Director Pedro Almodovar says of Penelope Cruz, "She was born to be an actress. She is someone who is extremely emotional, and if she was not an actress it could be a problem for her.
"It’s luck she has chosen a profession that allows her to express something that would be too much for a normal person. Otherwise she would suffer a lot. And even now maybe she suffers too much.”
“I’ve always been a worrier,” says Cruz. “Since I was a little girl I’ve always felt that if I had a moment of peace I’d wonder: Are you sure you can afford to feel like this?”

"I get emotional all the time," says actor Jennifer Beals. "I get emotional every time I make a speech, or talk about other cast members. Every now and again, my heart just explodes and expands." [Intensity / sensitivity page 3]

Creativity coach Eric Maisel, PhD [author of The Van Gogh Blues] notes we need to be able to use our emotional sensitivity to help realize our creative talents.
“You want your full measure of emotion, as emotion is the life blood of art… But that doesn’t mean you should be a slave to your emotions.”

Actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach talks about the importance of striving to do more than just thinking when you're acting, because then you're not doing. He notes the job is to show up and really be there.

Fashion designer Patrick Robinson has worked for such names as Giorgio Armani, Anne Klein, Perry Ellis, and Paco Rabanne.
In the video, he says "You build the world that you want to live in. It can be as small as you want it to be, as small as you make it, really - or this massive place of learning and wonder and exploration, and excitement and thrill."
He thinks what makes him work hard is "never really believing I've done it, or figured it all out."

article: How To Create New Possibilities In Your Life , By Morty Lefkoe
"Some people are convinced we create our own reality by focusing on what we desire with strong emotion. Others are just as convinced that that idea is New Age nonsense. But regardless of which position is valid, it is unquestionably true that we literally create new possibilities in our lives—a brand new reality—by eliminating limiting beliefs."

You think you're so smart.

A number of movies include gifted and talented characters, and depict a variety of characteristics that are positive and relate to exceptional abilities, but also can generate not so positive reactions - such as "You think you're so smart," or, "You're too verbal... too bossy... too nerdy... too sensitive."
And, of course, we may still experience some of those reactions as adults.
Movie clips include Matilda (1996, with Mara Wilson, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman); Little Man Tate (1991,directed by and starring Jodie Foster, with Dianne Wiest, Adam Hann-Byrd); Phoebe in Wonderland (2008, Elle Fanning, Patricia Clarkson); Akeelah and the Bee (2006, Keke Palmer, Laurence Fishburne); Akeelah and the Bee (2006, Keke Palmer, Laurence Fishburne).

Commentary by Douglas Eby, creator of the Talent Development Resources site.
Heath Ledger won an Academy Award for his creation of the Joker in The Dark Knight. His partner Michelle Williams said, “I think the interesting thing about Heath, which maybe people have only really fully discovered in his death, is how vulnerable he was.
"You can pick up on it in his performances, but it’s easy to overlook because he was so physical and beautiful and strong and masculine. But there was always that underlying sensitivity. That's who he was."
She also said, "He had too much energy. His mind was turning, turning, turning - always turning."
[nydailynews.com March 14th 2008]
Ledger’s father once commented, “Heath doesn’t want to even squash an ant. He worries about everything. He’s very soft inside.”
Johnny Depp, starring in Public Enemies, once commented in an interview, "I'm able to express better the feelings of those who are a little outside. I don't consider myself an outsider, but neither completely integrated in the society... Tim (Burton) and I share this kind of sensitivity, this way of understanding or not understanding the world."
[From DOUBLE JOHNNY, by L. Messina, D la Repubblica delle Donne, 25th September 2001]
Depp has talked about getting drunk earlier in his career to deal with his sensitivity and having to go to functions like press appearances: "I guess I was trying not to feel anything.”

Author and researcher Dr. Elaine Aron notes the trait of high sensitivity is found in 15 to 20% of the population - just as many men as women. That means millions of us.
But, she adds, "Men really have to struggle to hide their sensitivity or they are seen as not very manly."
In a post on his site, Edward Mills writes about being "mostly stoic, emotionally unavailable, intellectually focused" but also discovering he is a highly sensitive person.
He says, "I have come to accept my sensitivity as a gift and a powerful ally on my journey of personal evolution."
