yesterday at six, we broke the story about a number of governor bill richardson appointed employees getting their job classification changed. we told you it was an attempt to stay on the state payroll after richardson leaves office. today - governor elect susana martinez's transition team says that is not going to happen. gadi schwartz is live in santa fe with what he uncovered today. today the transition team for susana martinez announced that every exempt employee should get their resignation letters ready for the end of december. those interested in keeping their jobs or moving to classified positions need to apply to the transition team. in a memo heather wilson also added that any exempt employee caught switching from an exempt position to a classified position after this months election will be fired january 1st. in response to our story that aired last night about an unqualified spokesman now running state police search and rescue - martinez's camp said- "news that people with questionable qualifications continue to receive high-paying jobs in the richardson/denish administration is deeply troubling. taxpayers are the victims of these decisions." now classified state employees are on probation for the first year of their employment- meaning that can be fired if they started their new job after january of this year. the martinez campaign has set up a special email address for exempt employees applying for classied positions.
