Rome, 22 January 2009 - For Stephen Rudgard, FAO, if we do share properly, we can achieve results that otherwise would take much longer to achieve. However effective knowledge sharing is not the traditional business of FAO, which is classically not an informal organisation. FAO meetings are in fact often just events where a series of governmental statements are read, and a series of statements don't establish a better understanding of the problems, and how to tackle them. With the Share Fair, a certain degree of informality is creeping into the way FAO works, and FAO colleagues are appreciating the format of the event, the way the sessions are being handled and facilitated., with participants "talking from the heart" instead of reading prepared statements. This is a key way of how FAO could change it's way of operating.
