http://www.instablogs.com/ LTTE crushed Mr. Rajapaksa’s tough line on the Tamils, conduct of the war and this unparalleled victory has made him extremely popular in Sri Lanka. He can take satisfaction from the army’s successes, which appear to have rectified years of incompetent campaigning against the Tigers, including many spectacular reversals. The victory comes after two and a half years of offensive much criticized abroad. The world may hold us responsible for human rights abuse and hundreds of disappearances but it should not forget that it is our sovereign right to protect our territorial integrity. This victory would at least ensure that the majority live in an environment of peace and security. Kenyan Media The Kenyan media now faces suppression after president Kibaki signed a law meant to gag press freedom. The media has mourned, the whole country has protested but president Kibaki is not moved. Even after immense petitions from all corners, not to append his signature to the newly amended Communication Act (2008), the head of state went ahead and signed the now destructive law. The law advocates for the closure of radio and TV stations that are seen to be critical of the government. "The president’s move has caused confusion in the coalition government forcing the Prime minister’s party to issue new threats over the running of government matters, saying the party could demand fresh agreement with the coalition partner. The cracks in the coalition arose from President Kibaki decision to sign into law the Bill seeking to control broadcasting content which the prime minister says were done without consultations. Veil made compulsory in Pakistan University The decision to impose veils while also denying any external pressure sounds disappointing because it violates basic human rights especially the rights of women. It becomes even more when done in the name Islam since takes pride in advocating basic human rights. Imposing veils on women is an open instance of policing male chauvinism and dictatorship against the opposite gender. We are going to expect such a decree from fundamentalist element but not at all from a government university. This alarming rule is also a sign of the increasing influence of fundamentalism that is hostile to women and treats them as object of male desire. Hopefully such injustice will not spread to other educational institutes of higher learning in the country. King Abdullah of Jordan organizes blood donation camp His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan started a blood donation camp last week in order to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This is the least contribution we can make for our brothers in Gaza King Abdullah stated. Adding that Jordanians feel that the ongoing ordeal of Palestinians people to who we are the closest nation. The campaign prepared three major branches in the city to receive donors in the city of Amman as well as four locations in other Jordanian cities. The professional associations’ council estimated that more than 700 Jordanians went to the various locations in Amman everyday to donate blood. Jordan’s Hashemite organization society said that meanwhile more than 68 trucks were sent to Gaza with food, medical supplies and blood units. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ Pakistan given Mumbai evidence Until now Pakistan successfully evaded any action against the terror suspects operating form its soil on the pretext that India never shared the evidence with Pakistan. Now with the facts provided to them including "material from the interrogation of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab" - the sole surviving gunman from the attacks, who is in Indian custody, Pakistani authorities must act immediately to dismantle the terrorist network. Pakistan must understand the terror groups operating from its soil pose a threat both to the international peace and security of the entire world and its own. Therefore instead of beating the war drums and rejecting the Indian accusations as mere speculation Pakistan must act fast to rein in terror groups. LTTE defeated Sri Lankans may rejoice their victory but this sense of elation will not last for very long. The government has already earned itself bad press by denying access to the media from war zone. The war has been marked by appalling human-rights abuses by both sides, including hundreds of disappearances and alleged murders of Tamil youths by government agents. The government has blocked aid agencies making efforts to bring relief. Sinhalese chauvinists have always bullied Tamils by denying them even the modest regional autonomy promised by the Sri Lankan constitution. The Tamils can never forget the atrocities perpetrated upon them by the Sri Lankans. Soon the Tamil resistance shall raise its head and achieve its dream of a Tamil homeland. Corruption in Afghanistan Afghanistan’s democratically elected government under President Hamid Karzai to large scale corruption and misuse of power. Any government services come with bribe locally known as `shrini’ which means sweetener bribe manifests in many forms from the lowest person right to the top officers of the government are the recipients of the bribe. President Karzai’s brother is