This video demonstrates the use of toner, made with dye, to add color to a woodworking project. In this episode, I use toner to change the existing color of a set of French doors. These doors are for my clients so this is a live project. This is not a comprehensive dissertation on the use of dyes and toner. I am limited to the use of what is necessary to complete this particular project, but the principles and the basics are very well applied and demonstrated. The most difficult part of making furniture is creating the design. I share some of the thought process for creating my Shaker inspired bench. I also share a little about the construction of this beautiful piece of furniture. Some woodworkers may wonder what joinery is acceptable or taboo in their project, it will surprise many woodworkers what type of joinery I used in this bench. I share some construction technique but this is not intended to be a "how to" video. Instead, it is a video that shares some of the principles that I considered when creating this bench. I hope that the thoughts and techniques shared in this video will help other woodworkers with the design and construction of their projects.

Many woodworkers lack confidence in their glue joints. The way to overcome that is by getting to know your products and materials. This is accomplished by experimenting and testing - particularly through destructive testing. In this video I show a couple of the methods that I use to test my glue joints. Testing your joints to the point of wood failure will give you quite a bit of information. Close examination of the results will allow you to understand if you may suffer product failure in your product or if your woodworking techniques are falling short. The American Craftsman Workshop - Sharpening Cabinet Scrapers - Episode 1

This video is for any woodworker that has difficulty learning how to sharpen a cabinet scraper or card scraper (I use the terms interchangeably.) I use a very simple method of sharpening this tool using only a few strokes on a mill file. Typical methods are very complicated and frustrating for many woodworkers and the cabinet scraper ends up lying in the bottm of a tool drawer never to be used. I find this a shame because it is an amazing tool and I could not live without it in my shop. I share the very method that I use to sharpen this tool and I have used it on all of my high-end furniture projects with great success. I use simple instruction and close-up shots to demonstrate sharpening and scraping technique. If you are looking for a simple method to sharpen the cabinet scraper, this is the video for you.
