the family of a prominent attorney and unm professor talks to us about the father and grandfather they lost so suddenly. tim vollmann was hit and killed on his bicycle by a city garbage truck driver on comanche. today abby roedel talked to both his family and colleagues. "what i'll miss about him is what he's going to miss. he's not going to get to see his grandchildren grow up to be the men and women we are raising them to be." five kids - eight grandchildren - and a wife of nearly 30 years. tim vollmann left many behind in his personal ...and professional life. "our first efforts were to reach out to the students and make sure they were ok." an adjunct professor at u-n-m for about ten years, vollmann was popular in the classroom. "the students rave about his teaching. when they can be in a classroom with a real expert like that, who's actually litigating these issues as we speak, it's very valuable for the students." he was an authority in tribal law with decades of experience working for the federal government. vollmann set up his own office about ten years ago. he was riding home from there when he got hit on comanche. "our hearts really do go out to phil and his family - and our thoughts are with them. i can only imagine what he's going through." philip romero was behind the wheel of the city dump truck. it's still unclear to vollmann's family how it happened, but they aren't blaming the driver. vollmann was doing something he was passionate about when he died, bringing some amount of peace to family and friends.