also believed to be deeply involved in large scale corruption particularly heroin trade that goes unnoticed due to his blood relation with the top of the country. This corruption according to Afghans does not have a long history since the communist who ruled Afghanistan in the 1980’s and were honest than the Mujahedeen’s of 1990 and the present setup. Complaints of corruption in the small and large things could be heard in Kabul. Common citizens are fast losing their confidence in the government of President Hamid Karzai which obviously is very bad news for the President since he intends to run for the second consecutive term for the office of the President of Afghanistan in April this year. Worlds.com sues NC Soft MMO giant, NC soft, has been accused of infringing on patents put in place by Worlds.com believes that NC Soft’s products infringe on their “System and Method for Enabling Users to Interact in a Virtual Space” patent. Of all NC soft games the most notable ones guild wars, City of Heroes, City of Villains and tabula Rasa. In my opinion this is a bold move by a company that as just decided to come out of the wood work. I ask them one question. Why now, could it be agreed, no – I think it is something else, possibly to prove a point that these big companies can’t be challenged? A smart move on board for going after NC before even trying. With a win under the belt that will give them extra leverage when trying their luck against a multi billion dollar company, good luck. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ Kenya electoral reforms The electoral commission of Kenya has finally been sent home, Parliament disbanded the body sending home its chairman, and his team of 21 commissioners. The Bill, which amends Section 47 of the Constitution also provides for a referendum law and establishes an interim Constitutional Court to preside over disputes that are likely to arise from the review process. The interim commission has the mandate to carry out wide ranging electoral reforms, register voters afresh and install new systems of tallying votes to ensure that elections are free, fair and credible. President Kibaki has already signed it into law. According to the government the interim commission will restore the confidence of Kenyans in the electoral system as recommended by the Kriegler report on last year’s disputed presidential elections. Gaza blockade The UN's relief agency for Palestinian refugees has suspended a food distribution program that feeds more than 750,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after Israel blocked food deliveries for days. In a statement, UNRWA said that as of Thursday morning all regular food-aid programs have ceased to operate. The agency is giving no date on which programs may resume. The UN organization that provides basic foodstuffs to Gaza's poorest residents said that despite assurances from Israel that a shipment of grain for the humanitarian organization would be allowed into the Strip on 9-10 December, the shipment was turned back and warehouses in Gaza are empty. According to UNRWA all crossings for goods into the Strip are closed. Bonus,Profit,Wall Street The rancidity of Wall Street is almost beyond belief, and the culture of enormous bonuses for doing a crappy job stretches far beyond CEOs. One executive at Merrill Lynch got a $35-million bonus in 2006, for bundling un-sound home loans into bonds. Breathtakingly bad business practices, to put it mildly, but these people get hundreds of billions of dollars just for asking. And meanwhile, GM and Chrysler, giant corporations run brilliantly by comparison to the Wall Street giants, get raked over the coals when they ask for a relative pittance in loans, not hand-outs? That's the view from the top, and here's the view from the bottom, where hundreds line up for a few dozen jobs at a new fast-food place in Vegas. Obama really has some work to do. Bundelkhand drought The rain Gods have finally taken note of the plight of drought hit farmers from Bundelkhand. The current year has been particularly lucky for the region received more than average rainfall this year. Last five years of drought has pushed the agriculture into dismal state. Most families in the region have suffered from massive crop failures and livestock depletion. This gave birth to a number of other associated problems like indebtedness, maintenance and survival of cattle, health issues and exploitation of different social groups like women, children, dalits and tribals etc. people have been migrating to Delhi and Mumbai to save their lives. Rainfall is good news for the region however it will take sometime before crops get harvested and food grains be brought home. http://www.instablogs.com/

