I've met Ian from IBM Big Green Innovations numerous times now and he's always got great new initiatives to show me. Here I talked to him at IBM's recent launch of it's London Analytics Centre, which will employ around 400 people to work on measuring and making sense of smart cities, smart water infrastructure, smart transport and smart finance. It was a high profile launch - they'd pulled in Peter Mandelson, effectively the UK deputy prime minister. Mark talks to Ian about the IBM Deep Thunder project, and how weather prediction can be turned into powerful systems to support urban management and disaster preparation.
Interview by Mark Charmer of Akvo. IBM, Upper Ground, Waterloo, London. 1 December 2009.
