This is a short taste of Peter Barton's fiction screenplay about disabled Iraq veterans who form a springboard DIVING team at their rehab facility. Two of them, Jerry and Randy, share guilt for their injuries, caused by a fumbled grenade. They also share a longing for their night nurse, Marie, a burnt-out war widow who, more to boost her own morale than to improve her patients', launches the Brew Angels, named after their favorite fuel.
The exhibition diving team creates a groundswell of publcity for their hospital, threatening with closing, and helps the two combat partners untangle their post-traumatic remorse.
It's our hope that we can cast real veteran/amputees in amputee roles in the movie. One vet, Garth Stewart, was kind enough to help us out in creating this demo.
Developing this screenplay led us to launch a website where veterans can tell their stories: harvestinghistory.org. Check out a preview/sampler at: http://blip.tv/file/1114965