In the West, the Seattle area and other parts of Washington state were hit, with the heaviest blast in a week of snow storms. Precipitation in the New York metropolitan area was largely confined to rain, washing away much of the snow and ice that was dumped on the region during Friday's storm. But low visibility and winds spelled delays at the three major New York region airports of one to two hours on arriving and departing flights. http://www.instablogs.com/ Caroline Kennedy next NY Senator! Heir to one of America’s political dynasties Caroline Kennedy is keen to join Family business as New York Senator, once Hillary Rodham Clinton dons the role of Secretary of State next month. There can’t be a better candidate from a New York perspective, but not all New Yorkers seem keen on the idea primarily due to her lack of political experience. She is someone who has no knowledge or interest in money and underlying economic questions facing the state, especially when both city and state face multi billion dollar deficits. Caroline daughter of 35th US President John F. Kennedy has been around politics all of her life and has built-in appeal and name recognition, but being a candidate is a different ball game.” No doubt she has a steep learning curve to climb. Only time will tell, whether her seemingly gentle presence can survive New York’s brutal political culture. RSS, VHP and Hindu Tamils Sri Lankan government must take serious note of radical Hindu groups from India declaring support to Hindu Tamils after an Indian Tamil MP alleged attacks by security forces on Hindu temples in the island. We can never allow such groups to meddle in our internal affairs given the huge social, economic, human cost paid by us to preserve our integrity. Other than launching an Inquiry into alleged incident the country’s constitution should also recognize the different ethnic, religious and cultural identities of Sri Lanka. They could be Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim. This recognition will erase sense of insecurity and help minorities invest faith in establishment’s ability to protect their identity. It must, however, be noted that no one should grudge the predominant place allocated to Buddhism on account of its unique contribution to Sri Lankan civilization. Afghan women burning Among hundreds of different kinds of problems Afghan women face one more serious problem is the burning of women where over 5000 people report with burn injuries in the hospitals a large portion of them are women who suffer the most. According to the Minister of Health Mohammad Amin Fatami different reasons including economics, social and illicit practices responsible for such cases. Mr. Fatami agrees that in certain cases due to family honor or cruelty inflicted on them the suffering women have no choice but to burn themselves in an effort to commit suicide. Such practices are more frequent such as in the western province of Herat. After the fall of fundamentalist Taliban regime the women groups watchdog were triumphant that now time has come for liberation of Afghan women who suffer under different regimes in different contexts. Unfortunately same religious fanatics are ruling under new names in different parts of the country. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com Media in Pakistan The arrival of private TV channels, news websites and private print publications has certainly broken the monotony of few government dominated media channels, the sole means of information available to the public of the country a decade ago. Nonetheless, the goal of maintaining a free media still remains an ideal yet to attain, as the Musharraf government imposed its own biases on certain ethnic population of the country especially in Baluchistan. This dictatorial policy has not only thwarted the coverage of problems related to the troubled regions but also violated the basic human right to present human problems in one’s own society. At the present moment journalists all over the country need to get more organized and strive together as a single body for freedom of speech against authoritative oppression. Jew-Muslim Hebron clash The violence in Hebron is a never end story. It has started long time ago after the Israeli occupation that took place in 1967. Since that time, Israeli authorities took every needed action to enhance and increase the Jewish population and touch by building big settlements and taking many lands that belong to Palestinians by force. When it comes to Hebron, it is always about history and religion for both Jewish and Muslims. The core issue for such conflict is always the old city of Hebron and specifically, the Ibrahim Mosque (according to Jews it is called Abraham cave), which is the heart of the old city. And the cause of most of the conflicts between settlers and Palestinians population. Mexican Doctors protest drug crime Hundreds of doctors wearing surgical masks, demonstrated Friday in Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso, Texas to protest a wave of kidnappings and death threats targeting the medical community. They also held a 24-hour work stoppage. Doctors have been caught in the middle of Mexico's drug war, for treating the wounded. Some speculate that drug cartels are targeting businesses and the medical community to supplement income amid a government crackdown. The City's Medical College says 32 doctors have received death threats, and six have been kidnapped in the last year. http://www.instablogs.com

