One of the really great things about having a local vinyl scene are the people that come out to support it, and did they ever for Gunnzo's open house in San Diego. It was a beautiful day, the temp was about 78 with a light breeze and the view from the back porch of the quaint little vinyl shop in Old Town, San Diego was to die for! Guest Judges kaNO, Paul Kaiju, Jose Reynoso and John"Spanky"Stokes were also on hand, showing their support for the scene, but were also involved with picking the winners for the 2 custom contests. To top off the night, newcomer Jose Reynoso revealed his new "Gumpy" figure and actually gave away a prototype to one lucky attendee!

We were given the opportunity to review this really cool product titled " Babu Cloud " designed by the guys over at Babekuhl. This is their first of hopefully many vinyl figures from thier "Lucy In The Sky With Vinyl" series. Keep your eye out for the release of Babu's friends ( and enemies ) as his epic tale of life and love plays out in the heavens above. Babu is available in limited numbers in Banana split ( yellow ) Strawberry cheesecake( pink ) , Mint Chip ( green ) and Blueberry sorbet ( Blue ) , each one of these colorways are $50USD. Each piece measures 4.13" tall, and is packaged with a Golden hand-numbered box in Babekuhl’s trademark “Firmament” print. These are recommended to purchase even though the price is a little steep, really cool figure!

Last night at Gunnzo, I was on hand to cover the latest release of the new Dunny series from Kidrobot! This series titled "Dunny Series 2009" had some really great designs by a ton of great artists, and the turnout for this release was more than double than the last release. I was only there for about 3omin and they had already sold over 10 cases, and by the time the night was over 17 full cases were gone! Chika, the owener of Gunnzo was so kind and had beverages and had arranged to have Ben & Jerry's on hand thanks to Ephraim of the Seaport Village location! He also brought out some of his collection to show off as well! The event was great, and a ton of people brought out their dupes as well as other misc items to trade, and there was a TON of trading going on! Everyone was in good spirits and jose2187 from the KR boards was there spreading out some AMAZING toy karma when he gave away an 8" Kozik pink hate Dunny to one lucky random collector, rock on dude, super nice! If you get a chance check out the Gunnzo online store...they have a grip of rare items that have been long sold out everywhere...even hard to find prints!

I was able to make it down this past Saturday to an amazing art show that happened in San Diego at the Device Gallery. This show apply titled "Assembled Artifacts" was just that... amazing creations that were put together by visionary artists that used random bits of metal, porcelain, resin, wood, wire and even found objects such as old vacuum cleaners. The artist list included: Christopher Conte, Stephane Halleux, Michihuro Matsuoka, Jeremy Mayer, Rich Muller, Nemo Gould, Olivier Pauwels, Lewis Tardy and Jud Turner. this video was shot using the FLIP UltraHD video camera.

The Cranston Fellows Jr. release event went off without a hitch last Friday, August 28, 2009, and the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement for the release of Lou Pimentel's first production piece. This amazing little devil was released at MyPlasticHeart in NYC and it was produced by MPHLabs. This limited edition resin figure stands at 4.5 inches tall, sports a 9 inch wingspan, and had a welcome reception into the hands of all that came out to make the purchase! A huge thanks goes out to Jessie aka J*Ryu for making the trip to NYC and shooting all this amazing video and a ton of pics, also to Lou for creating such an amazing figure, congrats man!

WOW...talk about limited edition!!! Back on June 24th 2009, ThreeA toys turned one year old, and in order to celebrate they sold this amazing Bambaboss DIY edition vinyl figure! This figure came with three different face plates, and he stands a whopping 11" tall, nearly 13 inches to the tip of his smoke. The crazy thing about this sale is that it was only available for 24 hours, and will never be available again! This sold for only $46, which included the shipping, crazy good deal! Another cool aspect about the limited stock on this is that ThreeA wants customizers to really kill this platform and once they are through they are going to feature it up on their site via their Online Bambaboss Gallery!

Cliff and Sean from MonstreHero took the trip and made it to Comic Con 2009 to show off all their goods! They had a couple new resin figures that debut at the con including DUMPSTERBOT and awesome resin dumpster that had ball jointed articulated arms, and a lid that actually opened and closed where you can store all the extra body parts from your Victims, as well as SKULLMINION, a rad square headed "lucha" type figure made of resin with articulated arms as well! They also had some sweet new t-shirts that spelled out MONSTREHERO in a guts pattern, really sweet!

While at San Diego Comic Con 2009 I was fortunate enough to pick up these awesome sushi creations! The blue version of the toy titled "O-No Sushi Blue" is the premiere edition of this fine food product and this awesome exclusive piece was limited to only 150 pieces and retailed for $30! The standard "O-No Sushi Red" edition, based directly off of Andrew Bell's popular "Never Look Back" art print, will be available at fine toy and culture retailers both on-line and off beginning this August, and this will cost $25! This figure is amazing from the paint to the packaging, this figure has it all!

Once again Bwana Spoons and the Grass hut crew had a great showing at this years Comic-Con. They all had some amazing customs up for sale not only in toy format but a ton of original artwork as well. We as a crowd also got to participate in the first annual San Diego Comic-Con pencil fight, ( very similar to the other pencil fights that have happened on their tour, but way better because I was there :- ) where the lucky winner walked away with a couple customs and an og piece of art from Bwana. Le Merde was also on hand with a ton of his fantastic resin pieces, as well as Martin and Scrappers who also had an amazing showing this year at the Con!

Well Strangekiss had a ton of great stuff once again this year at Comic Con, this time around they released they awesome figure " Yeti" created by David Lanham . The Yeti came in three different versions created well known artists! The versions are as follows: MAD's ( Gangsta Bill) , Kozik's (Mantra Bill) , and David Lanham's (OG Bill) . These are now available online for sale through the Strangekiss site HERE ! That was just the tip of the iceberg, they also had customs for sale by artist Wuzone , as well as many new prototypes of the Fetch and Maxswell figures by David, as well as a new proto by Kozik and a really cool figure of Twitterrific’s "Ollie" was also there in 2 versions! This weekend is the BIG weekend for the papertoy community! On Saturday May 2, 2009 there will be the official release party of Urban Paper, a great new book that showcases some awesome paper art from the biggies in the industry! Brian Castleforte aka Nicebunny, Christopher Bonnette and Matt Hawkins will be on hand to sign books, and there will also be a papertoy art show featuring one of a kind works from many of the designers featured in the book. This event is kicking off at 7:00pm on Saturday May 2nd at Mobius in LA, and I will be on hand to cover the event, so if you do make it out, be sure to get my attention and say hello. This should be a really fun event, and all of the artist attending are super cool, so stop by, and support the awesomness that is papercraft
