organized on Facebook and Twitter. Now, Twitter seems to be blocked in Egypt. A report on TechCrunch says many people still tweet with the use of third party servers such as Tweetdeck. So, have you ever thought about how many countries block certain websites or social media? FS: http://opennet.net/research/map/socialmedia
I found this map online, which shows you where the internet, or parts of it, is blocked. You can even search by social media platform (definitely try YouTube, it seems to be blocked or partially blocked in many countries).
YouTube’s ‘Life in a Day’ coming to Theaters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMxuocCN1O0
Remember when the King of online video asked its users to take video footage for one day, and then submit it - for a chance to be part of a documentary called ‘Life in a Day’? Well, that was on July 24, 2010 - and YouTube just announced that on July 24, 2011 (so that’s exactly one year later) the movie will be coming to theaters. It’s not clear where the movie will be showing, but don’t worry. Pretty soon, you can watch it at home, online, for free!
The Daily - iPad Newspaper Experiment
Speaking of experiments, a new newspaper experiment will launch on iPads pretty soon. In a time when most regular newspapers and magazines are struggling to survive, News Corp is launching a new type of newspaper: The Daily - which will be completely digital, and is designed especially for the iPad. I’m very intersted to see how this experiment will go. The paper will cost 99 cents per week, will launch in the next two weeks, and will only be available in the US for now.
Ongo wants to deliver your news ad-free for $6.99 a month
Ongo is a site for people who go to different news websites every day - and want to read them all in one place, without those annoying ads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inqSXsPYVbg&feature=player_embedded#!
Ongo is backed by three major media companies, and will cost $6.99 per month.
Now ofcourse, the big question is: would you be willing to spend a few bucks on add-free articles you could get for free if you browse yourself? Let me know, just leave a comment at webbeat.tv/56.
Viral Video: ridiculously awesome steadycam shot
I realize this is not a new video, but I bumped into it yesterday, and just have to share it. Anyone who’s into cameras, editing, or live production will appreciate this video (and play it over and over again). It’s a pretty amazing steadycam shot at a LIVE show:

Website of the Day: Philantropher
And time now to go to the website of the day - today, I picked Philantropher: a site that makes ‘giving’ easier.
https://philanthroper.com/
Philantropher shares a new charity every day, but you can only give one dollar a day. It’s a pretty neat idea - like being asked to donate a dollar to an organization at your local grocery store. I always say yes because, after all, it’s just a dollar.Well, Philantropher works the same way! Pretty neat!