http://www.instablogs.com/ Congress retains power in Delhi This is the third time that the congress has been voted to power in the Delhi Assembly elections. Congress however elated it might get over this victory it should not forget that this is its last chance to prove that they can ensure the safety and integrity of its people. The recent Mumbai have highlighted the Singh government’s failure in ensuring the safety of the common man. Having won current referendum, the third term will be a litmus test for the government to prove its credentials in terms of ensuring internal security. With Delhi set to host international events such as the Asian Games, congress will get plenty of grounds to prove its potential Gaza Truce in danger As expected during the last 3 weeks, Palestinian fractions in Gaza have re-put the truce on table again for discussion. Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials held the first of a series of meetings regarding the fate of the Gaza ceasefire on Tuesday evening at the home of Hamas leader Ayman Taha. Hamas announced the meeting as the beginning of a series of consultations about the ceasefire with other Palestinian factions in Gaza. The truce, already shaken by three weeks of siege, deadly Israeli incursions, and Palestinian rocket fire, expires on 19 December. Kenya hit by maize shortage It’s now one week after Kenya was hit by a serious shortage of maize flour, one of the precious commodities that does not miss in every house hold. Kenyans are now facing hunger as the price of the staple meal continue to shoot up becoming unaffordable to the poor as the shortage remains elusive. Prime Minister Raila Odinga recently blamed the shortage on poor harvests and high food prices in the international market. In a different twist Agriculture minister has said the shortage is artificial and blamed millers whom he has accused of refusing to buy maize directly from farmers. Even as the Government and millers differ over who was to blame for the shortage, a consumer organisation has called for the introduction of price controls to ensure that the flour, which is used to make the staple ugali meal, remains affordable to the poor. Praying for an end to drug war Thousands of Buddhists, Roman Catholics, Christian Evangelicals, Hare Krishnas and Jews joined in Tijuana to pray for an end to Mexico's drug war, which has killed some 4,500 people this year. Mexico is facing spiraling drug violence, especially along its border with the United States, and cities such as Tijuana are seeing horrendous levels of crime, with bodies set on fire, cut up and dumped in acid and strung over highways. Beheadings, kidnappings and daylight shootings have become a daily occurrence as vicious drug cartels fight over smuggling routes into the United States. We are Catholics, Evangelicals, Buddhists, Hare Krishnas and Jews who are tired of the violence, with God as our only hope. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ India always blames Pakistan for everything destructive and for any kind of attack in the past. in the Mumbai attack they have done the same thing and blamed Pakistan but we are not afraid of any threat from India and can face any situation as patriotic Pakistanis. If they come for peace we will come and if they want war we most welcome them. So India needs to be careful with any decision that it takes because response will always be there. Indians have always Pakistan for their own internal problems. The recent incidents in Mumbai have proven their incompetency of indian security agencies to the whole world. Blaming Pakistani is now important for them so that they can regain the confidence of their masses and turn the attention of the masses from the recent incidents and their own lapses in security. So far as the Mumbai crisis : we condemn the described incidents and things that besides blaming each other both the countries should jointly make efforts to investigate such situation and create mutual understanding against this war on terrorism and also for the sustainable peace in Asia I think that will be much more better not only for both the countries India and Pakistan and also for the whole belt of Central Asia. War may be a consideration at the political level of existing Indo-Pak tension but it does not exist anywhere in the thoughts of lay people in Pakistan. They reject the very mention of war as a possibility on account of terrorist violence in any of the two countries. Both commonsense and goodwill encompass the way of thinking because the war will affect innocent civilians on both sides the very idea of which is absurd. For India and Pakistan, its time to get closer than before so as to defuse this threat of terrorism that is eating away them away as developing nations. Well done Mr. Unnikrishann, these politicians don’t deserve any better treatment. Mr. Achuthanandan’s conduct was particularly disgusting on two counts. He may be excused for the first one, involving the delay in showing respect to the slain soldier in person but nothing can absolve him of the second. The Chief Mnister could have at east ordered his security staff to put off the practice of using sniffer dogs at Mr. Unnikrishann’s residence where the slain martyr’s body had been kept to pay the last respects. This was a house in mourning not some terrorist hideout which threatened Mr. Achuthanadan’s already wasted life. He volunteered himself for an operation not assigned to him. Men like Achuthanandan tread the thoroughfare trampled by people consumed by selfish beings, martyrs’ like Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan walk the less traveled road and are always remembered for their courage and bravery. US must work hands and gloves with the Indian government to root and destroy the terrorist networks that have held the entire world hostage. The coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism. Our sympathies go out to the families and friends of those killed and injured, and to the people of Mumbai. Most importantly the attacks had larger implications that seemed to also target westerners while suggesting that this was not a localized attack arising from home-grown militancy. The apparent focus on killing or capturing foreign businesspeople, specifically US and UK nationals, has never occurred before, suggesting a wider global anti-Western agenda. This stands in contrast to the national issues that appeared to motivate Indian Mujahideen. The world should take a note of this. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ New sophisticated face of terror For how long will the innocent civilians continue losing their lives while the government remains a mute spectator to their killings? Government incompetence is pushing us into the mouth of death. I believe that instead of trying to pacify and assure people the government should take concrete steps. This would be the actual tribute to those who’ve lost their lives in the terror attacks. Anything else would be mere pretence. The most important question is that can a government deprived of political will take such steps. Time has come for the political parties to humanely analyze the situation instead of examining it politically. Israeli army defies court orders New report published by Ha'aretz, one of the biggest and widely distributed newspapers in Israel, about Israeli army assassinating operations. Report said The Israeli army has been assassinating wanted West Bank Palestinians in spite of the High Court of Justice's guidelines. High-level military officials approved assassinations in the West Bank, "even when it could have been possible to arrest the targets instead," according to the Ha'aretz report. This means of course a sort of a field and quick execution process. Army officers authorized the killings in advance; "in writing, even if innocent bystanders would be killed as well," the report goes on to say. Taliban controls bordering areas of Kabul The news of army’s control is now there in many leading news sources of the world. However there has’nt been any independent confirmation of the claim. Natives of Kabul and Peshawar have failed to connect with their family and friends in their hometown and the telephone network seems to be out of function. Whether or not the army has actually claimed the complete control of Kabul still needs to be verified by local residents of the area. Lately a native of Kabul has denied the claim of complete control and said that Taliban is still fighting the military forces with heavy shelling from both the sides. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com Jordanian protest against Gaza blockade Hundreds of Jordanians walked through the streets of Amman in two different marches this week protesting against the siege of Gaza. The protests were organized by Islamic action front and permitted by the Jordanian authority. The two protest attempted to direct the international community attention to non humanitarian conditions in Gaza who’s shutting down of cargo crossing and consequently preventing food medicine and fuel to going in. fuel shipments held from being sent to Gaza’s main power plant has caused daily electrical blackouts for many of the Palestinians living there. This siege around Gaza has caused the death of more than a hundred people due to diseases untreated as well as death of animals due to unmet nutritional needs. Mexican crime reporter shot dead Armando Rodriguez said goodbye to his wife and two of their children and climbed into the car with his oldest girl, Ximena. As Rodriguez warmed up his car, an unknown gunman fired repeatedly into his body as Ximena watched . Increasingly, such murders are an ordinary part of life for Mexico's reporters. The country is now one of the world's most dangerous for journalists. Rodriguez had worked for El Diario Newspaper in Cd. Juarez, the heart of Mexico’s drug war. No one knows who murdered Rodriguez, but it is obvious those behind Rodriguez's death clearly intended to frighten journalists, newpapers and electronic news outlets into avoiding coverage of cartel crime and terrorism. The implications are enormous. If reporters like Armando Rodriguez can be silenced without punishment, Mexican civil society will be forced accept the cartels' version of reality. Angered by India’s over cautious approach Tibet has been an emotional issue for India, especially after Dalai Lama fled here in 1959. Walking the diplomatic tight rope Nehru cited his decision to give asylum as a sentimental move and not political. Since then political realities have changed. China has emerged is the new Asian giant that every nation wants to befriend and not annoy, so does India. Our relations with China have improved and even our bilateral trade is improving. Why should we spoil this developing relationship by raising an issue which everyone else has given up? Why should India choose to fight for Tibetan independence when Dalai Lama himself is ready to settle down with autonomy under the Chinese. Last month Britain dealt the Tibetans a deadly blow by announcing unconditional recognition of China's absolute authority over Tibet. Either ways an Independent or an autonomous Tibet is an outdated concept, no use beating the dead horse. Kenya eyes Telemedicine Telemedicine is not a common term in the Kenyan medical sector however not so new.And with the escalating cases of misdiagnosis in Kenyan hospitals, telemedicine has been cited as the only way to bring to an end such cases. This year, Kenya has had three major cases of amputation because of wrong treatment. There have been unreported cases of deaths especially among children, after doctors administered drugs without identifying the real cause of the children’s illnesses. The plan involves connecting all hospitals in Kenya with the Internet, partly to help doctors make informed diagnoses and even consult their colleagues via secured Internet traffic before they administer any drugs. With the new initiative, doctors manning rural dispensaries will be able to order medical supplies directly from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) at the touch of a button. This will largely benefit rural areas which have had a history of poor medical coverage. http://www.instablogs.com

http://www.instablogs.com/ US and Iraq approve security pact The pact signed between US and Iraq which stipulates that U.S. troops to be withdrawn from all Iraqi cities and towns by June 30, 2009 is definitely in the best interests of both the countries. Giving control of Baghdad to Iraqi security forces although doable, will be an extremely challenging task. Violence has plunged in the capital city since surge operations were launched in Iraq last year. But there are still frequent, dramatic attacks that often target Iraqi citizens. Also US needs time to address logistical challenges in order to withdraw all U.S. forces from Iraq given the huge amount of equipment and infrastructure now under the U.S. flag in Iraq. In the end this was the only best way to get troops quickly out of Iraq so that they can be transferred to Afghanistan to battle Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters. Nepal protests over alleged Maoist murders Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal is now hot due to the protest against the murder of two boys by young communist league (YCL), sister organization of Maoist, leading ruler of present Nepal. It is said that YCL abducted and murdered two boys of Kathmandu, Nirmal and Pushkar. They were disappered for one month and finally their dead body was found in Bhorlefant of Dhading district near Kathmandu. Initially, Maoist have denied for their participation in this incident. But the evidences show that they are directly involved in this crime. On the eve of second anniversary of signing comprehensive peace accord, once again they became controversial. Before it, they were shamed by the murder of a journalist of Bara district and merchant of Capital city. Due to these incidents, impunity is raising. This type of impunity and crime must be ended and Maoist needs to improve itself. Brazilian farmers vs Paraguayan landless peasants In recent years, tensions between Brazilians and Paraguayans are increasing. What is causing this is the strong presence of Brazilian farmers who grow soybeans in Paraguayan territory. These farmers bought their land decades ago, but Paraguayan peasant movement claim that the farms that belong to the Brazilians are illegal. The attacks which before were only invasions, now includes the murder of Brazilians. The tension grew even more when a few days after this episode, "accidentally", the Brazilian army invaded the Paraguayan territory. Since tensions have started, the Brazilian government is trying to convince the Paraguayan government to adopt repressive measures against the xenophobic movement against Brazilians. It is not yet possible to say that the Paraguayan government can contain this movement xenophobic, but for the good of the people of both countries, any solution must be found Brazilian farmers have said that if necessary, leave the Paraguay if properly compensated for their losses. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ Mexican military patrols Tijuana In the government's latest effort to flush out corrupt police, Mexican Military Troops removed 500 local police officers and took over law enforcement in Tijuana, where drug hitmen have killed over 220 people, including children, in the past month. The army aims eventually to suspend the remaining 1,500 officers and gradually rid the Tijuana force of corrupt police where some officers openly work as hitmen for drug gangs. Widespread corruption among Mexico's badly paid police is undermining President Felipe Calderon's army-backed war on drug gangs. Mexico must continue purging corrupt officers while increasing pay and incentives to loyal, non corrupt officials. Surge in racist crimes after Obama victory Barack Obama's historic election as America's first black president has led to a surge of racist incidents across the United States. Since the closing weeks of the campaign, there has been a real and significant, white backlash break out which is only getting worse. Hundreds of incidents of cross burnings, death threats, Obama effigies hanging in nooses to ugly racial incidents in schoolyards across the country are getting reported with increased regularity. The increase in racist incidents can be attributed to the non-white immigration and rising unemployment. Add to all of that the idea of a black man in the White House and you have a very significant number of whites who feel as if they've lost everything, that the country built by their forefathers has somehow been stolen from them. It seems that whites within America have begun experiencing identity crisis. Ballot empowers women Usually, the word Kargil brings back memories of the India-Pakistan conflict of 1999 when Pakistani intruders walked miles into Indian Territory leading to skirmishes which gradually grew into what came to be known later as Kargil war. Amid it all, Kargil district stands out as a shining example of empowerment of women at the grassroots level, by way of enfranchisement. Despite sub zero temperature enthusiasm of voters was high as they were seen in long queues in front of polling stations hours before the polling started. The reports indicated that women in traditional colorful attire out-numbered the men at the polling stations. The district has more female voters than male voters. Perhaps no other district in the entire north India, in any of the states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh or Uttaranchal enjoys this distinction. There is still hope for women’s empowerment in J%K through ballot. http://www.instablogs.com/

http://www.instablogs.com/ Israel allows aid into Gaza Strip After more than 10 days of full closure of the Gaza Strip crossing points, unconfirmed reports said that nearly 33 aid trucks carrying humanitarian equipment, food and medications will be let to enter into the Gaza Strip. The mentioned trucks are all UNRWA aids. These reports were published by Israeli media outlets Monday morning despite an earlier decision by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to keep crossings closed. Sunday saw a series of homemade projectile launches executed by Palestinian resistance factions towards Israeli targets, though no injuries on the Israeli side were reported. Early in the day Israeli air forces carried out an air raid killing four activists, and in the early evening explosions were heard in Gaza. However, despite all the media of retaliation, says of all involved parties claimed that everyone is concern to keep the truce and not to keep going on military and violence actions. Nepal to face major power shortage in winters Nepal, the Himalaya country has to face 14 hours of daily power cut this winter. Nepal's electricity authority says that due to the damage of lines that transmit power imported from India and low water levels in reservoirs that drive hydroelectric plants. According to the officials, last koshi floods in Nepal has swept away transmission lines used to import electricity from neighboring India and cannot be repaired by winter. Nepalese people are facing power cut problem for the long time. Load shedding has caused negative impact for the whole nation. Industries have been closed and many official tasks have been hampered. This problem may be reduced if the government initiates timely maintenance of the equipments, control the leakage and collect the dues. Otherwise, the power cut will definitely affect the entire mechanism of the nation. G20 calls for more market oversight Facing the gravest economic crisis in decades, the leaders of the G20 countries agreed Saturday to work together to revive their economies, but they put off thornier decisions about how to overhaul financial regulations until next year. Nicholas Sarkozy, the French and European President, favors more state control over markets, even to the point of granting regulators cross-border authority. The United States does not. Sarkozy, who first suggested that Bush organize the meeting, said after it, : "I am a friend of the United States of America, but if you ask if the meeting was easy, I'll say no, it wasn't." He said that he hadn't flown to Washington "simply for the pleasure of travelling." Protests against gay marriage ban Crowds gathered near public buildings in small communities and major cities including New York, San Francisco and Chicago to vent their frustration, celebrate gay relationships and renew calls for change. This issue is one of basic rights that must be afforded to all citizens. People who love each other should be allowed to be recognized in their lives as married. What is so wrong with that? Basic human rights cannot exclude gays and lesbians. Those who are opposed to gay marriages are typical of those who are bigoted, uniformed, and ignorant of equality for all. Change is inevitable in a democracy where equal rights are a backbone and state and religion are separate. These protests are just the beginning. It happened with women, it happened with people of different races, it happened with physically challenged people, and it will happen with homosexuals. http://www.instablogs.com/
